Batch operations on multiple users

I've just migrated from an older forum, and would like to trim down spam users coming from a certain set of domains:

Would be great if there was a way to have checkboexes next to the users (just like with topics), to enable batch operations (mainly, delete).

Auto close somehow getting turned on for admin

@funvill wrote:

This problem only seems to affect admin users.
Only affects some posts, not all posts.

A admin user will create a new topic in a category. The topic will be posted to the forum successfully. There will be no warnings/notification on the initial topic that it will be auto closed. After about 5-10 mins, The topic will show that it will be auto close after 60 mins.

I am sure that I did not set the auto close flag for this topic.
I am sure that the category does not have the "auto close after x" flag set.
I am sure that none of my other admins set this flag either.

Installed version: v1.3.0.beta2 +31
URL: talk.hackspace.ca
Example: https://talk.hackspace.ca/t/is-it-caturday-yet/1711 (testing the mute function)

Change design based on category

I'm wondering if a plugin exists yet to change the page style based on the category you're viewing?

I know you can change the background image and logo per category, but it would be nice to create CSS styles that can be applied per category.

Does anybody else have a need for this? I don't think it would be that hard to implement.

p.s I searched for this but couldn't find any related topics about this yet.

#main-outlet bg hides custom category background when making a topic a banner

@jamesmarkcook wrote:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set a custom background on a category
  2. Enter a topic in this category and from the topic settings menu make it a banner topic

If you perform the two steps above, the #main-outlet div background goes from being transparent to a block colour which hides the custom category background. Now, this may be a feature, but it looks nasty in my browser.

Hi,

I want to use multisite with Discourse, I read it's better to run separate web and data containers. I don't know how to do that, can you explain me ? I have installed Discourse on a Digital Ocean droplet by following the official guide.

Thank you very much for your help kissing_heart

How to reload configuration?

Hi there,

I love Discourse and the community. Here is a quick question: Say I've made some changes to app.yaml, like modifying SMTP settings, is the only and correct way of updating the running config via the ./launcher rebuild app?

Or is there another way to reload the config without taking the entire site down for a moment?

List of wiki editors

@Stefan wrote:

I was thinking at this today, while looking through the edits made by the community - it would nice to see the list of all people who edited a wiki post. This way you attribute some recognition to them and you can also create responsibility (if people see their name next to a wiki post they may be more careful about what they write in there).

I will also try to create a mock-up about how I see this implemented, but I'm curios to see if there are other people who find this useful?

SSL on Discourse / DO sub-domain of Heroku hosted domain

@DKH wrote:

Expedited SSL, a Heroku 'add-on', offers SSL on a sub-domain as well as on the primary domain. It would be nice to hand all the configuration / maintenance off to them.

Our sub-domain is a Discourse.org instance hosted on Digital Ocean and maintained by the Discourse team. Since the Discourse team also offers SSL as an add-on, I'm looking for guidance (a) regarding feasibility. Would the Expedited SSL have access to our Docker instance / subdomain? (b) Will we also need to purchase an SSL certificate from Discourse. And (c) potential conflicts.

Alternatively, should I simply purchase Expedited SSL for the Heroku hosted primary domain and a Discourse team SSL certificate for the sub-domain. (And sort out the configuration myself.)

Thanks

How do I clear a globally pinned topic?

Maybe I'm just thick. I have a topic that I pinned globally. Today I closed the topic, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to unpin it / clear the pin. It seems I can only unpin it for myself (but the pin is still there, just lifted) - for others the topic is still pinned.

Using top contributors to set the bar for trust levels

@erlend_sh wrote:

Just another one of my "thinking out loud"s.

I finally had a closer look at the TL3 requirements on my forum today. It was immediately obvious that the default settings were too high for our moderate level of activity. The default is probably as good as it can be. Problem is there's such a huge variance in forum activity (beyond just volume) that the default will only be right for the most average forums, which isn't the majority.

Solution: Model TL3 after your top contributing users

Let's say I have a new forum with 1000 users. After a couple months, I should be able to identify 10 users whom I consider model citizens in my little community. I want to grab averages from these users to set the bar for my forum.

  1. Add them to a special "Model Citizens" group
  2. Go to forum.example.com/model-citizens (admin only) to see these user's average read count, like count etc.
  3. Apply to TL3 settings.

You could come back to this page every so often and re-check it. Look for changing trends, model citizens gone inactive etc.

User uploaded avatars not displaying

@lonehangman wrote:

This happens on meta as well and could also happen on other discourse sites, but essentially if I try to upload a square avatar it won't display it and default back to the letter. However, if I upload a non-square avatar it will display that (after saying that it needs to be cropped).
This also happened to various users, so it isn't just me.

I ruled out browser extensions and amazon already, so now I'm not quite sure what the issue could be.
Ideas?

I was going to include a gfy/vid but it kept bugging up so I scrapped that idea neutral_face

Notifications Dropdown not dismissed on navigation via suggested topics

@accalia wrote:

This one has been appearing lately where i'll have the notifications dropdown open then initate some navigation not via the dropdown and the dropdown persists after navigation. It's not too big of a deal on desktop but it takes up quite a chunk of real estate on mobile and is extremely annoying there.

Repro steps:

  1. Open notifications dropdown from the title bar thingie in a topic
  2. Click a link in the suggested topics list
  3. topic navigation but notifications stays open.
  4. go to main page
  5. open notifications dropdown from the title bar thingie.
  6. navigate to somewhere else in discourse.
  7. Navigation occurs and notifications are dismissed.

Using the "end" key with only one topic does not scroll to bottom of page

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or a feature:

When having a post (or a private message) that has no replies, pressing the End key results in a short flash of the logo and no scrolling to the bottom of the page.

To see the effect, either use a long post or reduce the height of the browser window until a vertical scrollbar appears.

(I'm using latest Chrome dev 64 bit browser)

My question:

Is this a bug or a feature?

View-counts and Jekyll comments

I've added Discourse comments to my Jekyll site. Everything seems to be working great!

I did have one question though about how views contribute to the view count in Discourse: i.e., if I have Discourse comments on each post I make on my site, can the Views column in Discourse be considered a (highball) measure of the actual page views of a particular post?

Sending the invitation email in another language

@vulkanino wrote:

I have my Discourse implementation in Italian language. Sometimes I want to invite English speaking people to the forum, but if I send them the invite, they receive an Italian language email. I have then to follow up with an email with step-by-step instructions on where to click to set their interface language to English.

I'd like an option to send the invitation email in English or another language. Or, even better, a language setting on the forum - not hidden in the user preferences - but accessible directly in the home page, something like this:

What do you think?
