Unsubscribe links on emails

I am using discourse as a mailing list and when a topic is created via email an email notification is sent to all the users. I also enabled the unsubscribe via email footer setting. When a user replies to the first message there are now two unsubscribe links in the message one for the original author and the other for the user.
So the user can now unsubscribe the original author from getting any updates if they chose to. I am not sure if anyone has experienced this issue or am I missing something?

In an effort to stop certain bad actors I’ve started to add blacklisted domain names in the settings:

The two that I added a few days ago link to one of the more well-used “burner” email sites, https://10minutemail.com

But, this morning, I saw the same user was able to register and post via the mvrht.net address that was blacklisted:

Seriously frustrating…!

Possible that it’s not working as intended?

Can a Theme have a quote display real name instead of username?

@pfaffman wrote:

Continuing the discussion from Display real name instead of username in a quote?:

When prioritize username in UX is unchecked, posts display the Real Name before the username, but quotes of those posts display the username and not the real name at all.

Is there some way to solve this with a theme, or is a plugin required? And, regardless which solution is preferable, a pointer to some similar example would be much appreciated.

I use the Post Number quite a bit, so wondering why this change was made. (and, can we change it back, :blush: )

Posting number was there yesterday, by the way.

Scrolling on Docs page is frustrating

@ThorinOaken1 wrote:

I think this might be just part of the design and not technically a bug, but I find it exceedingly frustrating and I would be shocked if others didn’t feel the same way.

The design has basically 3 columns the Index (left), the documentation (middle) and examples(right). If you expand a section in the index such as “Site Settings Security” and then scroll down (or up) the index past the bottom the documentation column begins to scroll. When the documentation begins to scroll and a topic moves to the top the index jumps back to highlight the new topic, moving the whole index section back to where you were. This makes navigation feel like an endless loop where you don’t seem to get any closer to where you are going. If possible the middle section should not scroll when the index reaches the end, or the jump to the topic in the index shouldn’t happen unless the mouse is currently in the documentation section.

I can do a screen capture video of this happening if it isn’t clear.

Thanks.

Probably not a priority but should be looked into.
This has been mentioned by @william04gamera and @JonnyGamer.

When you have a newline after a tag, text overlaps, like this:

line one
line two

Quote this to see what I did…

In addition, if there is no newline at the end, does not register in the editor:

small

still small large

Quote this, once again.

Sorry, I’m bad at explaining this.

How to link your community to the discourse app?

Hello Discourse Friends,

My client recently asked if there was an app for the community that we created using discourse. I noticed that a discourse app exists. Is there a way to have my client’s discourse instance operate via the discourse app for android and IOS? Or is this discourse app just for the meta.discourse.org community?

What are the benefits of the App? Will it allow my clients to get notified of conversations directly to their phone?

How do I go about these tasks?

Is it possible to verify both www and non-www version of my site using LetsEncrypt (using ./discourse-setup file)?

@nixie wrote:

Hi,

I ran ./discourse-setup and enabled LetsEncrypt SSL for non-www version of my site.
When accessing the non-www version of my site using HTTPS, everything is good.

But when accessing the www version of my site using HTTPS, it throws as an error stating the connection is not secure.

(yes, redirection from www to non-www is already in place. But I get this error even before that happens. If I ignore the error, it redirects me to the non-www version and everything is good.)

So my question:
Is it possible to verify both www and non-www versions of my site using ./discourse-setup ?

Discourse + Wordpress or GhostCMS?

@KyleTryon wrote:

Hello everyone,

I have installed Discourse as a forum and I do like it so far. I was comparing it against NodeBB. I am familiar with Node, so I was very interested in NodeBB, but it seems under-developed in comparison to Discourse.

My end result needs to be a blog and a community forum that is highly integrated. I want the comment engine from the blog to be from the forum and the forum to show blog posts. It looks like no matter what combination I was to choose, it would be possible.

I like the idea of using NodeBB / GhostCMS because I should be able to develop for them, but they both seem to be lacking in stability and maturity.

I think Discourse looks good and is much more mature as a product. I don’t love how the categorization is exactly, I wish that was a little more traditional but still good.

Discobot is also interesting, and you all seem to develop plugins like crazy for discourse.

How do you all feel about the blog choices? Speed, SEO, and integration are my key focal points. I want my website to act as a unified app.

Evaluating Google's Perspective API on your Discourse forum

@ChrisBeach wrote:

Continuing the discussion from Discourse Etiquette: take actions when users intend to post inappropriate remark:

Google’s Perspective API is an experimental machine learning project, trained by moderation data from New York Times.

It’s designed to analyse online comments and highlight anything toxic.

I built an app that loads all posts from a Discourse forum backup and processes them using the Perspective API (instructions in README.md):

The results are stored in a DB for analysis.

When run on my forum, the “most toxic posters” list corresponded well with members our moderators are keeping an eye on. Aside from “toxicity” the measures of “inflammatory”, “attack on author”, “attack on commenter” were also reasonably accurate - at least enough to highlight the most problematic behaviour on the forum.

There were one or two anomalies. For example, one of our “most toxic” members turned out to be a wonderfully kind chap who was one of our forum’s earliest joiners and freely donated money to help with our running costs. Why so toxic? It turns out that he signs off posts with his nickname, “Dick,” and as far as the Perspective API is concerned, that’s rather uncivil. :slight_smile:

Please give my app a try on your forum and let me know how you get on. I’d be grateful for any PRs and/or feedback on the code as I’m new to Postgres, Akka-HTTP, Doobie, Docker and Spray-JSON. Cheers!

Url wildcard match in PluginAPI

@lll wrote:

How can I use a wildcard for url pattern matching onPageChange?

I’m trying to fire a script on all category pages and here’s what I have

api.onPageChange(url => {
	if (url === "/" || url === "/latest" || url === "/top") {
		foo();
	}
});

This works well and fires as expected. However, I would like to add category pages as well but don’t want to specify a category url.

Something like this

url === "/c/*"

to match any category page.

So how can I fix this:

api.onPageChange(url => {
	if (url === "/" || url === "/latest" || url === "/top" || url === "/c/*" ) {
		foo();
	}
});

:sweat_smile:

Help needed in creating plugin to redirects user to pass reCAPTCHA v2

@AnnaNaumova416 wrote:

Hello everyone.

I am a dummy to discourse(although have a little experience with javascript and Ruby on Rails…)

I was thinking to verify a user using reCAPTCHA v2 from google.

The idea is when the user visits the certain number of pages then needs to pass reCAPTCHA v2.

If he doesn’t pass this then can’t visit anything from that time.

And that the certain number of visited pages need to be input through the plugin forms.

Please excuse my pitty topic… I am new to the community. Sorry.

And very thanks to any kind of response or suggestion from you.

Regards. Anna.

Email problem after upgrade

@rayk wrote:

We’ve encountered a problem after running the latest discourse upgrade. We’re getting the following notice on our admin panel:

Some problems have been found with your installation of Discourse:

*** There are 71 email jobs that failed. Check your app.yml and ensure that the mail server settings are correct. [See the failed jobs in Sidekiq].**

There have been no recent changes to the app.yml file. We rebooted the server that our discourse resides and issued the command ./launcher rebuild app. This did not resolve the problem.

This is the error we’re seeing in Sidekiq:

Jobs::HandledExceptionWrapper: Wrapped Net::SMTPAuthenticationError: 535 5.7.0 Mailgun is not loving your login or password

We’ve contacted mailgun with the credentials we have set in our app.yml file. With the credentials provided, they were able to test authentication via telnet with success. They also stated the following:

Can’t say for certain but my theory would be the app.yml file might have some type restriction or permissions required to access. Failure to access the file could possibly lead to authentication not being passed to the SMTP client so when tries the SMTP Mailgun, no SMTP credentials are presented then you received 535 5.7.0 Mailgun is not loving your login or password.

The permissions on the app.yml file are set to -rw-r–r--

Please let me know if there are any steps we should try. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
