"uncategorized" shows on category list even when badge suppressed

I don't want to try to think up a clever "general" or "miscellaneous" or "everything else" category name - but do like the idea of people being able to add a topic without category, to be categorized later or not as the case may be.

So I really appreciate the ability to suppress the uncategorized badge so it doesn't show up in topic lists.

However on the category list, it does still show up as "uncategorized". I'd like it to not show up at all.

Year format on abbreviated post dates not clear

@abarker wrote:

The current date format used on posts is not clear at a glance. It can be difficult to determine if a post happened last month or last year. For example, the two posts below:

Looking carefully, you can see that the first is from April 2014 and the second is from April 14. However, at a quick glance, this distinction is unclear. I believe that it would improve the UX if the year format were expanded to show the full year, instead of using the apostrophe format.

Can Plugins Be Added To Basic Docker Install

@jaspervaz wrote:

Hi, I'm wondering if I install Discourse onto Digital Ocean with the basic docker guide (the install in under 30 minutes one), will I be able to easily add plugins? Or am I limited to just what the docker image has set up?

Thanks!

Embed a shoutbox

@Devanil wrote:

I really miss a shoutbox. I think the biggest factor for the creation of a 'community' is to create bonds of friendship. For this is better an informal atmosphere, without the pressure of a 'topic'. A shoutbox fulfills this role well.

I know there are people developing. But we could try to use a third-party shoutbox while there is no a plugin.

I found this:

http://www.shoutbox.com/

It is simple and has a similar design to the Discourse. But the code they provide only worked on the </head>. Would be better in the Header.

If anyone is interested in making tests and find a solution, please, help ^^

sorry for my english

Adjusting sub-categories schema and bullet style

@will_io wrote:

My project home shows categories and sub categories.

A lot of my designated categories have 10-15 sub categories. In short I'd like to:

1) adjust style of the sub categories to appear more tabular or at least have a fixed width across 3 or 4 lists side by side.

2) swap some bullets with a font icon (color is key), some with an icon sized png but then some just keep the square bullet.

My question here is which layer(s) should I be editing? There seems to be a number of ways to accomplish these things.

Can I make badge titles link to the badge page?

@KazWolfe wrote:

Title says it all. I'd like to be able to make Badge Titles link back to the page listing all the users that have that badge.

This would be useful for forums who use badges as staff ranks: Users click the Badge Title ("Developer") and get whisked to a page containing all the Developers in one place.

Is this possible in vanilla Discourse, and if so, how do I set it up?

Should I make "management" people moderators, or set their trust level to 3?

@mik01aj wrote:

I'm creating a forum for an existing community. There are some users that help coordinating our efforts and are very active in the community.

Now I can:

  • make them moderators, because they should have rights to edit / move posts,
  • set their trust level to 3 (maybe frozen), because they're trusted in our community.

Which option should I use? Or shall I do both? What are the differences?

  • The button Add Question is on all pages
  • You can call people by their skills to answer your question (not in the post by @)
  • Checking for existing questions is a part of the process of creating a topic. It's not just a suggestion system, it force you to skip it.
  • You can follow tags.
  • You can comment on each post..

And, what's your favor?

Suggested Topics not shown to web spiders

I was looking at the Topic Page on Lynx Text Browser to simulate how Google bot is viewing this page and what all links Google bot finds for crawling and interlinking purpose. Please look at the details below:

Issue:
Suggested Topics links are not getting rendered in text browser.

Steps:

  1. Take any discourse url, I took a url from try.discourse.org
    http://try.discourse.org/t/poll-whats-your-preferred-mobile-os/284

  2. When we access it in any web browser, suggested topic are there:

  3. But when we access the same page in Lynx text browser Suggested Topics are missing

As you can see there are no interlinks of other related topics on this page and I think if this can be added this will give advantage over SEO, I have also checked stackover and in stackover flow all the related links are perfectly getting rendered on text browser as well as on web browser.

Maybe it can be fixed in https://github.com/SamSaffron/pups/blob/master/lib/pups/cli.rb#L15:

by adding the line like

conf = conf.encode("UTF-8")

before the line

split = conf.split("_FILE_SEPERATOR_")

Add rel="nofollow" admin setting is not working right, its making parent domain link as nofollow

@lovechopra1 wrote:

There is a setting in Admin panel:
add rel nofollow to user content: Add rel nofollow to all submitted user content, except for internal links (including parent domains). If you change this, you must rebake all posts with: "rake posts:rebake"

This setting is by default checked but all the links of parent domain is putting up with nofollow attribute.

Please use following steps to replicate:

1 Go to admin panel and search for setting "add rel nofollow to user content", just to make sure it is checked

2 Create a new post and put link of root domain

3 Inserted link automatically append with rel="nofollow" attribute despite of being a parent domain link

Limit upgrades to next version only?

@tcn33 wrote:

Is there a way I'm not seeing to limit upgrades only to the next point release? Example:

Because domain/admin/upgrade upgrades all the way to the latest commit...

...I am currently on beta 9 + 166.

As best I can tell, in order to just be sitting on beta 9, I'd have to have performed my upgrade in the window of time between the last commit of beta 9 and the first commit thereafter. I'd rather just be on a point release and upgrade direct to the next point release (and only that far) when it's out. Am I missing a way to do that?

I'm on the tests-passed branch as per https://meta.discourse.org/t/change-tracking-branch-for-your-discourse-instance/17014.
