I've added a category on my forum, a parent category, and on the description is ended with an emoji, a smiley face to be specific, but when user selects all category, the text description shows the emoji as [smile] rather than
when the category is accessed, the smiley face is shown properly.
On /users/activate-account page, I get the following Javascript error:
Uncaught ReferenceError: I18n is not defined ( In i18n-patches.js, Line # 2). This error does not occur on the homepage of the forum. It happens both in Firefox and Chromium (on Linux).
This seems to be occuring in both production and development (when I run the app with "bundle exec rails server") environments.
I have successfully installed a discourse instance on a Digital Ocean server.
Now I need to host my discourse in China, but due to the 'Great Wall', it's so hard to build a docker image from that server, the connection problems is killing me.
My question is: can I pack the existing instance on my Digital Ocean server, and transfer the data to the new server by myself, and start hosting from there?
I want to skip the ./launcher bootstrap app step and directly go to ./launcher start app?
Change the value for "Who can use this group as an alias?"
Click "Save"
Here's the bug: Refresh the page. You'll notice that the "Who can use this group as an alias" selection was not saved. You can only change and save this value after you have created and saved the group.
Incidentally, if you go from doing this to creating a new category and you want to restrict that new category to the group you just created, the group will not appear in the Permissions list under the Security tab on the Category Creation modal until you refresh the page. This is a minor annoyance, but I walk into it every time I do this.
For context: we use groups and restricted categories for discussion of projects that are under NDA, so we have a good number of restricted categories and groups created solely for the purpose of segregating those discussions.
I have a Discourse forum at http://discourse.osmc.tv. It's running a Docker instance in a virtual machine and has been fine.
I've tried migrating to SSL. As we serve multiple SSL sites from that IPv4 I can't add the certificate and key and have nginx listen on 443. I'm using Pound, so I've added the key and certificate to that and I'm reverse proxying to HTTP.
I can now make posts (issues deleting though) and access everything via SSL. However I can't change any settings under admin/ when I'm on SSL, but can if I access via HTTP. I've tried:
Going to http://SITEURL/admin and changing the SSL enabled setting to ON. It's now ON (what does this do? I'm still able to access the http:// so it doesn't seem to be forcing redirects).
Rebuilding the Docker instance
If I try edit a setting such as the Site Name and click the green tick, I'll get 'Sorry, an error occured'. I don't see anything in my browser console, so I'm wondering the best way to debug this. I suspect the AJAX requests might be going via HTTP even though I'm on HTTPS -- although that wouldn't explain why posting functionality seems to work without too many problems.
Does Discourse support this? I want Discourse to realise I'm on SSL but let me terminate at Pound and proxy it this way.
I'm having trouble getting email-in to a category working. I may be misunderstanding the Custom incoming email address field in the category settings. What is an example placeholder value for this field?
We are using reply by email successfully (eg. ourname+{reply-key}@gmail.com), and I'd like to add posts via an email. I assume the standard way is to use an address like ourname+{category-name}@gmail.com.
I've tried treating the field as both a fixed reply key (catname) and a full email address (ouremail+catname@gmail.com). When I send an email to the address, I get the Email issue -- Unknown Reply Key reply for Discourse. Am I missing something?
Is there a way to get the Top Posts (listed at site/top or site/top/monthly) on a different page (specifically i'm making a sidebar for it) - I can do it by framing in another copy of the page, but that's obviously not the right way to go about doing it. Does anyone know if there is a way to call the table up elsewhere?
I have a software developer that needs access to discussions on his software category but no access to all other categories. I'm looking under Category security and there doesn't seem to be a deny permission. So it would appear I need to make an everyone style group excluding only this one user. I don't see a way to bulk add all users to a group. Am I missing something? The best option would be to have a deny permission so I don't have to add every registered user to an 'everyone' style group as they sign up. What's the best way to accomplish a person having access to only one category?
It's obviously easy to "add" someone to a thread by using an @ mention (for example, I just added @Bill_S to this thread).
However, on private messages there is an "add user" option and on threads there is an "Invite" option where you can put an email address. If you try to put a user name in the invite it tells you to enter an email address. If you put an email address of an existing user, it fails saying they already exist.... Could this be updated to have similar behavior to an @ mention? To a new user it might seem like there is no way to add an existing user to a thread, especially if you don't know about @ mentions as they are not a common feature on most non-wordpress forums.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong or this is intended. But when I am on latest and see new updates, I want to x,r or x,t. Doesn't work. When I go to the new tab/page, it works.
Don't know if there's other shortcuts that may be more beneficial to ux if available on all pages.
Changes do save, as far as I can tell (only had the install running for roughly a day - only thing that doesn't seem to be saving and/or displaying is a custom field). Just curious if this was a bug or if something is setup wrong.
Someone used a spoiler tag to blur a fun, but NSFW image.
The problem is that the image loads and displays unblurred until the image fully loads.
This kind of defeats the purpose.
Can we either have a NSFW tag that hides before fully working? Or have the spoiler tag hide content completely until after it can apply the blur filter?
So, we already have a community, and know a lot about the community. Have asked them to fill-out a profile, etc...
Could we use that info to pre-populate profiles and then invite individuals to accept/edit their profile and join the community?
Lets say. Once I finish creating one profile, I send the person an e-mail letting them now of the new discussion space and their new profile, give them, username, password, ask them to join, and then let them do whatever they want with their profile.
Hey guys, I've just completed the import and setup from an archaic Vanilla2 forum, but the the posts are out of date order, seemingly grouped by User. It seems to be related to posts not being inserted into the database synchronously. Some posts have suggested moving all posts in a mis-ordered thread to a new one fixes it; although I need to fix this over all historic threads.
Is there any SQL or Rails command to run to re-sort post within all threads? Any suggested fixed? Cheers.
There should be an RSS icon somewhere so users know that a site supports it. (toggle in admin for those users who don't want to advertise the functionality?)
I saw the earlier discussion https://meta.discourse.org/t/cant-delete-categories/8173 in which a non-zero topic_count field on a Category prevents its deletion. The problem I am seeing is that when I delete all the Topics in a Category (via the rails console - there were a lot of them in this case) the Edit Category dialog is still showing a topic_count greater than zero.
