Send moderated post back to author for review

@ggurbet wrote:

Hey there! Is it possible to implement a feature that allows moderators to send a post back to its author for review?
For example, when in a moderated forum, if a user creates a post and that post has some minor inappropriate things and either deleting it is too much of a measure or making an edit before approval might cause the post to lose its original meaning thus the moderators are not willing to edit it.
Also it could be that moderators can highlight the problematic bit of the post before sending back for review so the author would be more aware of the needed correction.
This is especially useful for large forums that are run by or focused to businesses, enterprises and/or government subjects that needs a formal language to be present but sometimes a few inappropriate behavior are shot as words here and there inside posts.

List available reports

Is there an API endpoint that can be called to get a list of all the reports? I’m currently manually going through the admin page and pulling the report names from each link, but was hoping for something I could use programatically.

Questions Regarding Account Authentication Methods

@jd2066 wrote:

Edit (3 hours after written) - Rewrote my post to clear up confusion after a reply made me realize it was confusing as written.

It is my understanding that Discourse primarily uses a standard username and password setup where users register with a username and password to create an account.

It is also possible to create an account that still has a username but instead of a password, it uses a third party service for authentication of the account.

It seems this can be via well known services like Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. and custom single sign-on setups for a site with an existing authentication structure.

I have a few questions related to this behavior:
1. Can an account’s authentication method be changed after it’s created?
Just from looking at the account page for a user, it appears the answer is no.
Which leads me to wonder if so what happens if the user deletes their account on the authentication service to the Discourse account.
Like the user creates a Discourse account that uses authentication via Twitter and later deletes their Twitter account.
Does this mean the user can no longer log in to there Discourse account?
In a situation where the authentication method is a password, it can be reset, I have no idea what happens if the authentication method no longer works.
2. If a user uses another authentication method, can they be automatically logged in upon visiting the Discourse site?
I’m mainly curious in regards to using a custom sign-on setup but I would also be interested to know if this could be done with one like Facebook.

"User Visits" definition

@Raphael_Haase_NL wrote:

What does “User Visits” mean exactly?
If I go to the Discourse site, browse a bit, close the tab and come back an hour later in a new browser tab/window, while I am still the same person, same browser, will this count as 2 user visits or just 1?
What if I do the same, but my second visit is from a different device with the same user account?
What about users who are not logged in and only read? Do they count as user visits too?

What is trust level, how to assign one to use (like an admin one)? and why titles have to be at least 15 chars? How to change it?

How to turn off these yellow and blue labels that appears while you’re editing post?

Trouble resolving system-auto-flagged posts / silenced user

@bts wrote:

This morning I found a few messages in our moderator inbox related to posts that were auto-flagged by “system” as spam, due to:

“This new user tried to create multiple posts with links to the same domain (www.youtube.com). See the newuser_spam_host_threshold site setting.”

I went the the posts in question and clicked “ignore flag” — but the posts were still hidden so I can’t tell if “ignore flag” actually had any effect. I tried manually unhiding the topics (“make listed”). I also realized the user was also auto-silenced, so I unsilenced him…but nope, his posts still seem to be hidden. (All his posts, not just auto-flagged ones!)

See:

And:

I’d suggest that in this case there should be a more straightforward way to reverse an auto-spam action like this for which there may be false positives. Ideally one-click that would both unsilence the user and restore all their posts to normal. Rather than, in this case, having to take action in several different places (each flagged post to unhide, plus the user profile to unsilence). Still not sure if there’s a bug here or if I missed some additional action I need to take here.

TL;DR currently nothing in our list of active flags, and I’ve unsilenced the user — but all his posts are still hidden. I can’t figure out how to resolve this.

Is it intentional that you can mark whispers as solutions?

@paulkreuzer wrote:

I just marked a whisper as the “solution” of the Playground topic in our forum.

Now people who can’t usually see whispers see it quoted in the first post.

Maybe that is intentional as theoretically the solution to a certain topic could be found in a whispered post, but in that case I think it would be better to have the option to un-hide that post and only then be able to mark it as a solution.

Inconsistent site settings after saving from Admin dashboard on page refreshes

@Mark.Wahl wrote:

Hi,

I am currently facing a very strange issue where after navigating to the Admin dashboard > Settings, and making any changes to the available fields and saving, Upon refreshing the page, the site settings is loaded but not with the changes i just made. If i refresh a couple times, the updated setting shows in some cases and in other cases the previous setting is showed. It appears to be some sort of per process session cache in the container.

This issue is however resolved whenever i restart the container. That is after making any changes, if i restart the container and navigate to the settings page, it is guaranteed i will always see the updated settings. Of course this is unusable since i cannot restart my container every time i make a change.

Thanks,
Mark

GCODE highlighting is not included by default

@filip wrote:

Hi,

Trouble

.gcode highlighting is confused, even though gcode is a supported language in highlight.js.

A simple test

auto language selection (maybe some sort of C? )

M117 Heating Up ; write heating up
M190 S30 ; heat up the bed to 30°C and hold

ruby specified (yay. this is to show that forced language selection does something)

M117 Heating Up ; write heating up
M190 S30 ; heat up the bed to 30°C and hold

gcode specified (nay, it looks like the auto-select, and it ain’t right.)

M117 Heating Up ; write heating up
M190 S30 ; heat up the bed to 30°C and hold

thus

Is there some test I can do to see whether this is on Discourse side or Highlight.js side?
(And then, what would that mean…)

Edit DiscoBot "Greetings" msg + Customize Onboarding

@David_Kwan wrote:

I was wondering if it’s possible to edit this initial discobot greetings message. I like the links included but would like to tweak the wording to match my community:

Also, I am interested in customizing the on-boarding process for new users. For example, I’d love to include a checklist for them to complete with customized steps on how to get started. I’d also like to perhaps edit the design of the home page shown below or add a cover page that is slightly less overwhelming. A few users have told me that it can be a little much at first:

Lastly, I’d love to see/hear about examples of what others have done to improve the on-boarding of new users and convey the purpose of their specific community. I am not as concerned about teaching them how to use the actual features of Discourse (the discobot is doing a great job of that), but more so teaching them how they can use our community for it’s specific purpose (sharing educator resources and becoming certified in our program).

Mark posts as solved in an importer

0

@pfaffman wrote:

I’m working on an importer for answerhub and need to mark posts as solved. A couple other importers do something like this:

            if topic["answer"] == '[accepted]'
              post.custom_fields['is_accepted_answer'] = true
            end

And then later call this:

  def mark_topics_as_solved
    puts "", "Marking topics as solved..."

    PostAction.exec_sql <<-SQL
      INSERT INTO topic_custom_fields (name, value, topic_id, created_at, updated_at)
      SELECT 'accepted_answer_post_id', pcf.post_id, p.topic_id, p.created_at, p.created_at
        FROM post_custom_fields pcf
        JOIN posts p ON p.id = pcf.post_id
       WHERE pcf.name = 'is_accepted_answer'
    SQL
  end

When I do that, the posts don’t show up as solved, but if I try to mark a post as solved, I get a 500 error (presumably because it’s trying to mark a solved post as solved).

Is there something that I need to do to get rails to notice that the table has been updated?

My other solution is to just do this as a post_create_action

            if topic["answer"] == '[accepted]'
              post.custom_fields['is_accepted_answer'] = true
              the_topic = Topic.find(parent)
              the_topic.custom_fields['accepted_answer_post_id'] = post.id
              the_topic.save
            end

Visibility of Discourse features?

@Biscuit wrote:

How does someone without Admin rights (eg: a moderator) get visibility of the Discourse features / functionality available?

I’m making strategic forum recommendations, but they would be strengthened if I had a greater understanding of available Discourse functionality. I haven’t seen a manual and the Discourse demo site doesn’t seem to provide admin level rights. How can I review the available functionality to determine which features could be useful / relevant?

Can anyone install discourse for me?

@ckhawand wrote:

So… I recently got a VPS (hostinger VPS plan 6), well, a powerful one let’s say, here are its specs:

|CPU Cores|8|
|Total CPU Speed|19.2Ghz|
|Memory|8Gb|
|Disk Space|160Gb|
|Bandwidth|8000Gb|

Alright, so I have no experience in VPSs, tried many tutorials online, that told me I have Apache already installed.
I’m using Ubuntu 16.04, and I could provide with SSH details, if anyone can install it for me :slight_smile:
The discourse would be live here: http://forum.cksoftwares.com
