How can I force the https://www. version on my install (i.e. redirecting all non-https and non-www traffic)?
Afaik it can be done via vhosts, but where can I find it?

A user on our forum was temporarily suspended for sending inappropriate private messages. He's sent in an appeal in which he claims to understand what he did wrong and promises not to do it again.
Would it be possible to re-enable his account but put him in temporary probation? i.e. force him back into Trust Level 0 for a few months, or just temporarily revoke his right to send private messages?

docker info produces this:

docker version produces this:

If I open the Admin panel, then the Groups pane, select a group, then click where it says "add users" and paste in a username, the popup selector appears but it does not include the name I pasted in (I suspect it includes names starting with V (Command-V)). If I press return, the randomly named V person will be selected, not the valid username I pasted in. If I delete the username I pasted in, it deletes the preceding user!
This is all in Safari/Mac with Discourse 1.1.3

Okay so our users are being shown a lot of old unread or recently closed tips in their suggested topics feed.
Is there anyway we can improve this? Are closed topics excluded in latest? I know some changes were made semi recently (trying to find which version it is included in).
I see new being demoted:
Is the plan eventually to make these suggested topics more meaningful to the individual user?

The bug: When you open a user card that has a <hr> in its description, all other user cards you'll open until the next full reload will look like the one with the <hr> in it.
I added one to my user card here, in case someone wants to see a repro.

Hi
I'm trying to add this iFrame:iframe src="http://static.vexflow.com/embed/articles/2581" width="100%" height="317" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"
The iframe does not display. I'm not sure exactly what is required to have certain iframes display.
On a related note: The code I'd like to display is from this javascript library called vexflow
Is there a way to install this javascript library into Discourse so that I could use it natively?
Thank you!

I've had a lot of trouble configuring my site appearance to be more ergonomic and space efficient, and I've managed to change base font size and even get rid of some, but unfortunately not all, unnecessary padding.
However, one thing that I would like to scale up (or in some use cases, way down) instead, would be the avatars, and MAYBE custom emoji.
I am, unfortunately, at my wits end and the more I try to find answers from the sources, the more frustrating this is and there are some other modifications I would like to move on to, so if anyone could have any pointers on where I should begin, I would be really thankful

Odd that proper colors show in preview. But not when saved.

Was editing a wiki post, tested out an external link in the preview window (didn't open in a new window even though I have it set to default to do so), pressed back button and lost everything I had written.
When creating a new post, it seems to save your draft -- I assumed edits were handled the same way, but it appears they aren't.
(first time posting in the feature category -- hopefully I'm doing it right)

I'm working on some new features for the phpBB importer and wanted to add the ability to pin topics.
Looking at other importers I got the impression I could do it simply by setting thepinned_at
attribute.
However, I couldn't get it to show as pinned topic. Does this actually work for the other importers?Any hints on what I have to set in order to get pinned topics?

I have been thinking about this a lot, and decided to take a shot at a "minimal" front page customisation.
https://meta.discourse.org/?preview-style=589a2b8f-237f-4408-b86b-2d5f158b22b6 (open in new tab)
Here is a list of things I did
- Remove Views
- Remove Star
- Get rid of avatar images use names instead
- De-emphasize categories
- Use more "traditional color" for topic link
- Use replies instead of posts
Some conclusions from my experiment:
I think "Replies" is much more natural than column name than "Posts", technically its simply "Posts - 1", however its a far clearer concept to convey and it correctly calls attention to Topics with only 1 posts, cause 0 is a number that stands out.
Long term I think we should offer a "less loud" category style, the current rainbow of colors puts categories in a far more important bucket than the content, categorization feels secondary to title to me.
I feel the sea of avatars is a bit loud, not recommending changing it right away but I think it does add a lot of busyness to our front page
For me the more traditional topic title colors work better, I find they catch the eye and call attention to the title nicely
The simplified design is definitely a lot more "boring", but I find working through very long lists easier with it.
I am really not sure about zebra striping anymore, I think its actually causing more harm than good, the subtle line works way better in my simplified design
Star should go, its just adding noise for almost no gain
I am not going to get into an "ago" argument again, but for the simplified design I would have preferred "1 hour ago" as opposed to "1h" the extra verbiage would have added clarity and there is room above the name.
I don't think the "simple design" is better than our current design, I just think it is different, and perhaps more familiar to existing forum users. It packs less information.
Interestingly the "simple design" does not work at all any wider than 850px or so, which calls out to a need for some sort of auxiliary column to complement it (with faq or shoutbox or ads or whatever).
A very cool thing is that this is all achieved using the customize menu.
CSS
.topic-list > tbody > tr:nth-child(odd) { background-color: white; } .topic-list > tbody td { border-bottom: 1px solid #eee; } .topic-list a.title:visited:not(.badge-notification) { color: #3b5998 } .topic-list a.title:not(.badge-notification) { color: #4a6b82; font-weight: normal; font-size: 18px; } .topic-list .creator, .topic-list .editor { font-size: 13px; display: block; margin-top: 3px; a { color: #565656; } } .topic-list .main-link { width: auto; } .topic-list td { color: #565656; padding-bottom: 10px; } .topic-list th { color: black; background-color: #F1F1F1; } .topic-list td:first-of-type { padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 10px; padding-top: 10px; } .topic-list { max-width: 900px; } .topic-list .last-post { min-width: 130px; .relative-date { color: #464646; } }

Hello, I noticed the following log labeled as "Fatal":
ActionDispatch::ParamsParser::ParseError (795: unexpected token at 'alihack<%eval request("alihack.com")%> ')
Here's the complete log:
https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8149652It appears to just be a hacking attempt from a spammer IP, supposedly one of the worst known spammers according to the chatter I can find by Googling. Is is just an attempt? Or was it somehow successful? And if just an attempt, why is it labeled as "Fatal"?
Thanks.

I'm still trying to find (German) websites that are already using Discourse.
Is there some kind of "magic string" that I could throw into a Google search and see a SERP with forums running Discourse?
So I'm looking for something to search for like e.g. "proudly powered by wordpress" for WordPress websites.

Hello there,
I just installed Discourse after 3 years of try (I hate Ruby because of that, but new server, clean Wheezy), with the Docker install, and I would like to import my SMF database to Discourse.I found this script : https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/script/import_scripts/smf2.rb, but it doesn't work on the Docker install (empty script directory : https://github.com/discourse/discourse_docker/tree/master/scripts), and it's pretty much difficult with the manual install (as describe here in the Ubuntu install doc, errors while installing the database).
So, my question is : how to import a SMF forum to the Docker install of Discourse ?
