Animations in general and Animations for User Cards

I have noticed that user cards just pop in without any sort of smooth animation. I was wondering if there is anything planned when it comes to making the user-cards a little fancier?

There seem to be no animation options on Discourse at all how ever the forum does have animations here and there. I was wondering if there will be a way to configure and or change these animations in the future?

Just tested reply by email, with reply by email address as suggested like: respuestas+%{reply_key}@site.com.

Replied to an email like that, and I didnt get a bounced or rejected email, neither my reply was posted.

Is there any special thing to do to make Mandrill can work with reply by email?

Feature: Reorganization Mode

It would be nice to be able to reclassify vast amounts of topics without resetting activity data or triggering any rules. I might suggest an option in settings that put that site in that mode where changes made my Admins did not appear as activity.

In my case, as I see what categories are getting activity I want to make structural tweaks to the categories and there relationships to encourage additional participation. I don't however want to trigger notifications to the participants in those topics or have digests go out that make those topics seem like they had recent activity.

After the admin makes the changes to the topics, I would expect no emails related to these changes to be triggered. I would expect the view of the Latest topics to be unchanged etc...

Default categorie based on group

For my courses I gather my clients on Discourse. There they can meet clients from other courses.

Each course has its 'private' category. And there's a public category for all clients. The public category is now set as the default category, but it turns out some clients forget to select a category and post private stuff in the public category.

So my feature request: set a dynamic default category based on your group membership.

I realize this might be plugin territory.

Can Discourse be implemented in an ASPX application?

Composing new message: old text shows in editor

@bartv wrote:

I have the following issue on my Discourse installation, verified in several browsers:

  • I compose a new message and post it.
  • I start composing another message with the hotkey C, only to find the previous message in my editor.
  • I have to 'cancel' composing first before I can create a new message.

It's important to notice that this only happens when I use the hotkey, not when I click the 'New topic' button. As I'm a bit of a keyboard monkey, that means I always get this wink

I'm on the latest version, is anyone else seeing this?

White screens under higher load, but server is not stressed

@bartv wrote:

Hi,

earlier this week I ran an 'ask me anything' in my community for a few hours. During this time, I had between 20 and 40 people on the site (measured in Google Analytics realtime). Under normal conditions, my Discourse installation is rock stable, but not many people suffered white screens, connection errors and not being able to post their messages.

During the session I monitored CPU and memory usage and there we all fine - usually less than 30% CPU load, free memory left and swap space was not in use. I'm running on a 2GB Digital Ocean instance with a 1GB swapfile.

I couldn't find any errors in the rails logs, and I'm quite at a loss what might have caused this. Any ideas?

Proper configuration for CORS headers with Docker - app.yml or nginx/conf.d/discourse.conf within the container?

Continuing the discussion from How to enable Cross-origin Resource Sharing with docker:

The topic above explains setting CORS variables in containers/app.yml. This topic Cross domain rules, followed? describes setting it in the /etc/nginx/conf.d/discourse.conf file. I just had some quick questions:

  1. Does setting the variables in app.yml mean adjusting /etc/nginx/conf.d/discourse.conf inside the container is unnecessary?
  2. When setting the config in app.yml, does it go into the env: portion?

What does selecting "Primary Group" for a user do?

$

@DeanMarkTaylor wrote:

I've been trying to work out exactly what selecting a "Primary Group" for a user does...
... thought I would share what I have found:

Selecting the Primary Group

Selecting a user from /admin/users takes you to the specific users admin page /admin/users/{username}.

On that page you will find the groups options:

You can only select a Primary Group for a user if they have "Custom" groups selected.
In the example above committee_members and full_members_14_15 are the only "Custom" groups, the ones left are "Automatic".

Looking at the Groups section will help you work out which ones are "Custom" and "Automatic"

What does it do?

Adds CSS class to users posts

If the primary group is called discourse the CSS class added to topic-post will be group-discourse.

You could use this to change the post colour based on the users primary group.

Links users "title" to Primary Group

For example the user below has their primary group set to discourse and their title is "co-founder" and "co-founder" links to https://meta.discourse.org/groups/discourse.

This is handy to understand the relationship of a users title to the group they are in - and what other users might be in the group.
Although this linking of user title might change to be a site option.

Suggestions on adding "NSFW disallowed" language to FAQ/TOS?

@lee_dohm wrote:

I'm the moderator on Discuss, the official Atom editor forum. Just this morning, I trimmed a screenshot containing a NSFW image out of a post. Since Discuss is a forum about a programmer's editor, I really don't feel that anything NSFW belongs on the board (whether in posts, avatars, bios, etc). I'm thinking about recommending something to that effect be added to the FAQ/TOS of the site and was wondering if anyone else here has experience/language/boilerplate or other suggestions around this?

This is the biggest collection of moderators/admins I could think of grinning Sorry for not categorizing, but I couldn't find a category that fit.

New Indicator is showing wrong numbers again

Something seems to be amiss with the "New (X)" indicator again.
I know there are topics with a similar problem but my recreation steps don't require clicking "Top" or opening stuff in new tabs or anything like that.

On the other Discourse Instance (TDWTF) the New counter acts up for me when I click on it.
All Screenshots are taken after loading the page. There has been no editing the picture besides cropping the image to protect my privacy.

Recreating steps:
Open Discourse with New(X):

Click on New(7) to look at those new topics:

Wonder where the 30 comes from and click back to the main page:

Refresh (F5) to get the 7 back:

I can't reproduce it on meta.discourse.org but I am unsure on how the bug comes to be in the first place.

The problem seems to be with discourse as I can recreate it (over there) with Opera and Firefox.
I also logged out and back in without any changes.

Filed Under: Fun fact, the screenshots were taken after I already went through this cycle once... it showed 9 before and I was looking for the 2 new ones I hadn't seen yet

@Sam @codinghorror @eviltrout @PJH you guys are admins over at our instance, right? Can you confirm this is happening (via impersonating)?

My apologies if this is already fixed in newer instances.

Using Bootstrap styles / customizing CSS

@DKH wrote:

I'd like to use Boostrap's styling for the top navigation, e.g., class="nav nav-pills pull-right", to be consistent with our primary site. Is it feasible?

And, if not, how do I override the default CSS. For example, to position the top navigation elements. Everything currently 'floats' left. I want Sign Up to float right. style="float: right;" doesn't work and, in fact, breaks the code, i.e., no customized navigation is displayed.

Thanks, Doug

Require Log in to Post Job Opportunities, a publicly visible category

$

@DKH wrote:

Our site is 'open,' i.e., anyone can view / read the content. We'd like to require sign in AND pre-approval in order to post jobs to the Job Opportunities category. A step in the right direction is to specify 'role', admin / moderator, and 'badge' level. However, our ultimate goal is to only permit job posts by pre-approved company HR personnel and recruiters in order to prevent trolling.

As an alternative first step, we could create a private category and 'invite' users to participate. But, I don't think that makes the job posts publicly visible.

I could also make it a category only editable by admin and staff and handle the posts ourselves. But, that could get rather time-consuming.

Ideas regarding a work-around appreciated. Thanks, Doug
