Is there a way to flag a user as "do not email"? (suspend sending emails to a specific user)
I understand that it's possible to adjust all a users email settings - but at some-point I would like to undo the action and revert the email settings back to the user selected values.
Basically I am finding that some users email addresses are expiring / bouncing ...
... I would like to suspend sending emails to a user.I can then contact the user via alternative methods - or wait for them to contact me. Adjust their email address and continue sending emails to that user.

Till this moment I used Discourse on Debian 7 using this guide:
https://packager.io/gh/pkgr/discourse/install#wheezy
Emails worked right after I didapt-get install postfix
, without SMTP at all.Now I'm trying Discourse on Ubuntu using this guide:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-discourse-on-ubuntu-14-04
But I have no luck with sending emails yet. I don't want to use Mandrill at all (because why should I?). And emails doesn't work afterapt-get install postfix
, I guess because Discourse doesn't set up to work with postfix by default, unlike packager.io version.Did anyone else tried to set up Discourse to send emails from same server? And... not failed horribly like I did?

I set TrustLevel of new user as 0, and the least level for posting is 1.
But that leads to a bad practice, people cannot find the "New Topic" button, and have not idea that how to promote the level to posting.
I think a better soultion is, just keep "New topic" button displayed, and when user click, alert them if not permission to create topic.
Or just place a link or help text instead of the button.

So over on forum.minecraftpvp.com we were having a bit of fun and made a "2014 awards category."
There were threads for nominations, and after the nominations were closed to go into the voting stage, all the nomination threads were made invisible (only accessible by link). Now there's only one topic in the category, and yet the category statistics still say "26 / week, 26 / month".
Although it doesn't really matter, I don't know whether it's a bug or intentional, so I'm just gonna post it here to let the developers know.

Let me first say that I personally prefer using discourse forums above phpbb forums for a couple of reasons, mainly functionality related. On a phpbb forum I still sometimes have things like "Oh wait ! This guy actually did react on my post there 2 years ago."
That being said, if I raise the question on a phpbb forum if they would like to switch to discourse, I often get a reaction like this:
is it me or every Discourse forum i've seen feels "messy" and hard to read? phpBB and similar forums may feel too "2000s", but at least they work and the front-page being categories with a blurb about what the categories are all about (and category groups in case there are many of them) makes it much easier to go and read a forum. Also all the widgets and trinkets and everything that seems to be added with pages full of little user icons, buttons, etc make it feel too busy - something that is worsened by the minimal (to no) separation of different posts (and the "replies" tab which is really confusing since by clicking it you see the same stuff twice if all replies are to the main or to few posts). In 'regular' forums, quotting, having a grid and somtimes even alternating background colors for different replies help.
This quote is from this reddit page: http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/2eo5in/introducing_discourse_10/
and is +1 by 35 people, so I guess many people feel this way. For me, it is not about the style or look that makes discourse good, it is about the features such as being able to quickly see all the latest or unread post, the markdown editor, the ability to like a post, the ability to tag someone, the ability to summarize a topic, the good search functionality, the mathjax support as plugin etc. etc.All those things are for me much more important then how discourse actually look. So I was wondering, would it be possible to make discourse look more like a phpbb forum using a plugin ? It is of course not necesarry to remove features that discourse have to make it more look like phpbb, but I'm more thinking about the category page, and just how posts are displayed.

We just did a restore of our forums and can't get avatars to work. Gravatars are not working, it shows just a blank box. Refresh does not help.
I set the forums to allow user uploads and have the same problem. I'm not sure what I'm missing here.

Hi All, First time posting here. Not sure if this is the appropriate category for this, apologies if its not.
I have created a forum that will be private that is transitioning from a private Facebook group, the group is 4000+ members.
While transitioning from the Facebook group to discourse, is there a way to stream a private rss feed to the private Facebook group.
I can do this no problem when the forum is open, but cannot find a way when I make the forum private.
Help/suggestions appreciated.

Hi! Thank you so much for discourse.org. It is a wonderful tool and I'm looking forward to using it to help people.
We just set up a new discourse instance, and I wanted to have an independently-maintained copy of this page. So I asked The Wayback Machine to make a copy, but the copy it made comes out looking like a blank, empty page.
I'm guessing there is some bad interaction between the discourse Javascript code and the Javascript code injected by the Wayback Machine, but that's just a guess.
I would love it if my discourse instance could be archived for posterity by the Wayback Machine. How can we make this possible?
Thanks again!

I already have a Discourse installation set up on Digital Ocean with Docker using the beginner guide. I wish to put a second Rails app on the same droplet. I see that there's a similar discussion in this topic and this other topic but no specific solution described in detail.
The sites need to be set up like this:
Other Rails App: http://www.mysite.com and http://mysite.com
Discourse Docker: http://forums.mysite.comAlternatively a seperate droplet could be used for the other Rails app, but if possible I would like to configure nginx to have them on the same droplet. I'm just not sure how to configure nginx to point to both the Docker Discourse app and a regular Rails app. Any pointers would be appreciated. This seems like it would be a common configuration worth documenting here.

Is there any way to make user automatically login/signin into their account as soon as they click any email link send to them through system.
As in current system i didn't able to find any way to do this, even on clicking a link in email which i receive(notification email) takes me to particular topic as a unknown user (without automatically sign me in into the system).

Hi there,
Not sure this is
support
although it could be -- here's my use case:For my clients' discourse installation I have two environments; staging and production. I have a synchronisation script for the website which syncs data from production to staging each night to keep staging as close to production as possible.
I would like to do the same for discourse, but as the forums are accessible from different hostnames with different admin settings I would only like to sync the post information (and users which aren't already present in the database, but anonymising their user account (i.e. overwriting email/real name/etc fields on the sync so there's no PII in the staging database -- i don't want to accidentally email real people from staging!)
Is this possible right now? The import/export looks to be a bit full featured for me -- i.e. it'll nuke and overwrite everything. Am I going to have to write a rake task on each and my own importer layer?

For a variety of reasons I'd like to encrypt all data at rest in our private financial forum. What are the options and issues?
At the database level, common approaches are column-specific, whole database, and whole disk. Are any of these possible with Discourse? If so, what are the pros and cons?
For attachments, I'm uploading to S3 and plan to turn on server-side S3 encryption which should be transparent to Discourse. Has anyone tried this yet?
