Best way to combine/merge categories?
Thomas Wilson wrote:
I've just about finished migrating my old forum to discourse. The last thing I'd like to do is merge some of the categories as part of a cleanup exercise.
I've had a look around these forums and found this topic (and also this one), however neither solutions will scale to the number of topics I'm dealing with. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Discourse version earlier than backup version
dhyasama wrote:
Hello,
I had a brain cramp and tried the docker upgrade from 0.9.8.11, it failed and I seem to have dug myself into a hole.
I restored a Digital Ocean snapshot for 0.9.8.8 but the Discourse backup I have for 0.9.8.11 won't work. How do I upgrade from 0.9.8.8 to 0.9.8.11 so the Discourse backup for will work?
I suppose the general questions here is how to upgrade to a tagged version.
Thanks!

Need help with Dialect emitter
Mittineague wrote:
I've been working on a plugin that will replace custom bbCode-like tags with smilie images.
I've searched Google (though likely not with the term(s) I need to use)
I've dug around the Core files
I've analyzed existing pluginsI've tried a dozen variations of the syntax, but have as yet been unable to get an image tag with a src attribute.
I've noticed that some code has the attr names in quotes, some not.
And I don't understand why emoji would give an image an href instead of a src.Anyway, this is what I have the emitter returning now.
return ['img', {"class": "classic-sitepoint-smilies", "width": "20px", "height": "20px", "alt": "test smilie", "title": "not yet", "src": "../public/images/afro.gif"}];
And I get
<p>here -> <img class="classic-sitepoint-smilies" alt="test smilie" title="not yet" height="20px" width="20px"> <- here</p>
I don't mind the attribute order being different, but I really need to figure out how to get the src attribute into the img tag.

Email addresses no longer visible in admin pages
Mittineague wrote:
We recently upgraded our version, and when I went to the Admin pages for some routine moderating tasks I noticed that the
email addresses are missing!
These pages could benefit from further enhancement, but without moderators being able to see an even limited number of email addresses nor able to filter accounts by them, the ability to moderate for problem accounts is severely crippled.
Please give this fix high priority.

Drag and drop user profile image

On user profile we have two images :
- One for user card
- The other for user profile backgroundWhen I try to use an image for one (using a drag and drop) BOTH will be updated.

WYSIWYG editor as a replacement
Rahul Ramesh wrote:
Is it hard to implement a WYSIWYG editor in place of the current bbcode markdown post editor with live preview? I am really curious to know about this, I don't mean a overly crammed up editor, just a normal WYSIWYG with bold italics smilies and underline options, ya also image upload and URL, I think around the same number of buttons as the current one.

Faster loading time when back to list view
YCH wrote:
Back and forth between 'Latest' and specific topic view is my main usage pattern for Discourse and other forum like sites.
Topic recommendation on end of topic thread is quite useful. But I don't think there is superior advantage over simple back and forth method.
So I'm wondering possibility about very fast response(rendering) time like these sites.

Change "Preferences" button to "View Public Profile" on preferences page
TechnoBear wrote:
If I visit my profile - or another member's profile as a moderator - there is a "Preferences" button to take me to the "preferences" page.
After I edit the profile, there is no "View Public Profile" button to return me to the main profile page; instead, there is a redundant "Preferences" button.
It would make sense for this button to be a "View Public Profile" button (as on the Admin page).(And yes, I know I can return to the Profile using u or the back button; I just think it makes no sense to have a redundant button there.)

@ Pinging in parentheses doesn't auto-suggest
Clay Heaton wrote:
I frequently find that I want to
@
ping somebody following a particular comment, and that I want to do it in parenthesis. Example:
- Get a list of the prices (@clay)
The annoyance is that the
@
helper list does not pop up when the@
follows an opening parenthesis(@clay ...)
or other punctuation, such as a-
.While the ping works when the name is typed in, it's useful to have the helper popup list because I can see their full name and make sure I pick the right person.
I suspect it works this way so that people can enter email addresses without the helper list popping up?
Anyhow, if you have a list somewhere of minor annoyances, I think this belongs on it.

"Unconfirmed" members show in search results
cpradio wrote:
If a new member has not confirmed their e-mail address, they show as "greyed out" in the logs, and they have no profile page.
But they do show up in search results (for ordinary members as well as mods):
And if you click the link to the non-existent page for uncofnirmed, you get a blank page - no error message or anything - so it's unclear whether the page doesn't exist or simply hasn't loaded correctly. (I suspect that technically the page does exist - it just has no content. In which case some kind of interim message on it might be useful.)
(Using u to return from the blank page also doesn't work correctly; it loads the new URL in the address bar, but the page doesn't load without pressing F5. Affects Chromium and Firefox.)
Username stripped out and replaced with "unconfirmed".

Docker 1.2 and CentOS 6.5
jimmy wrote:
Hello. I wanted to test out Discourse on my local testing server (CentOS 6.5). Followed all the docs for the install but I'm having an issue with the Docker install. Basically, I can't get the needed version of Docker to install even after I added the extra repos. Seems that only 1.1.2 will install and not the 1.2 that is needed to run Discourse.
So, I'm at a roadblock setting it up. Any idea how I can get the 1.2 version on my testing server? I even tried to download the 1.2 rpm and that gave me an issue installing.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Activation emails contain example.com even after hostname change
Joe Doss wrote:
I am doing a non docker install, so I understand help is limited.
I didn't set my domain name correctly when I started everything up and after updating
env DISCOURSE_HOSTNAME='newhostname'
inconfig/discourse.config
I was able to rebuild any internal links away fromwww.example.com
with the following:RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec script/discourse remap www.example.com newhostname RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rake posts:rebake
this converted all links in posts to the correct address but new activation emails still contain www.example.com along with embeded images are calling www.example.com. Is there another rake command that I can run to update the domain for emails?

Mailbox polling - Discourse can log in, emails not picked up
James Milligan wrote:
Strange one, and I'm sure I've had this before but it seemed to fix itself before I had time to look into it.
So I've got Discourse up and running in Docker, and I've got a mail server running on the host which is working correctly. Emails come in (and go out from Discourse direct to Mandrill) and land in the right inbox. Discourse logs in just fine (logs prove this).
But the emails aren't picked up and processed by Discourse. This is the same for both replies and new posts.
Nothing in Discourse /logs, and like I said it authenticates absolutely fine. Any clues on where to look for further information like where it's failing?
