I'm just trying to set up a dev environment on my mac but even after following the beginners guide I can't get the majority of my tests to pass. The test suite is also taking forever, some tests just pause for ages. I haven't got to the end yet.
I literally have no idea what I'm missing here, have followed the guide to the letter, have everything installed etc.
What needs to be running locally for tests to pass?
I'm on Yosemite if this would make any difference??

Hello,
I want to end up having a list with tasks where every user can check if he already fulfilled the task.
Tasks can be added and removed by the moderators.
What is the best way of implementing such a feature, by using some kind of API to authenticate the users, or by writing a plugin for Discourse?
I should maybe also tell you that I am quite experienced with web development, but since now only used php for such things.
Any help is welcome, looking forward to your responses.
Cheers, Lukas

Generally when user titles are used they are important e.g. President

, Site Tech Support
etc.
But they don't seem to be listed on the users profile page nor the popup profile about the user.
Could this be added?

I have recently uploaded a backup (approximately 1GB in size) to the Backups page in discourse's Admin section. Once it had uploaded it, Discourse reported a success.
However, I am unable to see the backup listed. Is there a job that needs to run after the upload has completed for it to show up?

My discourse instamce automatically updated to version 1.1.0.beta6b. why it happened? Is it possible to deactivate this auto update. I can only see a setting called "ping dicourse hub for version check" in the admin panel. I thought it was just for pinging and letting me know about new version. I recently rebuild the discourse app to change the domain name, did the update happen then? --am confused--

Instead, if you move all the posts in a topic to another topic, we should just auto-delete the original. No point leaving the stub around for that case.
Bonus.
You should not be allowed to move post #1 unless you select EVERY post in the topic.

This response was negotiated for gzip content encoding, so the Vary header needs to contain Accept-Encoding, the request header used.

I'm the moderator of a forum that uses Discourse. I have been searching this site for a while to better understand the software and how to better help moderate the forum. I may not be using the correct search terms so if anyone could direct me to the appropriate threads that would be great.
The forum I moderate is a mental health forum and as such paranoia can sometimes be a concern regarding members posting from multiple accounts. I realize that the software tracks the same IP address being used within the same thread. Does it track the same IP address for multiple accounts? I have seen the software in action with respect to the first scenario however as time goes by I am noticing certain members posting from multiple accounts (on purpose). They use different email addresses but the IP is the same.
Ex: barbiegirl@hotmail.com IP XXXXX
barbiegirl@yahoo.com IP """""""""
Another system I am trying to understand is reputation. I know that how I respond to flags can affect not only the flagged member but the flagger as well. I don't know if this is true for all levels. Meaning if a level 3 flags and I disagree then the level 3 flagger loses reputation? I think. Please confirm. If a level 2 flags does the same thing happen?

I just broke my discourse instance, it appears, and I am stumped. I'd be grateful for any pointers.
I wrote a typo in my app.yml file when seeking to install @lightyear's promising checklist plugin (git pull git pull URL). Now for some reason when I try ./launcher rebuild app
I get the following.
root@discourse:/var/discourse# ./launcher rebuild app
-bash: ./launcher: Permission denied
Here's the result of the first attempt rebuilding before fixing the typo:
root@discourse:/var/discourse# ./launcher rebuild app

I am sorry if this has already been asked, but the search didn't yield any results.
My Discourse installation doesn't send digests to users which have registered, activated and are approved, but did never actually log in. How can I change that and have weekly digests sent to them?

I have a plugin using a custom template for the topic list. I'm trying to get the latest poster avatar. Using:
renderAvatar(this, {usernamePath: 'topic.last_poster_username', imageSize: 'medium'})
renders the correct users' avatar, but it always comes up as the default (letter) avatar and not the user uploaded avatar (in case the user has uploaded one).
How do I get it to render the user uploaded avatar?

Good morning! We had a report that a user searched for "go" and could not find anything. Or rather, that the search did not work.
Now, I'm used to forums with a 3 character minimum for search; but maybe not everyone is. I suspect that is what is going on here; however, as part of the bigger picture, I'd like to request some error reporting when the search is not going to function. Right now on these forums try searching for "go" - nothing at all happens. It'd be more user friendly if the search reported why that was (not) happening.
In fact, I'm only guessing at the "why" here. A UI element that does not respond in any way is a wee bit confusing.

I am having trouble changing the Max Image Size. I have made the change in the Discourse Settings and we are setup with a .yml file that updates NGINX automatically. When uploading the file the message says the correct file size limit, but won't allow files up to that size. I also changed the File Attachment size and had no problems with that change applying. Thanks for any help.

It would be awesome to allow users to set their notification preferences per category. Currently you receive new topics in all categories in your digest, unless you mute them. But if you enable mailing list mode, this changes to every post unless muted. Now people might want to not hear anything about category A, only receive new topics from category B, and follow every new post from category C.
Adding to this it should be possible to set these notifications to either instant or every X hours/days.
To crown it all the ability to preset this for new users would be amazing.
With this added featureset Discourse can match up with mailing lists and the barrier for those many people loving email would be small.
