Editing profile pages

Hello, I am new here.

I am currently trying to modify a discourse page...

For instance if I wanted to change the background to be displayed on the full page rather then just in that little box. Where would I look to change that setting?

Can non-activated user have posts?

Discourse doesn't allow a non-activated user to log in. They can't post new topics or replies.

Thus we didn't show user card and user profile page for the non-activated user. However when I work on Discuz import script, I found the user email may be unconfirmed but they can already post some topics. After I imported the data to Discourse, I can read non-activated user's posts but not their user card and profile.

If that was by design, I would just mark the user email as confirmed. Or we can allow to show their user card and profile?

Markdown quote requires blank line to end quote

Formats to:

hello cruel world

Least hated favourite fish.

But would have expected:

hello cruel world

Least hated favourite fish.

Has a knock on effect for inline emails.

It looks like GMail and very likely other HTML email clients format the text version of a quote with an inline response in exactly this way. For example, what appears to be an inline response in an email client gets formatted like so:

>
> quoted text from email has quote marker above and below
>
inline response appears directly below

The latter is one of several "issues" I'm getting hauled over the coals for in our Google Groups migration, as this often leads to the entire inline response being formatted incorrectly or in some instances hidden completely.

Discourse not showing profile customisations (when not logged in)

@LuaTenshi wrote:

As the title says, Discourse seems to not want to show custom profile images such as the "Profile Background" or "User Card Background" to users that are not signed in. I was looking for an option to allow it because I thought that maybe it was just disabled by default but that was not the case as I could not find the option.

Any ideas? Sorry for the trouble ^^;

Category Content Forum Types

Content Category Types for Videos, Questions, Events, Groups

  • Video Category will display thumb images of videos
  • Question Category will be the normal discourse question style
  • Event Category Content Types will show dates of the event
  • Groups allow you to add a group logo to the topic! blush

How it would work?

1.You make a category like you normally do in discourse
2.Then you select with a radio button what type of category type it is i.e Videos, Questions, Events, Group

I hope that's helpful idea! blush

Is TL4 "Make Wiki" Delay intentional?

@abarker wrote:

It seems that TL4 users are unable to convert a post into a wiki until that post is at least 5 minutes old. Based on feedback from the admin at my primary forum (@PJH) there does not appear to be any settings to change this timeframe.

  • Is this 5 minute delay intentional? If so:
    • Why is it not configurable?
    • What is the reasoning behind making TL4 users wait 5 minutes before making a post a wiki?

Form or Topic Autofill

$

@thump wrote:

I may not be able to explain this very well or there might be a way to do this currently in Discourse - if so, my bad stuck_out_tongue.

Essentially the goal I'm trying to achieve by either working on a plugin or hopefully there is some trick I can use, to autofill the body of a new thread. The reason I want to do this is because my forum is for a gaming clan/community (whatever you want to call it, just a bunch of idiots who play games together). The forum is the first point of contact for new recruits - people who want to join the group. As for now, all I can do is make a pinned post and hope they copy and paste the template.

However, I was thinking it could be neat, for both my community and others, if there was a feature / plugin / etc, that would allow an admin to set a category topic rule which would simply autofill the body of a topic with information. So for example, anybody who chooses the "Recruit" category would have the body filled with:

Name:
Location:
Gamertag:
Favorite Food:

That or a way to create a link (maybe there is one) that on click would act as a new topic button with the body autofilled and the category selected. I guess my question would be a few things: 1) is this already possible in some way 2) how advanced do you think this might be (I'm just starting to learn RoR, would have no problem making this my first "big" project)

Thanks!

I noticed that the API includes a by-external route, which seems to allow you to get user data by the SSO external id, which is great. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work with external_ids that have periods in them.

It looks like this is a common issue with Rails. Could you fix this?

Thanks!

Is it possible to unwithdraw a post?

@tobiaseigen wrote:

Is there a way to unwithdraw a post? I somehow managed to write the post, save it, then find myself looking at it in the editor again, maybe in another tab, then closing it and being prompted to discard or save. I had already saved it, so hit discard.. then found that I had withdrawn it! Gahh!

I couldn't figure out how to "unwithdraw" my post, so ended up going into the history, finding the raw version and then pasting it into a new post. that was a relief since it was a longish post that I spent some time on.

A link for the author to take back the withdraw action would be user friendly and feasible for users that do what I did and don't have the saviness to go look for the raw version.

In other words, instead of discourse.site.com, run it under something like site.com/discourse?

We think we can make better use of our SEO juice if we do the latter.

Since I'm TL4 over there, I tried using the "Rebuild HTML" command to fix this mismatch, but 20 minutes later, nothing has changed.

Color changes can't be previewed?

@codinghorror wrote:

So I tried doing that, however, whenever I would try to preview the CSS it wouldn't force the color changes, just the CSS changes. Anyway to preview off a color change? Or a simpler way to do it in CSS as there isn't a preview generated based off color changes that I can find.

Where I can preview off one of these to generate the preview links:

Or does it have to be the CSS/HTML only?

For example, I'm trying to offer a dark theme similar to this one but the colors don't override the default theme when I use the CSS changes only.
