I noticed this as one of my forum writers sent links to our forum. The problem includes PDF links that are shown as 0 KB and don’t work. (At least this is how they show on my forum.) Some links to the PDF’s simply don’t work (i.e. don’t onebox) at all. The links to the PDF files are taken from here. But the Onebox links don’t work, see below:

Hi there,

i had to move my discourse instance to a new machin after a quite bad crash.
I attempted to just copy the files over without importing the previous backup.
(mainly shared/standalone left, i rebuilded the docker stuff after issues)

Well it worked quite nice, everything looks in place and is functional exept the like feature.
The heart is missing on random posts. Sometimes in the initial post like here:

(it might be related to https://meta.discourse.org/t/how-to-re-enable-like-functionality-on-first-post-in-topic/63856)

But as well it happens on other kind of posts too:

Just in case my plugin list:

Maybe someone has an idea about this behavior.

Question about the ability to customize Discourse

Is it possible to add a column between Topic and Category that would allow you to put a sponsor in that area? Meaning if you go to the forum, you could sell local advertising for an area that might interest a particular company or person?

I just don’t know who customizable it is and hoped someone could let me know.

For example, check out this site snd how they have managed to pull it off:

Thank you for your insight.

Chatroom Integration Plugin (discourse-chat-integration)

discourse-chat-integration

I’ve been working on discourse-chat-integration as part of my Google Summer of Code project with Discourse. It aims to abstract away the generic ‘boilerplate’ needed for plugins such as discourse-slack-official. This will hopefully make it quicker and easier to build and maintain integrations with more chat providers.

The design is largely based on discourse-slack-official, and re-implements all of its functionality.

Notifications are setup in the admin panel. Each provider is given its own tab. Within each provider you can define a number of ‘channels’. These correspond different “chats” within telegram/slack/others. Each channel can have a set of rules for notifications. The rules can target categories, tags, or both.

discourse-chat-integration also provides a framework which allows providers to support “slash commands” with relative ease.

So far, the providers implemented are:

Slack

This works almost identically to the existing slack plugin. Rules can be managed from slack using “slash commands”, and notifications are “prettified” with an excerpt:

Telegram

The functionality of the telegram provider is the same as the slack provider. “Slash commands” are available, and messages are prettified (sadly not as pretty as slack due to API limitations). The key difference is that every “channel” must be explicitly added in the discourse admin interface - this is to prevent everyone on telegram having access to your forum (there’s no concept of “organisations” in telegram).

Third party providers

It will also be possible for third party plugins to register new “providers”. As an example, I’ve created a simple provider which sends webhooks to IFTTT. This could be used to automatically publish all posts in a category to facebook… or turn on your light when someone posts in #feature… or feed your fish whenever there’s a new #plugin.

To give some perspective, the IFTTT provider is implemented in just 34 lines of ruby and some language strings - pretty much everything is dealt with by discourse-chat-integration.

Providers to be investigated

(this is not a promise that they will actually be implemented)

  • Gitter (@jafeth.diazc is working on this, may eventually be merged into discourse-chat-integration)
  • Discord
  • HipChat
  • Mattermost

Currently open to suggestions about what to add/remove from this list.

Known issues / TODO

  • Prevent creation of duplicate channels
  • Allow sending notifications from group inboxes rather than categories… maybe?
  • #howto articles for setting up the various providers
  • EnterDoesn’t work to submit forms in the admin interface

Would love to hear people’s thoughts on the plugin, and any suggestions for improvements :slight_smile:

If anyone would like to have a play with it, sign up on my sandbox, drop me a message and I’ll admin-ify you.

Got mix-content error and confused

@Vencent wrote:

After enabling WP-Discourse plugin, I found comments from Discourse caused my WP site mix-content problem: All the avatars were loaded through HTTP instead of HTTPS.

I tried to fix it myself. And after reading the WP-discourse plugin code, I found the HTTP image URLs are stored in wp_postmeta with meta_key discourse_comments_raw. And this value is got from https://my.discourse.site/t/topic/20/wordpress.json

I found this JSON file responded with HTTP images URLs instead of HTTPS. But my whole Discourse site is transferred through HTTPS.(Though I noticed that it also sometimes get mix-content problem too)

The possible reason for this is that I used HTTP from the very beginning and later changed to HTTPS and some settings seems not changed…

Can anybody tell me how to fix this?

Hello,
Had a few plugins that utilized inlineRegexp and worked great until the switch to Markdown-it.

I’m completely lost with the new markdown-it… Any suggestion or example plugins that I might be able to look at?

My regex matcher was something like:

matcher: /^\[custom-tag1:([a-z]{2}\d{10})(?:\:([a-z0-9_-]+))?\]/i,

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We have pretty low thresholds for moving to Trust Level 1, but we are still getting frustrated feedback from users who are not yet able to create a topic but don’t realize until after they compose their post.

Is it possible to provide clearer indication to users who do not have appropriate permissions prior to starting a task? For example, if a user is not able to create a topic, the create topic button would be disabled and if they tried to access it they would get an optional trigger about trust levels and such.

Create a table on your Discourse forum

@Steven wrote:

Create a table on your Discourse forum

With the new markdown engine (since the version 1.9.0 b4), creating a table is really easy.

For this howto, we will use a table with three columns. You can create a table with as many columns as you want but keep in mind that the width of your post is limited, and a large table can be pretty ugly on mobile.

The base of a table is really simple, each | character will represent one column. Between two | you can add the content that you want. You need to start and finish each line of your table with the character |

First, you need to creater a header to your table. You will need two rows to do that :

  • the first one will define the title of each column.
  • the second one will create the separation with the rest of your table (and alignment, but we will see about that later)

Let’s begin :

| Col A | Col B | Col C |
|---|---|---|

Here is our base, three columns, and a title on each. The result of this code is this :

Col A Col B Col C

We now have our header, let’s create a row in our table, this is simple, it works exactly as the rest. Start and finish with | and keep track of the number of columns that you used :

| Col A | Col B | Col C|
|---|---|---|
| A1 | B1 | C1 |
Col A Col B Col C
A1 B1 C1

Do you know that emojis or markdown works in the table ? You can bold some text and add an emoji as you wish.

Let’s make our example better, I’ll add a new row with an emoji in one cell :

| Col A | Col B | Col C|
|---|---|---|
| A1 | B1 | C1 |
| A2 | B2 | :smile: |
Col A Col B Col C
A1 B1 C1
A2 B2 :smile:

You can leave an empty cell too if you want. You need to create the columns with | as always, just leave it empty. In our example, I’ll leave the B2 cell empty :

| Col A | Col B | Col C|
|---|---|---|
| A1 | B1 | C1 |
| A2 |  | :smile: |

The result :

Col A Col B Col C
A1 B1 C1
A2 :smile:

Alignment

Like I said before, the row between the head and the rest of your table can generate the alignment of your colum. In our first examples, the row looks like this : |---|---|---|.

On each column, the character : can indicate the alignment of your column. If you put a colon : on the left of the dashes, the alignment of the entire column will be on the left. If you put on the right of the dashes, the alignment will be on the right. If you put : on each sides, your column will be centered :

| Left | Center | Right |
|:---|:---:|---:|
| My content is on the left | I'm the center of the world | I like being on the right side |
Left Center Right
My content is on the left I’m the center of the world I like being on the right side

You know pretty much all there is to know about the tables on Discourse.

Customize your table (CSS)

You can customize your table by using the css customization. You can add borders between each cells, add a background color on the header, etc. The possibilities are huge.

I’ll give you an example with a simple modification : a background color on the head, and a darker border.

Here is the result I want :

And here is the CSS :

/* table */

.cooked table thead, .d-editor-preview table thead {
    border-bottom: 2px solid #bbb !important;
    background-color: #d3d3d3;
}

.cooked table tr, .d-editor-preview table tr {
    border-bottom: 1px solid #bbb;
}

I am in the process of setting up a new forum and already people have said they don’t like the digest emails. Now rather than turn them off I would like to change the frequency to 1 month or perhaps even 3 months.

Trouble is the setting maxes out at 2 weeks, is there a way of making this longer?

Thanks

Recently updated my copy of discourse and noticed this weird little bug in the console that also prevents the preview window from loading.

[blocked] The page at https://domain.com/t/topic/4512/484 was not allowed to run insecure content from http://domain.com/assets/markdown-it-bundle-d1f9395746d57602322789f6d8cdbfcb43f414005bb7a41e18cb6fdbeede9796.js.

Only get this error when accessing the site via https. Accessing the site via regular http eliminates the problem and the preview loads as usual.

Did I miss a recent change somewhere in the setting that I need to adjust so that that particular asset gets loaded over https when connecting via https? All other assets seem to be loading correctly.
