As a site owner, I wish there was a way to filter out private messages which are auto-generated by the system. When your PM history looks like this:

It's rather hard to find any past PM I sent manually.

The two most common message seem to be the Welcome to our forum message and the Post hidden due to community flagging.

It would be very useful if they could be split out in their own list.

Host run support for launcher

Sam Saffron wrote:

(advanced topic)

During our provisioning we have a need to run certain commands on the host.

Usually bootstrap runs all the commands inside the containers, however for our internal provisioning we often need to ensure the host has a certain structure.

To assist this I added host_run support to our container config file. Commands in host_run will be executed:

  1. Prior to bootstrap
  2. Prior to start

So for example

params:
   name: "Sam"
host_run:
   - "echo $name"
   - ls
   - boom

Will output

Host run: echo Sam
Sam

Host run: ls
bin cids containers image launcher	README.md samples scripts shared templates

Host run: boom
./launcher: line 179: boom: command not found

Note, if any command fails, execution of launcher will halt.

When moving posts to a new topic if the first post contains the in-reply-to field in the upper right corner, that can't be expanded. It should either be removed or show the post it refers to.

There appears to be malformed behaviour with lazyYT on my forum, though not sure if this issue is specific.

Amazon S3 images automatically download when viewed - any way to change this?

Ben H wrote:

Sorry if the topic title is undescriptive. So all the images on our forum are hosted on Amazon's S3 hosting service, as per this guide here: https://meta.discourse.org/t/setting-up-file-and-image-uploads-to-s3/7229

But whenever I try to link these images to other people for example, clicking the link causes them to automatically download the file, rather than viewing it inside the browser like it normally would. Is there any way to change this?

For example. http://kazamatsuri.s3.amazonaws.com/1202f57c5eb30286c68817018ad124f4950870749ed8.jpg Clicking this image automatically downloads it, instead of taking you to the image.

I've installed Discourse today (using the Docker image on Digital Ocean) and everything seems to be fine apart from pinning a topic and pinning a banner - how do you do it? I thought it should be in the wrench section of the topic toolbar but I can't see the option, it only list Wiki Post, am I missing something?

Spacing to between of menu icons & text doesn't use CSS

Michael Downey wrote:

Continuing the discussion from Spacing between icon and text:

This seems to have been a "real" space character ( ) added and not CSS padding/margin to the right of the icon element. As a result, it can break some CSS styling that underlines links on hover (e.g., for WCAG compliance).

Dealing with corporate proxy

Liam McArdle wrote:

I originally posted this issue in the "Troubleshooting email on a new Discourse install" (https://meta.discourse.org/t/troubleshooting-email-on-a-new-discourse-install/16326/20), as I originally encountered it when trying to create my first user. However upon further investigation, it looks like it is a wider issue related to how the corporate proxy URI is set in the environment variables.

Per this issue, https://meta.discourse.org/t/troubleshooting-email-on-a-new-discourse-install/16326/20, I had to modify containers/app.yml to add http_proxy: http://some-corporate-proxy-address.com:port-number. This got me over my initial issue with bootstrapping the app. Once bootstrapped, I was able to start the app and visit the webpage. Clicking "Sign Up" and entering my corporate email address however did NOT result in an email. troubleshooted that issue and verified that yes I am able to send mail from that server. However, I found that I was not able to run any rake tasks, i.e.:

./launcher enter app
rake admin:create

or even:
./launcher enter app
rake -T

all rake tasks give me the error:

URI::InvalidURIError: bad URI(is not URI?): http_proxy=http://address-to-my-proxy:80
/var/www/discourse/vendor/bundle/ruby/2.0.0/gems/omniauth-twitter-1.0.1/lib/omniauth/strategies/twitter.rb:11:in `<class:Twitter>'

Looking at the error, yes that is a bad URI, as it is adding the environment variable name before the actual URI address.

Any idea how to get around this issue?

Apparently it's possible now to have a longer name @watchmanmonitoring would work.

I went to consider changing it in our forum but decided not to find out what drama that would cause, however, there is no cancel button or text to be clicked on:

I'm suggesting one get added
