Discourse local dates need better presentation in emails

@sam wrote:

The Discourse local time displays wonderful dates in the web UI. However in emails it can be very very confusing.

For example: May 19, 2018 1:03 AM (Europe: Paris), May 18, 2018 4:03 PM (America: Los Angeles) will display as May 19, 2018 9:03 AM in an emails which leaves recipients very confused.

I propose a multi step approach to improving this.

  • Immediate change… just display time zone with the time in emails so we would have May 19, 2018 9:03 AM Australia/Sydney

  • Longer term change, start storing local time zone in the user profile table (detect via JS and hand to server with a header). Then in emails we can send the times in the “last know local timezone”

  • Longer Longer term, allow users to control preferred timezone in user profile (automatic vs manually set to something)

Spam with from address set to reply by email address

@ryantm wrote:

Our “reply by email address” is “forum-replies+%{reply_key}@example.com”. Recently, we’ve started receiving spam with the from address set to "forum-replies@example.com". When this happens, Discourse is sends a “Rejection Mail” to its own “reply by email address” (well, without the reply key part of course). After this, Discourse rejects the “Rejection Mail”, but thankfully the new “Rejection Mail” is sent to the “notification email”, which is what I’d guess Discourse uses as the From address for rejection mails.

Is there a way to turn off rejection emails for messages that do not match the format of the “reply by email address”?

Redirecting back to WordPress after signing in with Discourse SSo

@Brad_Bock wrote:

I am helping someone to use their WordPress website set up as an SSO client to their Discourse forum with the WP-Discourse plugin. They would like to make the website accessible only to logged-in users.

I tried using the Restricted Site Access plugin to achieve this. I set it up so that it shows a page with the URL auto-generated by the WP-Discourse login shortcode; it seems however that the access plugin is restricting you from redirecting to the Discourse login page.

Is there a better way to do this? A different plugin for restricting access perhaps? The goal is to have un-authenticated users land on a page that describes the site and links to the Discourse SSO page where they can either create an account or sign in. After this, they should be redirected back to the site homepage (which will now be visible because they’re logged in).

Any help is greatly appreciated! cc @supermathie @Simon_Cossar

I think a new way to enhance profiles is the current view streak(How many days in a row you visited) so you can keep track of who’s active and who’s not and the user can see how many days until the view streak badges!

A standard calendar drop-down should do the trick here, no? I don’t know why we refrain from asking for birth year, but I guess it’s often unnecessary.

I’d like to change the notification email in the admin settings, but each time I change it it automatically switches back to the email address I had before, which is also my “contact email” address…I do have SPF and DKIM records for the domain I’m using.

Anyone any ideas how I can fix this problem?

I’ve installed discourse on AWS using a Bitnami Discourse AMI.

Notification levels (Watching, etc.) - All descriptions incorrect for Private Messages

@jerry0 wrote:

The four different editable notification descriptions for private messages in Discourse have the following names

  1. js.topic.notifications.watching_pm.description
  2. js.topic.notifications.tracking_pm.description
  3. js.topic.notifications.regular_pm.description
  4. js.topic.notifications.muted_pm.description

However the private message /t/ page is picking up the “normal” (category) topic descriptions which are:

  1. js.topic.notifications.watching.description
  2. js.topic.notifications.tracking.description
  3. js.topic.notifications.regular.description
  4. js.topic.notifications.muted.description

Easy to miss this, but it does lead to very confusing descriptions for users of private message notification settings, which are really important.

Could this please be fixed as soon as possible?

Thanks!

How To Fix / Remove All Facebook Logins For Updated AppID

Due to recent fb changes, I created a new app for my forum facebook login (one that didn’t include unnecessary permissions as I had setup before).

Upon adding this and trying to login I get:

Detailed information about the error was logged, and an automatic notification generated. We’ll take a look at it.

No further action is necessary. However, if the error condition persists, you can provide additional detail, including steps to reproduce the error, by posting a discussion topic in the site’s feedback category.

Looking into the logs it seems it is trying to set a duplicate key for facebook login credentials.

ActiveRecord::RecordNotUnique (PG::UniqueViolation: ERROR: duplicate key value violates unique constraint “index_facebook_user_infos_on_user_id” …

How can I clear all of those out and get going with the new app id?

And this is maybe? a bug? - shouldn’t it overwrite this by default - like if a user changed their facebook name - or is this just an app id issue?

Docker Manager - remote commit hash should diff vs the installed version

Just had a bit of a brainwave regarding the Docker Manager.

At present, when you see an update in the Docker Manager, you have the option of clicking on the commit hash of the new version:

I would expect this to compare against the version currently installed, however, it seems to compare against tests-passed. What this means is that when you click on it, you see this:

I’m sure you can agree that this isn’t particularly helpful. What I would propose instead is that clicking on the new commit hash should compare vs the installed version.

One of my users is unable to log in. He’s getting the error “You can’t log in as username from that IP address” (where username is his actual username). I’ve whitelisted 148.64.0.0/21, which should match his public IP. It’s 148.64.2.45, according to google. Here’s my Screened IPs config:

Any ideas why this person is being blocked? What else can I do to troubleshoot this?

S3 is configured properly, new post images are uploaded to S3.

Yet if I go to Admin -> Customize -> Themes -> Import, the Uploads attached to the theme get stored in the local uploads folder (not in S3).

However, if you use Admin -> Customize -> Themes -> Uploads and choose Add to manually add new Uploads, the upload will be submitted to S3.

Feature suggestion - invite staged user to a message or topic

I have a handful of staged users who got deleted (don’t ask) and now am seeking to bring them back. I created them originally by addressing new PMs to them, and thought I could bring them back by inviting them to their message again.

As it turns out, this is not possible now - the invite to message modal only allows entering usernames, not email addresses. I could imagine the ability to invite staged users to a message or topic being a very handy feature to add.

The Apps section in the User Preferences displays when an access has been approved.

I suggest collecting and displaying information about when each access was last used, ideally per granted permission. (This data could also be used to automatically revoke unused accesses after some time.)
