No "Light scheme" colour scheme?

Our default theme is based on the “Light Scheme” colour scheme. It seems to be working, but:

While viewing admin > customise > theme, I can see “Light Scheme” in the drop down list.

However, there’s no “Light Scheme” listed under admin > customise > colors.

Is this because the Light Scheme is the system default, so it’s not listed on the colors page?

I’m unsure if this is normal.

Would this be possible to do?

"Moderation History" not showing the moderation history

I set a topic timer to automatically close a topic tomorrow. Later, I noticed someone else must have turned that topic timer off.

I checked the “Moderation history” on the topic and referenced the logs, but neither mentioned the topic timer being turned off. The moderation history for that topic says “There is no moderation history”

If “Moderation History” doesn’t show the “Moderation History” then i’m unclear what that option is for? Does it need to be extended to capture moderation actions?

Are there any ways I can merge these tags and can have the main tag and others as synonyms as mentioned in the following article?

Does discourse provide it?

Tools to "aggregate" many Discourse forums?

@downey wrote:

  • The good news: Discourse is popular, perhaps the fastest-growing forum software out there.
  • The bad news: I now have a ton of Discourse forums that I need to keep tabs on, on a most-daily basis.

Does anyone else struggle with this information management challenge?

  1. At one point there was a working Chrome extension called “Discourse Forum Notifications” that helped (a little bit), but it was last updated 13 months ago, and doesn’t seem to work any more.

  2. And the “official” Android app allows multiple forums, I think, but that doesn’t really help me with quickly understanding what kind of “roll up” of new/important stuff (and/or notifications) I should be paying attention to, either.

Are there any other tools out there to help with a high-level view of multiple Discourse forums? Has anyone been thinking about creating one?

@yogeshbeniwal wrote:

Hi all,

I am trying to restore backup downloaded from a standalone setup to separate web/data container setup. Steps followed are:

  1. Create data only container
  2. Create web only data container, with all plugins listed as from standalone setup
  3. Start both data and web container
  4. Enter web container: ./launcher enter web_only
  5. Enable restore: discourse enable_restore
  6. Restore: discourse restore FILENAME.tar.gz

But unfortunately even after server restart, its showing register page only. Forum data is not restored.

Badges Move Around When Installing New Version

@David_Kwan wrote:

When I first started using Discourse, I created many manual badges, renamed the default groups, created new groups, and placed the badges in the various groups. I then placed many of the default badges that come with Discourse (Ex:Aficiando") into a default group, “Trust Levels” (which I later renamed).

Anyways, what I am noticing is that every time I update Discourse, many of the default badges I placed into that one group get returned to other groups.

Any tips?

I noticed that the “Un-Categorized” category appeared in my homepage navigation after updating to the latest version of Discourse last night. Is there a reason for this? While I was able to suppress it from the homepage before, I can no longer find the option and am not sure if it was taken away. Any support would be appreciated.

Grouping multiple Email Addresses for weekly PMs to the same group

Is there a way to group people for easy PMing of multiple players?

Specific example:
I need to send a weekly PM to specific players (about 30) within a certain private group in discourse. Is there a way to group them, so that I don’t need to individually invite each one, each week? Is there a way to put those 30 into a “saved” email group list?

I cannot simply post the contents of the PM to public post, because this is specific discussion that others within the group should not have access to.

Thanks.

Sort by closed status?

@wolftune wrote:

We don’t want to unlist closed topics generally — they should be discoverable and people may want to review them… But we often close topics that have been effectively concluded.

I want visitors to have their attention drawn to topics that are not closed, even if the most recent comments from today were on topics that were then closed following those comments. Last week’s topic that is still open should be at the top of the sorting list over newer things that are closed.

Is there any way at all to sort this way? Show closed topics but put them below the open ones? Or hide them from the overview lists, requiring an action to show them again? Something like this?

Ideally, we’d like this to be default.

Basically: it stinks to have a visitor come and see most of the topics in the Latest list are all closed. It stinks to leave topics that should be closed open just to avoid that. What we want is people to focus on the non-closed topics!

Hide posts by tag (filter *out* not just filter *to*)

$

@wolftune wrote:

I don’t know why this still isn’t obvious and standard in all places that use tags. Tags shouldn’t be only filter-to but also filter-out. Say there’s a tag for “beginner” okay fine, easy for beginners to see just that stuff. What about others deciding to hide all the beginner items? That’s much more sensible than requiring some anti-tag to be put on every single item other than those you want to hide.

There’s countless highly valuable use cases. Please: can this be made possible?

Upgrading common password prevention - Pwned Passwords v2

@riking wrote:

Troy Hunt has released Pwned Passwords v2 has part of his Have I Been Pwned service, which tracks data breaches: Have I been pwned? Pwned Passwords

The password checker uses a great privacy-preserving and cache-friendly design that’s dead simple to integrate. Blog post here: Troy Hunt: I Wanna Go Fast: Why Searching Through 500M Pwned Passwords Is So Quick but I’ll post a quick summary:

$ echo -n 'commonpassword' | shasum
bee858a53297f2feec01e084c3e110c296a7fd72  -
$ curl -sL https://api.pwnedpasswords.com/range/BEE85 | grep '8A53297F'
8A53297F2FEEC01E084C3E110C296A7FD72:91

therefore, ‘commonpassword’ has appeared 91 times in processed password dumps.

This offers great support to query a very large dataset without having to have a copy on every single Discourse site. As prior art, WordFence (a WordPress firewall plugin) has integrated it to block admin logins with weak passwords starting today (password resets are enforced on login):

Integrating this as an alternative to the 10k password list (many of which are moot due to length limits) seems like a good idea.

Discourse-hosted sites could use a local copy of the hash lists to avoid excess network requests, while self-installs would need to use the web service with custom caching.

Question: 17 hours ago, posting comments to our SaaS Discourse instance started throwing errors. We were able to correct the problem by switching to HTTPS. Did something change? Did I miss an announcement?

Or did I touch something unknowingly that caused us to change over to HTTPS only? I can’t find a mechanism in my admin panels to make this kind of change.

Please advise…
