I noticed there are a few team members in the forum with "intern" badges - I wondered:
- How does an internship look like?
- Who gets accepted into an internship?
- Can anyone personally relate about his experience as an intern?
- What are the follow-up paths from being an intern?
Thank you.

We had daily backups turned on via this thing: https://meta.discourse.org/t/hot-off-the-presses-automated-backup-support/13805
However, we had not yet setup the S3 settings.
Anyway, I accidentally rebuilt my Digital Ocean droplet, and a few days worth of content is gone. I'm wondering if there is a way to access those backups.
/var/discourse/shared/standalone/backups/
is empty.

Hello everyone,
I'm new comer to discourse and I loved it very much.Recently I do some changes in discourse "session controller" by adding to functions so that I could login to forum remotely using SSO.
I were going to change this in online source code but every time I rebuild all changes restored to origin, so I read that I need to put these changes in "Session Controller" and routes file via plugin.
I searched for how do this via plugin or a documentation for how doing an plugin but I didn't reached any thing.
Can any one helps me ?

Continuing the discussion from CSS Clearfix for

?This issue in the original topic post never really got a correct solution.
As a workaround I added the following custom CSS:
@import "common/foundation/helpers.scss"; .admin-contents { @extend .clearfix; }

If you, or someone you love, is running a Discourse instance you should know that we are deprecating S3 for image / attachment storage in the upcoming 1.3 release.
Backups are not affected
This change will NOT affect using S3 for backups in any way. Backups via S3 are fully supported and will continue to work with no changes.
So, if you were using S3 for storing avatars, uploaded images, and attachments, you should migrate away from that as soon as possible. We do have a rake task that attempts to help with this.
uploads:migrate_from_s3 rake task
How to use:
- Disable the
enable_s3_uploads
site setting- SSH into your server
cd /var/discourse
./launcher enter app
rake uploads:migrate_from_s3
rake posts:rebake
Note that this will require a bit more local disk space for your Discourse, depending how many images, attachments, avatars (users) exist.

Continuing the discussion from Adding and editing user custom fields:
Would these fields even show up on user / admin pages I would have assumed it would only be the
user_field_X
which are added via the site/customize...I ask, because I've created a field called "subdomain" in the database directly, and it's no where to be seen in the GUI (which is as I expect)

There is a free video about Discourse installation using Docker from serversforhackers.com . I hope this would be a big help for newbies.
https://serversforhackers.com/video/installing-discourse-with-docker
We'll cover installing Discourse, the popular forums software built with Ruby on Rails.
Discourse is a bit unique in that it's preferred installation method uses Docker containers!
This provides us with a relatively easy, automated installation process - we don't need to be Rails developers to host our own forums!

See the attached image where the previous poster's avatar was used in the preview, instead of the person being quoted.
It's a minor issue, as the right avatar is displayed once the post is published.

I need to report a bug in the way that discourse handles flickr URLs. I created an account here and tried to post the bug description but discourse thinks I want to post a photo and tells me posting photos isn't allowed. Is there some other way to report discourse bugs? Maybe a bugzilla or something like that?

My hackerspace recently installed a Discourse forum and while it's not too bad overall, it has one super-annoying bug which I'd love to see fixed. In most posts I make, I seem to be able to include a URL, for example, here's the URL of Google:
Works fine. However, I'm a flickr user and frequently need to give people a link to my flickr account. This seems to be impossible within Discourse. When I add my flickr URL, Discourse eats it, erases it, and replaces it with an arbitrary photo that it has pulled out of my flickr photostream (and the photo doesn't seem to be a link to either the original flickr URL or to the photo itself, which is license violation for CC-licensed photos but that's another issue). I'd provide a demonstration here but this forum apparently doesn't allow photos posted and Discourse thinks all Flickr URLs are photos.
But I think I can squeeze the URL in with backticks to at least give you the ability to try it out in a post yourself
https://www.flickr.com/photos/steevithak/
- as you can see, this is just a URL, not unlike the google URL, so it seems like I should be able to insert it into a post in a form that would be active (hot, linkable, clickable, whatever you want to call it). But this isn't possible. This behavior is broken, non-useful, incorrect, etc. I could certainly understand providing a way to insert or embed a particular Flickr photo within a post but that's not what's going on here. That's NOT the URL of a photo but the URL of my Flickr photostream. This bug prevents me from providing my flickr URL within posts. Instead, I usually have to resort to email or a text to send my Flickr info.
Hopefully that makes sense. Happy to answer questions if it's not clear.

I am currently on @codinghorror's old Nexus 7 and I noticed when I use some of the profile-centric areas of Meta that the browser doesn't drop and focus to the page content when it loads a new page (eg, PMs or the User Prefs page). Instead it stays at the top where the profile vertical menu is. I admit this confused me when I attempted to check out my user prefs and then again for my private messages.
My proposed solution is to have the browser viewport jump to the relevant content on page load. As of right now there's no indication that the browser actually loaded the relevant page I requested.
I suspect this is the same for any page requested within the mobile layout for profiles.
