White screen while trying to view private topic

Arpit Jalan wrote:

I am getting a white screen while trying to view a topic in private sub-category. Steps to repro:

  1. Create a private category Computer with permission:
    • example group can Create/Reply/See
  2. Create a public sub category Keyboard under the category Computer with permisson:
    • everyone can Create/Reply/See

Now when you will post a topic under that private sub-category Keyboard, everybody will be able to see the topic on /latest page, but will get white screen when trying to view that topic.

I am able to view that topic just fine while logged in as Admin, but getting error while trying to view as Moderator or Anonymous user.

Error in console: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property '__ember_meta__' of undefined

Manage pseudo renaming correctly

Camille Roux wrote:

Apparently, renaming a pseudo breaks all the previous mentions. Is it possible to update all the previous links?

Some ideas:

  • Find all the previous mentions and replace them (can be time consuming)
  • Save the unique ID instead of the pseudo in the post

No way to remove title

Matt Jones wrote:

In the discourse profile options, once you've selected a title, there's no way to remove it.

I've only got 1 title available to me as you can see from this image

and when I click the dropdown there's no other option.

What I'd like to see is a "none selected" option or something to that effect, or even another button that says "Clear title".

Any plans for admin/user docs with 1.0 release?

Michael Downey wrote:

So there's currently some great documentation for Discourse:

  • Relatively thorough installation guides on GitHub
  • Some rudimentary troubleshooting tips on GitHub
  • Developer guides on GitHub
  • HOWTO category here on meta
  • A massive slew of knowledge in the various categories on meta, that is maybe-searchable but that would have to be gleaned out.

The last item is what I'm thinking about. Is there any plan to synthesize some of the concepts and basics of Discourse into a general admin guide that ships with the software as part of the V1 release? For example, such documentation might include:

  • Explanations of roles (moderator vs. admin), levels, and badges
  • How things like categories, sub-categories, and uncategorized are designed to be used
  • How pins work
  • The ideas behind flagging and what happens when different options are chosen
  • General guidance on UI customization
  • Differences between new & unread, and the various colors & types of count badges
  • Differences between and explanations of starred, watched, tracked, muted, etc.
  • Other stuff that I surely can't think off at the moment

Discourse is great software and I'd hate for people to be held back from implementing it because they can't quickly/easily understand how it's designed to work. Do others agree/disagree?

Update counts on main topic list after returning from a new link

Rikki Tooley wrote:

Action

  1. https://meta.discourse.org/latest
  2. Open a topic link in a new tab
  3. Read topic
  4. Close tab, return to main list

Ideal

  1. Read counts are updated on return

Actual

  1. Read counts aren't updated

I know the counts are updated occasionally already, could this be extended to support the above scenario?

Read Faq: 0 (by the way, shouldn't that be FAQ, not Faq?)
First Quote: 42.

I'm fairly certain those numbers should be larger than they are.

Went to our guidelines link from the hamburger menu (which redirects to http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/tdwtf-forum-faq/370), went to http://what.thedailywtf.com/faq (which redirects to http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/tdwtf-forum-faq/370)

Re-ran Jobs::BadgeGrant, and Read Faq is still 0.

LDAP - I have no idea what I'm doing and could use some guidance

Derek wrote:

Okay - I have extremely limited knowledge of web stuff. I want to use Discourse to replace an existing mailing list - having LDAP logins working would make it a home run.

The trouble is that with my limited knowledge of all of the technologies involved (I am much more comfortable with embedded systems than web) I don't even know how to start. I know that Discourse includes omniauth functionality, I know that there's an LDAP plugin (module? script? what's the right word?) for omniauth. What I can't figure out is how to glue all these things together to make something work. A lot of the results from my extended googling are old or not terribly edifying to someone with my level of knowledge.

Can anyone point me at a good 'ground up' resource for understanding what goes into this? Even a rough, high-level overview of the process would help (I can't even figure out how to do things to Discourse because it's in a Docker container?). I feel pretty helpless and don't know what I should be reading to get less helpless.

Does upgrading Discourse via command line preserve user data? How?

Andrew Meyer wrote:

I'm assuming the answer to this is going to be yes, but I'll ask anyway. Does upgrading Discourse via the command line preserve user data? The reason I ask is because these commands seem rather destructive to me:

Create a new base image by running:

  • ./launcher destroy my_image
  • ./launcher bootstrap my_image
  • ./launcher start my_image

From the Upgrading Discourse section in the discourse_docker README.

To me, that looks very similar to destroying a VM image and rebuilding it from scratch (à la Vagrant). Is user data preserved by this upgrade process? If so, how? (I know a little bit about how Docker works, but not much.)

I think this started when I upgraded to 9.9.12. Here's an example onebox:

In the preview the thumbnail looks ok, but after I publish the is CSS overwritten:

aside.onebox .onebox-body img {
max-height: 80%;
max-width: 25%;
height: auto;
float: left;
margin-right: 10px;
}

.topic-body img:not(.avatar), .topic-body svg {
max-width: 100% !important;
height: auto !important;
