Let’s say I want to move my Discourse site from one Amazon EC2 instance (e.g. t2.micro) to a larger instance (e.g. t2.medium), what is the correct procedure for this?
The only option I know about is:
- Backup the existing site
- Install Discourse on the new server
- Configure Discourse using temporary values
- Restore the backup
However, I’m thinking that the smart people at Discourse thought about this situation and there’s a way to restore a backup on a new installation without step 3.
Scouring the site, I wasn’t able to find a definitive answer.
I did look at Move your Discourse Instance to a Different Server, but the instructions seem to imply that a generic installation is already active on the target server and that you can log in and immediately perform a restore.

So I took over a new position at a company, and we had been using Discourse - then moved to AnswerHub () and I am probably going to move us back to Discourse.
I have used discourse before - but this install wasn’t really managed and no one knows what/how to access what’s currently running, and I need to get logged in and start Admin’ing it (it’s been set to Read Only).
I am trying to figure out where it’s being run on the box - I am not good with Docker but I have these instances:
$ sudo docker images
REPOSITORY TAG IMAGE ID CREATED VIRTUAL SIZE
local_discourse/app latest --------------- 11 months ago 2.366 GB
discourse/discourse 1.3.10 --------------- 11 months ago 1.539 GB
discourse/discourse 1.3.5 --------------- 18 months ago 1.501 GB
What’s the easiest way to get in here and get access to the Admin?
Edit: I was able to enter the docker image (app) so that’s a start

In my application I have created a little app on Heroku that sets a timer on topics for whoever is the owner when a customer replies to that topic. It works quite well.
The challenge I have however is I have to statically define the users API key which is not a good idea. I’ve tried looking at the username.json file, I’ve also looked through the API docs and the only thing close is generating a new API key which is going to be somewhat unrealistic to keep doing.
Is there any query or way that I can retrieve a users api key via the api? This would allow me to get the username of the owner and dynamically get their key to set the reminder. It is only because the timer api call doesn’t allow the passing of a username.

New features in 1.9.0.beta17
Full rebake of all old posts
There have been a number of significant changes to post formatting over the last few major releases, but those changes only affect new/edited posts. To ensure the improved formatting is applied to all posts a scheduled rebake of all posts will occur. This rebake is limited to 100 posts rebaked per 15 minutes to avoid unnecessary stress on your server.
User login/logout webhook
Webhooks are a great way to be alerted when something happens in Discourse. Previously a webhook could be triggered when a user is created, approved or updated. Webhooks will now also be send when a user logs in or out.
New post selection options
Sometimes site staff need to select a large number of posts in a topic to delete or move. In addition to the existing ‘select all’ option, staff can now also select ‘select +below’ and ‘select +all replies’ for a more fine-tuned selection.
New Translation Languages
We added Serbian as a new language option in Discourse. To help translate Discourse to your language, visit https://www.transifex.com/discourse. If your language is not yet supported, see How to add a new language.

Hello guys,
I‘m not sure, if this issue was solved before?
I have a lot of old posts / wiki articles using titles like …
#test
As you might know, a few versions earlier this year, someone changed the behavior how to interpret these titles. Currently, the output isn’t one of these shiny markdown titles with bold text …
Test
… instead, it‘s just …
#text
How can I automatically fix this issue for all old articles and add the missing space between the hashtags and title text?
It becomes very frustrating to do this manually.
Any clue? Thanks in advance!

Anyone else getting this problem? Gmail is truncating our digest emails because they are over 102kb (excluding images):
http://www.adestra.com/avoid-gmail-clipping-emails
I have digest other topics
set to 100 as our users often use the digest email as an update of what they’ve missed (one of the reasons why I think so many of them keep their digest subscriptions).
How is everyone dealing with this? I don’t think I have any of the older digest emails (which afaik I had also set to 100 topics) but I’d be interested in seeing how they faired.

I need to upgrade my local discourse to the latest version so I can restore a backup made from a live Discourse instance, import users from Ning, and then backup and restore to the live instance. However, as Sidekiq isn’t running isn’t checking for updates. I tried to go to /admin/upgrade manually but I get a “route doesn’t exist” screen. Is there any other way to force an upgrade without having Sidekiq running? I dont’ want to run Sidekiq as I don\t want my dev instance sending out real emails.
Thanks in advance!

My local Discourse and the live instance I’ve backed up are running the same version (1.9.0.beta17).
I upload a backup from the live installation to my local Discourse (which is a Vagrant development version), but the upload doesn’t appear in the list of backups, meaning I can’t restore the backup.
I was advised elsewhere on the forum that I should put a local installation in place, restore the live backup, add users using the Ning import script, then backup the changed local version and restore it to the live server.
If I can’t see the backup file (Discourse tells me the file was uploaded successfully) then it seems I’m stuck.
Anyone might have some idea where I could be going wrong? Thanks!
