Polish translation: English phrases instead unclear system messages?

Piotr Z Marek wrote:

Hello,

I would like to start using Discourse in Polish. Unfortunately translation is not yet complete. However, a lot of stuff is already translated and it's enough for me.

The problem is that untranslated parts of the text are displayed in a very strange way. Instead of the „Register” discourse displays „[pl_PL.sign_up]". And instead of „login” users see „[pl_PL.login.title]", etc.

The question is. Can Discourse display untranslated passages of text in English? This will allow me to use the Discourse before the translation is complete.

Why was subdirectory support removed?

Mike Hearn wrote:

I have an EV SSL certificate that is only valid for two domains (with and without www), not all subdomains. It'd be nice if I could run Discourse with this certificate but it'd require running as a subdirectory on the main site (www.example.com/forum). I saw that this feature used to exist but was removed. Why is that? Is it really so hard to support an arbitrary base URL?

I know I can buy a cheap non-EV cert for my subdomain, but it seems a shame that I have to spend more money when I already have a perfect servicable certificate.

Display of Top Monthly changes depending on how I get there

John Griogair Bell wrote:

When I click on the "Top" item in the Discourse menu on my install, I see This Month displayed without the initial column to star them (see the example in the attached image marked A). If I click to another view offered at the bottom of the list, such as This Year, I see the initial column (see the example in the attached image marked B). Further, if I then click back to the This Month view from the view offered at the bottom, I now see the initial column (see the example in the attached image marked C). Finally, on my iPad the Top Monthly view without the initial column becomes very cramped, appearing to not have the same padding or margin as the other views.

Issues with disabling digest emails

Colin wrote:

I want to fully disable digest emails for all users on my site (don't ask why... I realize this is really dumb but I have to do it.)

I went into settings - admin/site_settings/category/email - and set "default digest email frequency" to "never" ... but emails are still being sent to users.

Any ideas on what I need to do to make sure that these messages aren't sent?

iOS 7.1.2: Topics can't load without "Try Again"

I'm reopening this bug below*

Upon accessing meta.discourse.org I get "Sorry, we couldn't load that topic, possibly due to a connection problem".
Hitting on "Try Again" loads the content.
Unfortunately this is required for every Topic. The home page loads normally.

I confirmed this on meta.discourse.org just now using iOS 7.1.2 (iPad 2) with the current version of Mobile Safari and Chrome for iOS 36.0.1985.57, also on iOS 6 with Mobile Safari.

Remove location EXIF data from uploaded photos

Spencer wrote:

Hi guys,
Just found out the hard way that uploaded photos will retain any location (ie. GPS Lat/Lon) data stored in the image's EXIF (in fact, the whole EXIF is retained, including device, f-stop, white balance, ISO etc data). While I understand there'd be a bit of work involved in stripping any EXIF data out, the removal of at least the location data would be a privacy concern of many users (both current and potential), especially if it's expected they may be uploading from a mobile device (which they more than likely took said photo on) - while someone might feel comfortable having their home town in their profile, having the GPS coordinates of their house publicly available is likely another story.

Manual trigger to recalculate badges and trust level

Rahul Bansal wrote:

We have moved a very old bbPress forum to Discourse and loving every bit of new forum. smile

We have thousands of users and posts. And many users have contributed a lot in past 5 years. (old forum was almost 5 year old)

It will be good if discourse adds a small feature (may be rake task) to recalculate badges based on past contribution. It might benefit:

  1. Sites moving to discourse from old platform
  2. Changes to Trust Level settings may trigger recalculation.

I hope other discourse users will find this useful.

Thanks.

Encrypted Chat Plugin via pyCryptocat (Interest Inquiry)

N3tNinj4 wrote:

I'm developing/researching an encrypted PGP messaging system but I also wanted to mention and suggest some code I came across for encrypted/secure chat via Crypto.cat. It's actually a fork called pyCryptocat available as FOSS via GPLv3+ by the same people that make Backbox Linux. It's available on Github here:
https://github.com/raffaele-forte/pycryptocat

Is there support for an encrypted/secure chat plugin? If so I would be all for pursuing it but with some help if people are interested since I'm swamped with work at this point. It would be nice to see a full working version within a few months/early next year-ish (as far as time-frames go).

If you're interested and want to help by contributing code feel free to PM me here or via https://encrypt.to/n30 (Feel free to attach your PGP public key)

I would like to have a relatively sanitized life cycle for development as much as we can so please have a relatively secure system on a relatively secure network and anti-virus installed and a host and network based firewall enabled and configured properly (or at least something between you and the internet). You don't have to live in Fort-Knox but please have at least some security wherever you work. Let's keep our dev space clean/ish.

Regards.

Draft not going away when I completed it on another device

Can't find draft for a reply on another device

When I create a draft for a new topic and then switch to my iPhone it automatically appears on my screen like this:

But if I start a reply on my computer and then go to finish it on my iPhone nothing automatically appears for me to finish it. I tried clicking reply on my phone, but that just wanted to make a new reply not access my draft reply.

Maybe this is a feature and not a bug, but since it was working for a new topic I thought it would would for replies as well.

I was able to do this twice on try.discourse.org once from my computer to my phone and another time from my phone to my computer.

BUG: Something appears to be preventing post content from displaying. It is affecting every topic, seemingly at random. You can hit reply & then fullquote to see what they said, but can't see it in the actual post body itself.
EXPECTED: Forum that works.

No we are not faking blank posts with empty HTML chars. The div.cooked contents are completely empty. It is kind of getting in the way of normal discourse.

Seems like the whitespace from the HTML is being included in the paste.

Definitely a regression, I have only started seeing this in the last couple of days (though it could be I have only recently started to attempt to paste text from tables)

Explain ninja edit functionality and when notifications are sent

0

Tobias Eigen wrote:

I'd appreciate it if someone could explain how ninja edits actually work. My understanding is that if you create a post and save it, notifications will not be sent out immediately but rather will wait until the time specified in the settings has elapsed. This gives a bit of time to the author to review the post and make some ninja edits.

What I always wonder is what exactly happens and have mild heart palpitations when I realize I am not actually done and have to go back and make an edit. Does the notification sending pause while the ninja edit is being done, or do you still just have the time available from when the first edit was saved? Does this timer reset again when you save it a second time, and third time, and fourth time?

What else is affected by ninja edits? For example, is a ninja edit done before the timer elapses reflected in the edits done to the topic that can be compared and rolled back to?

Onebox embedded content not appearing in discussions embedded in blog

Tobias Eigen wrote:

This blog post has comments powered by a discourse topic. In my reply to the topic, I included a link to a youtube video. It is not appearing below the blog post in the comments, while it does show up in the accompanying discourse topic. I think this is a bug because I expect it to appear in both places. If onebox is not supported, at least it should display the URL to the embedded content.
