User Customization selection

Had a quick search, but couldn't find anything similar. Surprisingly. Feel free to move/merge

Been playing around with Site customization, with (effectively) real-time suggestions etc from some of my users by providing them with the UUID preview-style parameter. Ended up with a half-reasonable dark-theme for the forum.

Naturally, some of them liked the effects, others observing the topic in real-time and not really participating hated it and preferred the current (largely default) light theme.

Fair enough. I hand out the UUID and those that want the dark-theme can at least access it, even if in a clunky manner.

Is there anything in the pipeline to offer users one of a selection of the CSS/HTML customisations available from which to choose, rather than forcing everyone to use the same one (absent the preview-style parameter mentioned above.)

Basically I'm after something akin (in purpose) to vBulletin's user 'Forum Skin' selection:

How can I apply a badge to group of users?

John Mardlin wrote:

I'm trying to incentivize the engagement of some of our most valuable community members, who are beta testers for our product.

To do so, I've created a Beta group, and created a hidden topic for to discuss the beta product.

I would also like to grant all of these users a publicly visible Beta badge, so that they can have some credibility, feel appreciated, etc.

  1. Is it possible to apply a badge to an entire group?

  2. At the moment, I'm actually not sure the best way to add a badge to a user, aside from going right into ../admin/users/user_name/badges, is there a better way?

Don't skip to unread replies for wiki posts

Joseph Lormand wrote:

This might sound like a small problem, but I'm actually having to lock all of my wiki posts and even delete the automated message saying that the topic is closed (which is a derived problem), because it seems if there are ANY replies, loading the page for the second+ time simply skips to the bottom. I understand the logic in this as most people want to see the latest unread replies in a typical discussion, but I postulate that a wiki topic should not be considered a typical discussion. If a topic post is set as a wiki it should have priority, regardless of recent replies. Is there something I've missed to change this? If not I propose it as a feature some time in the future.

Thanks for reading.

Activation (and other) forum mails going into spam

Jason Ives wrote:

I've been trying to run a discourse forum for a few weeks now and have been having an issue: emails sent to gmail addresses (85% of my current membership) are getting thrown in to the spam folder. I've tried telling members to check their spam and consider adding forum@domain to their contacts but it seems that many haven't done this beyond activating their account from within the spam folder...

I first attempted to use Mandrill, as recommended, but thought that maybe Mandrill's default of including an image and tracking links was hurting me -- so I disabled those, no problem. Still in spam. Just switched to Amazon SES thinking that might work better ... still in spam. With both Mandrill and SES I set up SPF and DKIM records which appear to check out -- help!

Here's an activation mail (with headers) that was thrown into gmail's spam:

Can badges be awarded by an external site?

I'm currently configuring my Discourse instance (loving it by the way - great job guys!) to go with my site. I've gotten SSO going successfully, and am now in the process of setting up the badge system. I'd like to award badges for actions completed on the site, with Discourse acting as a sort of hub for profiles and discussion.

I know there are APIs for things like topics, search etc but wasn't sure how I'd go about this. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction!

A few different issues on iPhone

Brad Huber wrote:

Our users have noticed a few issues that seem prevalent across most of them using iPhones (a variety of 4, 4s, and 5)

One issue is that sometimes when going to the Latest tab (/categories is our default), it doesnt actually show the most recent posts. They might be posts from a few hours ago, when there are several more recent. I noticed this myself when I went into a specific category and made a topic, then went back to the homepage, and went to the specific category from the "all categories" dropdown. The new topic I had created wasnt there. I waited a good 3 minutes to see if the message bus would pick it up. Going back to /latest or /categories, then back into this category never makes it show up. I have to do a refresh on the page. This issue I think only happens when on 3G or 4G. I havent seen it when connected to WiFi

A second issue us that we're noticing about 1/3rd of the time, image uploads will never go past 0%. When this happens (and also sometimes if you hit "Cancel" on the upload), it doesnt actually remove the "uploading 0%, Cancel" text, even if you abandon the reply, and try to reply somewhere else on the site. It seems like it just has to time out on its own at some point. This has happened when on 3G, 4G and WiFi.

Is any one else having issues on iPhones with image uploads freezing at 0% and page data not being current?

for the moment i have something like this:

i try to install myself:
1st try on this vps i could not bootstrap it (a weird error with the docker) ..
2nd try i gave a try on another vps on 3 gb ram (same error .. and i followed all the steps)
3rd try i tried the the bitnami one "click" installer ... i`ve succeeded but with 12 gb ram ... the load was aweful.

I tried on ubuntu 12/14 lts, centos .. and so on.
I tried to find a video tutorial but the install changes so fast.

So who can help me install it? or recomend me a dev that could help with for a fee.

My skype is sym.group or pm me here.

Topic view scroll up on transitioning out ( back button )

$

lid wrote:

To reproduce
1. go to a category
2. go into a topic
3.scroll down all the way
4. click the back button

Result
if your eyes are quick enough or your computer is slow enough, you may notice that before the view changes
the topic view will get scrolled up before the view change back to topics list.

if you don't see it you can try repeating the steps with different topics.

I have first noticed this on android/chrome, where there it is more noticeable.I can also see it on the desktop.

Expected behavior

This behavior might seem harmless, but it will cause an additional render/paint in the browser and it does not seem to serve any functional purpose.
for slow devices that is an extra render
This extra action / change of state may also confuse the user.

Flag requirements are not looking at disposition

Continuing the discussion from Feature Request: Banned Users Prevent Promotion:

 def num_flagged_posts
    PostAction.with_deleted.where(post_id: flagged_post_ids).where.not(user_id: @user.id).pluck(:post_id).uniq.count
  end

So, for example, if I go an flag 5 posts of a user I hate, regardless of flag disposition (mod can disagree), this user will not make it to leader for the next 100 days

This should be fixed.

Docker Manager and Dome9 Agent Issues

Jamie Lormand wrote:

While the Dome9 agent is running the Docker Manager never gets beyond the "Checking for new version..." stage. It just sits there. The Dome9 config doesn't currently block any outgoing ports, just incoming ones. With all of the incoming ports opened to all IP's it was still stuck. So, I turned the agent off completely and it worked just fine. As soon as the agent was back on it went back to being stuck.

Does anyone know what might be causing this. Do I need to explicitly set permissions on some port Docker Manager may be using or is this possibly a conflict between the two ?
Is there an error log that the Docker Manager writes to that I might be able to check to shed light on this ?

Is cgroup isolation for Discourse supported?

Jaryd Malbin wrote:

This might not be totally necessary but I'm wondering if I can limit how much physical memory the Discourse Docker container can utilize using LXC cgroups. I'm noticing a gradual memory leak on my server and am not 100% sure where it is at this point:

Pinning down the leak might be a bit easier if I can certifiably know that the Docker container is hard-limited by the kernel.

As a side note, the server is not currently live and has absolutely no traffic.
