Mentioning @trust_level_0

I just sent a message on my system mentioning a sub-group (@foo), as well as @trust_level_0. Another group (@bar) is set to “watch first post” on that category.

What I thought would happen: everyone in my system would get the message.

What actually happened: only the members of @foo, @bar and those who have enabled “mailing list mode” received the message.

Here are the settings of the trust_level_0 group:

Any ideas?

I’d like to get this message out ASAP to everyone, not sure how to approach this now :slight_smile:

Hi all, I’m not sure if there is a setting I need to enable or what, but I don’t think I have found it yet.

My colleagues would like their reply to be directly under the post they’re responding to. Is there a way to make that happen?

Thanks,

WordPress / Discourse API Strategy: Get Reply Count via API Efficiently

$

@Berto wrote:

Hi all,

I’m going to use a hybrid of WP-Discourse + Embedded Comments via JS on our blog.

I’d like to show the number of replies / comments each post has, at least within the single post (single.php), but don’t want to slam the Discourse API 10,000+ times per day or slow the blog down while it retrieves that.

Does anyone have any good strategies for getting and saving the reply_count so that we don’t hit the server too often, or slow the blog from loading too often?

Are there good methods of “caching” the reply_count in post_meta / custom fields, and only updating it if it’s requested and the cache date is X hours old?

Or perhaps a cron job that just goes through all posts and updates regularly without slowing down the site ever?

Any other ideas? This is more of a WordPress strategy than anything.

Thanks!!

Discourse with Redis Cluster mode

Hello,

I am trying to connect Discourse with Redis cache cluster. I have multiple nodes in my redis cluster. I get following error in log.

“CROSSSLOT Keys in request don’t hash to the same slot (Redis::CommandError)”

As per Redis guidelines:

When in cluster mode, Redis do not support multi-key operations where keys falls to the different key slots.
“Redis Cluster implements all the single key commands available in the non-distributed version of Redis. Commands performing complex multi-key operations like Set type unions or intersections are implemented as well as long as the keys all belong to the same node.”

I can see many of the redis operations in Discourse involves multi key operations. Find one such example as below. Does this mean that Discourse won’t be able to connect to redis in cluster mode? Are we limited to host Discourse with only one instance of redis in non cluster mode?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In every Discourse site’s manifest.json file, a list of icons are shown. For each icon, a “type” is provided which looks to be the icon’s mime type. Problem is, regardless of which format the icon actually is (ico, jpeg, svg), the provided type is image/png.

Big drop in Google traffic after migration

@Edan_Ben-Atar wrote:

In the past 90 days we’ve seen a steady decline in traffic Google is feeding us.

Before Discourse, our community lived in Vbulletin.
I’m afraid something is off with the transition.
A year ago, we saw an average of 200 clicks per day to the site, today that number officially reached zero.
I have a feeling the discourse slug c/c/279331 has a lot to do with it.
Of course, the huge amount of 301 errors that arouse from the transition didn’t help either.

While the community is big and thriving, this obviously has taken a toll on the community’s traction and presence.

our site is in Hebrew so it may not help too many to view it but for whatever it’s worth it’s sport enter .co.il - I prefer not to be crawled picked up by Google so just connect sport + enter + .co.il :slight_smile: sorry to be annoying with that.

Any ideas ?! Help !

Getting a Stripe Checkout button (, tags) rendering in a post (via plugin).. help required

@ChrisBeach wrote:

I’m currently working on the Discourse Stripe Donations plugin, forked from @rimian’s original work.

I’m close to getting a Stripe Checkout button displayed within a forum post, but something is preventing the Stripe HTML snippet (an inline script tag) from running.

Example here

As you can see, the button doesn’t render in the post. Yet the DOM contains HTML elements which should cause the button to be rendered :

You may notice a button in the top left corner of the page – when I enabled a customised header with the same Stripe HTML, it worked perfectly. So, that rules out problems with the Stripe HTML or the interaction with Stripe’s server.

Below I’ve listed some things I have tried. Any more suggestions would be much appreciated :+1:

Enabling CORS in app.yml:

env:
       DISCOURSE_ENABLE_CORS: true

Liberal CORS origins:

(I also tried a few different stripe https://… domains and sub domains in here without success)

Loads of different allowed iframes:

Let's Encrypt: Azure hostname issue

@CyberSathya wrote:

I’ve installed Discourse via Docker on a Ubuntu as mentioned in Set up Discourse in the cloud in under 30 minutes. The site works from localhost (ssh & port forward via putty). I’m trying to see if SSL is the reason I’m unable to access the site outside localhost via Virtual Machine’s Public IP Address or domain name (via ‘A’ records). So, here is what I’m trying to do to enable Let’s Encrypt.

cybersathya@Vaaithaaforum:/var/discourse$ sudo ./discourse-setup
Ports 80 and 443 are free for use
The configuration file containers/app.yml already exists!

LET’S ENCRYPT cannot work if their servers cannot access your host by name.
Unless you think you know why this naive check failed, DO NOT USE Let’s Encrypt.
(A typical reason for failure is an AWS server with an elastic IP.)

You should probably answer “n” at the next prompt and disable Let’s Encrypt.

Does this look right?

Recommendations for Integrating Into Site Header/Footer

$

@jonobacon wrote:

Hi Everyone,

A common need my clients have is to integrate Discourse into an existing website so it shares the look and feel. This typically involves having the header/footer share the design and functionality of the site it fits into and then some CSS tweaks to ensure the same CSS rules apply to Discourse.

A limitation here is that (as far as I know), Discourse can only use static HTML in the header, so if the general site header has a logged in / logged out state, this is not reflected on the Discourse header.

How do you recommend this is solved? Is there a way of integrating Discourse into a site more elegantly than simply using an IFRAME here?

Thanks in advance.

Go to the quoted post button URL link is incorrect

@schungx wrote:

URL link for quoted posts [Go to the quoted post] button is incorrect.

It also contains undefined if the quoted post is a solved post.

Try it on Meta:

The arrow URL is:

https://meta.discourse.org/t/go-to-the-quoted-post-button-url-link-is-incorrect/71978/1

Which is obviously not the quoted post, but the current post.

Now this:

has the URL:

https://meta.discourse.org/t/lets-encrypt-azure-hostname-issue/undefined/3

which is obviously incorrect.

Approving an already-existing user through API?

@Frank_Bailey wrote:

I have created 17500 users via the Discourse API and uploaded all user avatars with the help of some very nice people here on Meta Discourse. All these users are in a “pending” state, and I would like to approve these users in bulk via the API. However, I only see an API endpoint to “activate” a user. As all my users are already active (but not approved) my question is, can I approve the users via the API, or must approval be done manually by the screenfull in the admin backend of Discourse? 17500 users will be a lot to have to approve manually.

Thanks in advance!

Dismiss-button in Unread

@Lykke wrote:

I just read about the function of the dismiss-button in "Mark all read" button on all New and Unread topics:

We just moved forum platform from vBulletin to Discourse, and we moved all topics to the new platform. That means that I (and all other users) have a lovely number of unread topics. For me it’s 2674!

There’s two issues for me/us with the Dismiss-button:

  1. I’ll never get to the bottom of that list and find the button.
  2. I actually still want to track all of the posts in case someone write something new in them. I would just love a clean slate instead of a couple of thousand of unread posts.

Is there really no way around this other than me going through every single topic?
