Feature Proposal: editor scroll smart sync | edit preview. Making edited area visible in the preview

I can see Line 1 in the preview but i am already in editing Line 2, but line 2 is not visible in the preview making the live preview less intuitive.

it appears with current implementation the scrolling on the edit and the preview are in scroll sync, but this is only usful when the edit and the preview have similar scrolling height and not for cases when we have an image for example. making live preview less a live

Tooltip to display parent category

Manthan Mallikarjun wrote:

What I have noticed is that when your post in a subcategory, all you can see is the subcategory name. For example, I have a category called marketplace and a subcategory called reputation. When you post in reputation, the category badge shows up like this.

One thing I would like to see is a tooltip (e.x. Bootstrap Tooltips) where when you hover over the badge, a tooltip pops up saying marketplace => reputation.

This would make Discourse a little more user friendly.

Let me know what you think!

EDIT: @Lid proposed an even better idea!

Please check his video demonstrating it below!

I am using the web_only template on the docker installation.

EDIT: I rebuilt the app, and its still there.

Official color plugin not working

Charles-Pierre Astolfi wrote:

Steps to reproduce

Expected behavior

[color=red]foo[/color]should be rendered with the word foo in red.

Actual behavior

The word foo is rendered in black (but the bbcode color tags are actually stripped).

Here's what I have on my install; as you can see, the div/span block is cooked, but the style attributes are nowhere to be seen.

Comment

There must have been some breaking changes to the plugin API, but I couldn't find anything suspicious using git log.

Category drop down behaviour when there is only a single category

elsdoerfer wrote:

I only have a single category. In fact, I disabled many category UI elements via CSS.

But when creating a new topic, the user still has to select the one category that exists before being allowed to post.

Yes, I disabled "uncategorized", because I wanted to be better prepared for adding new categories later.

Even if uncategorized where used, I believe the dropdown should disappear if there is no meaningful choice to be made by the user.

Generating Disposable Invite Tokens

Arpit Jalan wrote:

So you want to generate Disposable Invite Tokens? Great! Let's get started!

Install Discourse API Gem

If you already have Ruby installed on your system, you can install Discourse API by running following command from console:

gem install discourse_api

Generate Master API Key

Generate Master API Key for your Discourse instance by visiting /admin/api, to interact with Discourse API.

Generate Disposable Invite Tokens

Now that you have installed Discourse API gem and generated master API key, let's start generating disposable invites!

Open the discourse_api/examples/disposable_invite_tokens.rb file, and modify following information:

  • Provide API credentials:

client = DiscourseApi::Client.new("http://localhost:3000")
client.api_key = "YOUR_API_KEY"
client.api_username = "YOUR_USERNAME"

Replace http://localhost:3000 with the url of your discourse instance, eg: http://discourse.example.com

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with the master API key of your discourse instance, eg: b1f3175cb682b3e9b6ca419db77772120b19af993cbc14ebed80fea08e3bbd66

Replace YOUR_USERNAME with the Admin username of your discourse instance, eg: codinghorror

  • Provide Disposable Invites details:

invite_tokens = client.disposable_tokens(username: "eviltrout", quantity: 200 , group_names: "security,support")

Replace eviltrout with the username of person whose account you want to be attached with generated invites.

Replace 200 with the quantity of tokens you want to generate.

The group_names parameter is optional. If you want invited users to be automatically added to specific group(s), specify the group names separated with comma. eg: security, support

Now in console, from discourse_api directory run:

ruby examples/disposable_invite_tokens.rb

This command will generate a invite_tokens.csv file inside discourse_api/examples/ folder.

Open the invite_tokens.csv file and voilà it will have 100 disposable invite tokens ready to be used instantly!

Prepare Invitation URL from Invite Token

The Invitation URL will be like:

http://discourse.example.com/invites/redeem/TOKEN?username=USERNAME&email=EMAIL&name=NAME

Replace following fields:

  • discourse.example.com with the URL of your Discourse instance.
  • TOKEN with one of the 200 Disposable tokens you just generated.
  • EMAIL with the email of user you want to invite
  • USERNAME with the desired username of invited user
  • NAME with the first name of invited user

Visit Invitation URL

When the user will visit Invitation URL, he will be registered, activated and logged in instantly. If you specified the groups while generating tokens, he will be automatically added to that particular group(s) when logged in.

That's it! Start generating Disposable Invite Tokens for your Discourse instance today!

Wordpress and Discourse domain issue

Daniel Poon wrote:

I use Digital Ocean and Ubuntu 14 to try to run Wordpress and Discourse together. I was successful in doing so using the steps:

  1. Install LAMP, change apache port to 8080
  2. Install discourse following the basic tutorial steps in DigitalOcean

So now I have one domain for Discourse: community.mydomain.com and I can access wordpress via my domain.com:8080.

However, what I really want is to have Wordpress blog to be pointed as mydomain.com

I have tried doing iptable redirect but while it did the trick of redirecting, it's really trying to open a Wordpress URL in Discourse e.g. mydomain.com?p=1 (i.e. Hello world wordpress page pointed to first post ?p=1). So this doesn't work.

I would appreciate if there's any pointers I can get Wordpress and Discourse to run as:

Blog: mydomain.com
Discourse: community.mydomain.com

Thanks.

Regarding highlighting and Color Scheme

Torrelles wrote:

Continuing the discussion from How to change the "highlight" color:

Hey there. I searched for a bit, and it might be a misconcenption of mine or an error on Discourse's Color Scheming.

Firstly, a question: under the Color Scheme there's an option for "highlighted", as seen on the following screenshot:

Does it refer to the very same paramenters we're changing with the CSS code from the quote? If so, it did not work on my forum instance (http://forums.restormteam.com). Only using the code provided by @neil was I able to get it to work.

Something I felt I needed to bring up.

Anyone else can confirm this? Thanks.

Should GitHub authentication send activation email?

I am getting reports like the following from some new users:

I've been trying to sign in through Github and have nothing but issues. I've authorized the community to access information from my github account and then when I go back to sign in, it tells me "Your account is awaiting activation, use the forgot password link to issue another activation email." I've never received an activation email, nor do I see a forgot password link anywhere on the site.

First, should someone authenticating thru GitHub ever need a separate activation email?
