Slight tweak to email me for every post

It would be nice if the option "Send me an email for every new post (unless I mute the topic or category)" didn't include posts you yourself authored. I think I could get this functionality by muting myself, but that isn't very intuitive.

Time to First Response... crazy numbers?

@lisajill wrote:

We upgraded to the latest last night and the first thing I did was go check out these new metrics. And now I'm confused.

7.3 hours, 9.18 hours makes sense. 177 hours doesn't, and 1082 hours definitely does not. Those are for the 7 and 30 day marks. Can you help me understand how these numbers are generated and what they reflect?

Also, when I click the link to get Topics with no response I do not get a list of topics - just numbers. That would be a very handy feature; is there a way to get that? Right now I go to "top" and sort by reply to find the 0s - is that the closest?

Thank you

I don't know if I can ask this kind of stuff here, or even if it is the right category. I discovered Discourse when I was looking for Atom Discuss, the discussion forum of github's text editor.

The thing is that I like forums, I liked discourse A LOT, and I want to participate of some programming forum. That would be f* amazing.

Does anybody know a forum with this subject? I searched and didn't find...

Avatar image URLs inside quotes in imported replies are not re-written

@jbyauk wrote:

I recently went through the import process to bring an old phpBB3 forum onto Discourse. I followed the route of setting up a development environment on a local box for the import from phpBB, and then using the backup/restore process to bring the data over to our production instance installed using the supported Docker method. The forum is now live on Discourse.

I'm running into an issue, however, with replies that contain quoted posts—the avatars in the quote blocks aren't showing up. I've traced the problem to the fact that the 'cooked' HTML for the replies does not seem to have been refreshed after restoring the backup. The avatar URLs in the quote blocks are pointing to 'localhost' from the development environment instead of the forum hostname on the production instance.

Is there a way to manually trigger a refresh on all of the replies' cooked HTML?

Sass::SyntaxError in latest update?

Hey, I just tried updating from v1.4.0.beta6 +144 but the process failed, saying:

rake aborted!
Sass::SyntaxError: Undefined variable: "$primary" (in ...common/admin/admin_vase.scss)

Now Discourse says there's still an update but when I click it and go to the update screen it says it's all update to date. I'm worried my install is in a bad state now, do I have to restore?

How to recover a deleted user?

@gur wrote:

Hi,

I'm a Discourse admin on our forum, and I've just accidentally deleted a use who is very important for us. Apparently all that user's messages were also deleted. I asked that user to sign up again but he got this message:

"Error updating information, contact site admin"

Is there anyway to recover that user and all of his posts? We're have our own SSO configured, just mentioning it though not sure it's related.

Thanks,

Gur

I have a few code blocks inside lists in my "Importing from phpBB3" topic. They looked fine when I posted this a few days ago. But now, after a small edit with insignificant changes, the line breaks inside the code blocks are gone.

The preview still looks fine:

The actual post however looks wrong:

Is this a regression or is there something wrong with my post?

Our forum is getting spam

Our forum at http://www.openfl.org has been under attack from spam bots frowning

What once was a quiet hamlet became pages and pages of spam. We now have discourse-akismet installed, the good news is it properly detects incoming new spam whenever it runs. With great effort, we deleted all of the older posts that already gone through.

The bad news is that the spam traffic continues, while reading this post we had 20 more. Akismet is run every 10 minutes, is there something that could be done before that happens?

For example, what if there was a way to detect "probable spam", keeping a post hidden for 10 minutes or so, so there is time for it to be run against Akismet? If it is not spam, it could be shown and new post notifications could go out, no real harm is done.

Judging from the above quote, the topic is supposed to show up but I don't think it should trigger a 404 when an admin clicks on it.

I'm running into similar issues to the original posters in Uploaded Avatars Show as Broken and Avatars not showing up on Migrated Forum but can't seem to solve my version of the problem. I might need a modern version of Jobs::GenerateAvatars.new.perform(user_id: <user_id>, upload_id: 2) to fix the issue.

Here's an example of user zeeeblob in the 'latest' listing:

http://localhost:3000/user_avatar/localhost/zeeeblob/120/111_1.png - Works! smile
http://localhost:3000/user_avatar/localhost/zeeeblob/25/111.png - doesn't work frowning

I tried rake posts:rebake but that doesn't seem to solve the issue either. Can someone please explain to me why I am experiencing this and how to go about fixing it?

Thank you.

User Field Enhancements

@eviltrout wrote:

As part of our work on Discourse 1.4 I spent some time enhancing user fields:

Dropdowns

One of our most requested featured for user fields was dropdowns, so now you can add them. The options can even be dragged and dropped for reordering!

Field ordering

For some users it was very important to display the fields in a particular order. In the latest Discourse builds, you can reorder the fields. Just use the up and down arrow buttons, and the fields will be displayed in the same order when the user signs up.

Internal topic link behavior

We've noticed that linking a topic by using the full url e.g. http://domain.com/t/topic-slug/1234 vs the relative url /t/topic-slug/123 result in different behaviors on our site.

Linking the full url (http://domain.com/t/topic-slug/1234) will cause the whole page to reload (and clicks don't get counted), whereas the relative url (/t/topic-slug/123) will refresh the ember outlet without having to refresh the entire page.

Profile Background + User Card Background Uploader

@ndalliard wrote:

Hey guys,

I just tested a little bit the upload function for a minimalistic profile. And some things aren't that perfect in case of user experience. But pictures tell more than words can ever describe. Hmm, that sounds in german better. wink

Okay, maybe the white background wasn't the best idea to test this. But hey, no one is perfect.

That Doesnt Look Great:

  • As you can see, the images dont fit in the User Card Background Box you can rarely see anything and the same thing for the Profile Background images. Its just cutted.

  • The second thing, the dimension mentioned in the hint belov the preview isn't right. I don't know the exact dimension. But as mentionded there at the moment, that didn't worked at least for me.

The Result Looks Good:

At the end it looks okay. But I had to upload and resize a lot and I think most of the users who just want a little cool looking picture up there, dont want to invest that much time to do that. Of course, when its just a pattern, no one cares, but when its something else...

I just wanted to mention, that I really heart discourse . I mean I am writing this post in fullscreen. Just a click and resize. That is amazing. Tomorrow at the first of august my first ever discourse forum will go online. Ah, btw I am from switzerland, the first august is something special for us! boom fireworks Did I already mention that I also love this Emoji... blush Okay. I hope that no one else already mentioned that. And even if its the case. I just wanted to give something back. Cause my coding skills are still improving and I hope someday I can contribute even more!

All the best!
