Old likes seem to be removable, but the aren't

@gerhard wrote:

This is just a small UX glitch, but it can be confusing if you don't know that it's not allowed to remove old likes.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Go to an old post that you liked
  • Click on the heart icon. (You will see the default cursor instead of the hand cursor, but click anyway!)

Expected result:
Clicking on the heart should have no effect. It shouldn't look like a button and the icon should stay red.

Actual result:
The heart loses the grey color after clicking even though the like can't be removed anymore.

Etiquette for support requests for hosted service? (Need a plugin installed)

@aral wrote:

Hey folks,

I’m a bit confused about the best way to file support requests. We’re on the hosted service (you guys have been great, by the way).

Should we:

  1. Post here
  2. Contact one of the Discourse admins on our forum via direct message
  3. Other

(Or a combination of the above.)

Specifically, I’d like a plugin installed (I’m attaching the original DM I sent to one of our admins on the board, here.)

For bugs, etc., we’ve been posting here (in the Bugs category) but not sure what the proper process is for direct support requests that concern only our installation.

Thanks! wink

I’d like to install the https://github.com/ligthyear/discourse-plugin-checklist to keep track of todos on development-related posts.

(If this is something I can do myself, please let me know and I will but it looked like it required access to the source.)

Thanks,
Aral

How can I delete and start again?

I've moved to a new server and there was a miss-match in the Discourse versions (old install was saying it was up-to-date, new server install is a different version) and now I just want to delete everything and start from scratch (I have updated Discourse on the old server via git pull and taken a new backup).

I've tried removing the /var/discourse directory and installing again but all the data is still present.

How do I remove everything and start from scratch again?

Is there any option to set default size of Youtube video without the need of adding `&width=690&height=400` at the end of the Youtube link?

As I know we can always add &width=690&height=400 to the end of a Youtube link to embed it with width=690&height=400.

However, I think it would be more convenience if there is an option to set default size for Youtube video. Is there any?

Admin settings don't update after restore

This has happened the three times I have carried out a restore now.. after the restore the admin settings don't seem to apply (including logos, external auth etc). It's only when I change one setting in the ACP (which has always been the 'title'setting) does everything else seem to 'click' back in. Very odd!

Is this some weird gremlin type bug?

How do I change the interface layout without using "display:none;"

@Kumaaa wrote:

Hello!

Today I installed Discourse on my localhost for the first time.
I plan to develop a social network app project with Discourse.

The first thing I want to do is to reduce the whole interface to a minimalistic layout.
For example, the post-view page has so many "unnecessary" text and buttons.
I would like to remove (or hide) some of them in the source but I dont want to use the CSS property
"display:none;" for each button or text.

I'd be really glad if someone can explain it to me.

Updating user mentions after user rename

@iamntz wrote:

Hi guys.

I have few users to rename on a forum and I also want to update the mentions. There is any chance i can do this with some kind of console magic or something similar?

The usernames that I have to change are pretty unique, and there are zero chances to replace something wrong (unless there is some serialization involved, dunno)

Thanks!

@jesselperry wrote:

Not sure when this started - but I just noticed it. I have in Admin settings the default for "Auto Track Topics For" to 0 - so that all new users their default is for a topic to be tracked as soon as they enter it.

However with that enabled, individual Preferences under "Automatically track topics I enter" shows "never" selected (it should be "immediately" as it was in the past). Behavior is correct. It's just a visual thing in Preferences that is causing this to display.

We came up with an innovative system administrator interview strategy that involved using Discourse, setting up Discourse, and private messaging us to communicate as a method of evaluating candidates. We also presented candidates with actual scenarios we face, and have faced, as we scale up Discourse hosting.

When the smoke cleared, we found Mac Smith.

Compatibility checks and stable versioning for plugins

$

@erlend_sh wrote:

This recently came up:

There's got to be a better way to do this. It seems very wrong to neglect users who've chosen to stay on the Stable updates branch.

Some options:

1 - Plugins have "stable" and "beta" branches as well.

Quite simply, once you begin working on a plugin against a beta-version of Discourse, you could do so in the plugin's respective beta-branch.

2 - Plugins expose version-compatibility

I don't know how realistic this is, but I was thinking it might be possible to put this type of meta-data in the plugin.rb or something such, similar to the Requires at least: 3.8 and
Tested up to: 4.3 in a WordPress plugin's readme.txt.
