Reply by email link parsed improperly

In 1.1.0.beta8, I replied to an email notification (using Mail.app) and in my email client, it looked like this:

When that came through to the forum, it was parsed to look like this:

The text when I go to edit the post to correct the mistake looks like:

It's an alternative. The software this forum is build on, called Discourse (www.discourse.org<http://www.discourse.org>) is made for discussions.

Looks like the link parsing isn't working exactly as intended.

Crowd plugin, compile fails all the time, unable to install

Rad wrote:

I hope someone has seen this before, so let me explain. I have Discourse instance running in Docker container and everything seems to be OK, until I try to install Crowd auth. plugin from:
https://github.com/discourse/discourse-crowd
I have changed /var/discourse/containers/app.yml to include https://github.com/discourse/discourse-crowd git (excerpt from app.yml file below):

The docker manager plugin allows you to one-click upgrade Discouse

http://discourse.example.com/admin/docker

hooks:
after_code:
- exec:
cd: $home/plugins
cmd:
- mkdir -p plugins
- git clone https://github.com/discourse/docker_manager.git
- git clone https://github.com/discourse/discourse-crowd.git

In bold typeface is the line i have added and after I recompile the app, i get the following error:

FAILED

RuntimeError: cd /var/www/discourse && su discourse -c 'bundle exec rake db:migrate' failed with return #
Location of failure: /pups/lib/pups/exec_command.rb:105:in `spawn'
exec failed with the params {"cd"=>"$home", "hook"=>"web", "cmd"=>["gem update bundler", "chown -R discourse $home", "su discourse -c 'bundle install --deployment --verbose --without test --without development'", "su discourse -c 'bundle exec rake db:migrate'", "su discourse -c 'bundle exec rake assets:precompile'"]}

FAILED TO BOOTSTRAP

If I comment out the line, everything goes OK, but I seem to be unable to install the plugin which I so desperately need. What could be the issue? The documentation with the plugin is almost non existent. Since I have just copied/paste the plugin URL in app.yml file, I don't think it is syntax issue, or maybe there is another step that I am not aware of...
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Composing interface is hard to use on iOS 8

Ole Zorn wrote:

The composing interface appears to be somewhat broken on iOS 8. When I create a new topic, the editor first appears at the bottom of the screen, as it should – but when I focus on the title or body field, the keyboard appears briefly, then disappears, and the entire page scrolls to the bottom, causing a new batch of posts to be loaded etc.

After that, it's mostly usable, but still quite glitchy, especially when switching between the title and body fields or when using any of the editor toolbar buttons (the scroll position tends to jump around).

It seems to me that this is essentially a bug in Safari on iOS 8, as it doesn't happen on iOS 7. For some reason, it seems to "forget" the fixed position of the composer popup when the keyboard is shown... I think this has been brought up before (can't find it now), but since iOS 8 is no longer in beta, it would be great to at least have some sort of workaround. If it's not possible to fix the current interface, I'd be fine with having a simplified version on iOS, e.g. showing the post editor on a separate page.

I've tested this mostly on an iPad, but the behavior is very similar on an iPhone.

Yandex SMTP doesn't work

Hello,

I've got some problems with setting up Yandex SMTP. Yandex uses port 465 with SSL. But Discourse won't work with it. The mail testing app tells me that it doesn't support this "testing" port yet and the connection times out. Other software works fine with it. Is there any way to make it work?

Thanks,

Adding custom emoji/emoticons via a plugin

Robin Ward wrote:

One thing a few people have asked for is the ability to add custom emoji. While we haven't gotten around to making a nice UI for people to do it, those comfortable creating plugins can now tap into the emojis and add them easily.

Use the latest version of Discourse, then you just have to create a plugin that executes the following method to register a new emoji:

Discourse.Dialect.registerEmoji('trout', 'http://cdn.eviltrout.com/images/trout-square.jpg');

Here's a sample plugin that adds a :trout: emoji with the correct plugin.rb and setup:

Perhaps certain marked articles/categories (How-to) could get preferential treatment in linked categories. For example in the Support category, the most relevant How-tos could get a special pop-up like so:

For improved relevance hits, you could supplement the How-to article with a "common for these cases" questions similar to the ones you've frequently seen in Support already.

Emails in with already-used subject should append to that topic

Michael Downey wrote:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Ensure allow duplicate topic titles site setting is off (default).
  2. (Optional) Email in a new topic with subject **Foo bar baz* to the email address associated with either Discourse itself, or in this case, a specific category.
  3. Read notifications via email and/or replies on the web site.
  4. Later, add another post to the conversation by emailing the same address in step 2 with the same subject Foo bar baz (rather than by replying to a notification).

Expected behavior:

  • The email contents are appended to the existing topic as a new post (i.e., a reply to the original post in the topic).

Actual behavior:

  • The email is rejected with the "Title has already been used" error message.

Moderation Tips & Best Practices Guide?

Katherine wrote:

I'm wondering if anyone out there, from the Discourse team or anyone running their own instance, has taken the time to compile any form of Moderator Tips and Tricks, or best practices for moderators, using the features that have been designed.

Currently, we're trying to bring several new moderators on board in our community, and we are realizing that some type of guide would be really helpful to introduce them to both platform features for moderation as well as how to use those features to facilitate good discussion.

I would appreciate any moderator tips and tricks that people have learned and would love to collaborate on compiling some kind of short guide (if it doesn't already exist!) Is anyone else interested in helping with this??
