Adding extra 'opts' data to the "DiscourseEvent.on(:post_created)" event from javascript?

I’ve been looking through the github repository and on the forums as well, but I’ve not been able to find what I’m looking for yet. Apologies if this has already been answered before.

I’m trying to add some extra data (just 1 custom value is all i need) to a post right before/when it’s created. I need to do this from a javascript asset, and I need to be able to access it in the plugin.rb file using:

DiscourseEvent.on(:post_created) do |post, opts, user|

If this isn’t possible or not easy to do from a javascript asset then being able to append text just before post creation to the :raw post would also work for what I need.

I’m only just starting to create my first plugins so I’m still trying to figure out how to use events/existing functions.

Thanks in advance if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Deactivate notifications for link and share badges

Hey everybody,

In the settings I already disabled notifications for likes. It seems that there is no such feature for share badges and link badges. I’m quite active in my community and sometimes I get a bunch of “Nice Share” badges, which aren’t very relevant to me (any more).

What are the chance that such a feature is introduced (disable notifications for certain badges)?

Best, Stefan

PS.: If this feature exists and I simply didn’t find it, please move this topic to #support. :slight_smile:

Limit the amount of topics per user in a specific category

Similar feature requested here: Limit one post per person? though slightly different.

I’d like to see a feature or a plugin that allows you to set a limit on the amount of topics a user can create in a specific category. I need this to limit users to only allow 1 topic in a specific advertisement category, forcing them to edit their existing topics if they want to have a new advertisement.

If possible, it’d be great to have trust-level (or staff status) based exceptions and/or “reset” the restriction when the original topic gets locked, allowing users to create a new topic.

Wordpress front-end form to Discourse

@Lonsdaleite wrote:

Hello,

I my forum, i want to create a recruitment form on Wordpress (because it’s the front page, and i don’t find form add-on on discourse), so i use the WP User Frontend add on to generate a WP post which will be creating on Discourse.
Problem: the discourse doesn’t synchronize the layout and it creates a dough like this (in french) :

The WP User Frontend add doesn’t generate a text post, but a filled form in meta box below the text editor, so perhaps the meta box could be the problem ?
Someone uses a frontend form (free if possibly) to post on discourse ?

Thank for you help

Different theme or CSS for different categories

@Kanana wrote:

Hi,

I’m wondering if it’s possible to display a different theme for each category I have in the forum? I didn’t find answer in the forum.

I noticed that in the body tag the category name is displayed, but, when you go in a subcategory, the subcategory name is added their. So if you have 10 subcategory you need to put the 10 in the css and it’s not great. If the moderator adds a subcategory, you need to add it also in the css.

I also noticed that when you go to an article in the subcategory, the url looses the category name so there is nothing to help.

Any suggestion/idea would be appreciated :wink:

Logout without clicking the user menu?

@tophee wrote:

Is there any way I can logout without touching the user menu?

The reason for this strange question is simply that when I impersonate a user, I try not to touch their user menu if it has any new notifications. But it looks like I need to in order to log out. Or is there a way?

Maybe just delete the session cookie? But how do I find that one?

Add new coffee icon (same role as the love icon)

@Francois_Douville wrote:

Hello,

Is it possible to add a new icon next to love icon.

The role of this new icon is to make a contribution to the experts of my forum. In my forum, I have members that pay a monthly membership and I have experts. Each month, I want that a certain percentage of the membership go to the experts. Some experts will be more helpful to members. So if an expert have 55 coffee, we will receive more money that an expert who were present 1 time and received 3 coffee.

So, I want a new icon button but also that the counter starts at zero again each month. Is it possible?

Also, the coffee icon would be only on a post by experts who are in the expert group.

Thanks for your time!

I am wanting to turn on email digests for any user to our forum that hasn’t logged in since, say Jan 1. I know there is a way to override a setting but want to override it only for certain users.

I know this is the syntax:

User.update_all(mailing_list_mode: true)

but I don’t want mailing list mode, I want digest and can’t seem to find the specific setting

How to clarify the function of the topic reply button?

$

@tophee wrote:

I’m sure this is happening to all of us: you reply to a topic and someone replies to your reply but you don’t get notified. The reason for this is that people don’t actually reply to your post but press the shiny blue reply button right below it, i.e. the topic reply button.

This happens here on meta and on many other discourse forums. So I’m wondering how the UI could be tweaked here to avoid these mistakes and the first thing that comes to mind is of course to add text to the topic reply button but that is both ugly and unlikely to help because the people making this mistake probably don’t understand the difference between reply-to-post and reply-to-topic in the first place so putting something like “reply to topic” on the button won’t change anything.

So the next idea is perhaps to tone down the topic reply button, to basically make it the same colour as the buttons next to it. Or will people then not find it anymore?

Searching for users on mobile

Just tried to search for a user from mobile and realised that while the mobile search says this:

That’s fine if the user has posted, but in this case the user in question hasn’t posted something in an area which my account has access. The result is no search results.

IIRC search on desktop returns both user objects and posts, can we get the same on the mobile interface?

However it doesn’t seem to do anything, I’ve even tried just selecting one item but it still has no effect. (Same thing happens with ‘Change Tags’ as well…hmmm, just checked ‘change category’ and that doesn’t work either).

Not sure if this is a bug affecting everyone or just me, so have put in #support for now.

It worked earlier, then it was updated and I believe it stopped working then?
It definitely worked earlier as I created groups and did some stuff with it.

The reply as one survey entry

Hello,

say, my runners’ group wants to log their calories and race track times in one topic over time, in a structure form everytime they post a reply;

in general, how difficult would it be, to write a plugin that allows for:

  • topic as survey over time
  • replies per topic as time-dependent survey entries
  • strict set of fields in addition to the reply box

Thanks in advance.

Theme Creator, create and show themes without installing Discourse!

$

@sam wrote:

A few months ago I raised the idea of an Easy Theme Creator!

The idea was to have a place where anyone can hack on themes without installing Discourse!

Since the plan was set in motion @David_Taylor has been super busy making all the lego pieces fall into place.

The result is https://theme-creator.discourse.org/ , logging in is SUPER easy, just hit the login button and you will be logged in via meta.

Once logged in you will see this giant button:

When you click it you will arrive at your “theme authoring” interface:

The interface has full parity with the admin interface, including live CSS refresh, what more you can use the theme CLI: Discourse Theme CLI (console app to help you build themes)

All members of the @theme_authors group have the special ability to share themes! So, for example you can check out my simple theme at: https://theme-creator.discourse.org/theme/sam/simple (even anonymous can check out my theme!)

We looking forward to getting some feedback here, if any of you theme authors feel like sprucing up the theme-creator site, let me know and link me to your proposed theme!

If you have any themes or theme components please feel free to link your #theme topics to the preview so people can check it out!

Please try this out and report back!

Again extra huge thank you to @David_Taylor for making this happen!

Check out: https://theme-creator.discourse.org/
