Hi.
Is there any tutorial how to create a plugin with this coverage or can you help me?

  1. I need to add a custom field for the user and the input field in
    registration and profile settings.
  2. New table for assigning Kickstarter badges to users and assign them
    after registration.
  3. And of course layout changes with background and menu.

Thank you.

Blank pages since 0.9.9.7 on any browser

Dr Emixam wrote:

Hi,

Since I upgraded to 0.9.9.7 today on my discourse installation, it only displays blank pages.

As my server hosts many websites alongside discourse, I set it up with the old method but before today, everything was working well.

I tried to understand what is happening with web inspecter but all I got was this error in the console :

Uncaught Error: <Ember._MetamorphView:ember1252> Handlebars error: Could not find property 'customHTML' on object <Discourse.DiscoveryController:ember1488>.

I'm not very familiar with how discourse is built and I don't know ruby so my capacity of self-resolving the problem is very limited. I can provide any needed information.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Selecting post urls in android web browser is kicking my &#*

Tobias Eigen wrote:

This morning I tried using my android phone to copy and paste a discourse URL from chrome into an email I was composing, and the UX did not let me. This must be a bug in android but I haven't had this problem on other websites. Here's what I am trying to do:

  1. log into my discourse and look at a topic
  2. select the chain link to copy the direct URL for the post
  3. the URL is already selected and here I should be able to copy the URL to the clipboard

I get stuck on #3. There is no option to copy to clipboard. I then try to select the URL to pull up the selection options and they do appear briefly across the top of the screen. Immediately though they are covered by another menu that does not go away and so I can't do anything. I then select the URL again but then the selection goes away and I have to try to select it again but can't see the whole URL.

Anyway, you get the point. I got stuck and had to wait until I was at a computer to get the URL. There is probably some trick I am missing but it should be easier! frowning

A related question: is there an easy way to infer a short URL from the address bar, similar to the /raw/nnn format? e.g. /t/nnn? Did not work when I tried it.

Edit: I just asked this last question elsewhere where it fits better:

Email troubles - I'm stumped

Hey all,

I'm trying to install a Discourse forum on a Ubuntu virtual machine at GreenQloud. I have a self-hosted mail server that I'm using.

I followed the Docker install instructions, everything's peachy. However when trying to register an admin account, the confirmation emails never get sent.

ubuntu@i-a29f7bfe:/var/docker$ tail shared/standalone/log/rails/production.log

The smtp settings are good (they work in Diaspora*, I can send email from Thunderbird), and the ./launcher mailtest app command reports success:

My guess is that the solution is similar to what was done here, but my Rails is too rusty and the line notes on that commit too ominous for me to attempt a fix/PR.

Can I provide any more information?

It was all good.

I will wait to re-install discourse (maybe after the 1.0 release), but only after I fully debrief myself for the worst case discourse install/update scenarios.

Disclaimer - Actually, I love Discourse...You guys have revolutionized an 'old and busted' application and turned it into 'sparkles and skittles'.

I am running it on Ubuntu 13.10, with rvm instead of rbenv without vagrant. Running rails s seems to work fine, specs show several fails considering something about absolute urls and avatars. I used rails console to make my accaunt admin.

This is borderline bug/feature request, but would greatly help teaching people about the draft system.

New "Banner Topic" pin type

$

Jeff Atwood wrote:

One thing we've noticed is Discourse sites putting welcome banners up, like this:

Technically this site welcome function is covered by the pinned welcome topic

But clearly we need something a bit more.. obvious.. for new users, as this is a recurring user-created design element on multiple Discourse sites. We also noted in a random usability test that a new arriving user indeed never found or read the pinned topic, at all. warning

http://peek.usertesting.com/result/613760977075?autoplay=true

We proposing adding a new type of topic "pin" called banner, like so:

This does the following

  • in general this is similar to "pinned topic" but even more prominent. There can only ever be one banner topic at any given time. If you make one topic a banner, the previous banner is un-bannered automatically.

  • when a topic is bannered, we insert the standard "this topic is now a banner.." staff message in the stream. (and when removed) very similar to the way pinned topics behave.

  • the current banner topic inserts the latest revision of the first post content into a dismissable banner at the top of all pages, with some exceptions (user pages? 404 page? but definitely topics and topic lists)

  • anonymous users can dismiss the banner by clicking the traditional big negative_squared_cross_mark in the right hand corner. This will be saved in local storage.

  • logged in users can dismiss the banner in the same way, except their preference is stored permanently in their user profile.

  • the banner key should be unique so dismissing the current banner does not necessarily dismiss a future banner. This should be held by topic id -- edits to the topic first post will not make the banner re-appear.

  • we provide a "read more" link at the bottom of the banner topic that drives users to the banner topic if they want to discuss it further.

You can see the key elements here in an example from superuser.com as an anonymous user:

  • banner content (from first post)
  • dismiss button at upper right
  • "read more" button at bottom left
