Topics and replies not attributed to correct user

Had a few people create users on our Discourse instance and started messing around. Everything worked well. Then we implemented SSO from our site to Discourse, and invited a few test users. A few strange things:

We're now seeing replies being attributed to the wrong users.

Anyone can edit topics/replies of anyone else.

I only see the original users in the (Admin) User tab. There are at least several new users who have signed up, but I can't see them. (Though I do see topics/replies of theirs).

Any ideas what might be happening?

I have a new discourse_docker based install on Digital Ocean. When I click the notification icon it says "Unable to load notifications at this time." Does that mean there are no notifications to show yet or that something is wrong with the installation?

We are looking for a full-time developer to help with the roll-out of a customized version of Discourse. We'll need you to do everything from deployment to customization, including plugin work (either using/extending existing plugins or building brand new ones) and UI tweaks. You'll be paid hourly at a rate that makes sense for both you and us.

Who am I? I'm a developer who's looking to beef up his Product Manager chops. I've had extensive experience working with and customizing Discourse. I launched New Relic's forum (discuss.newrelic.com) in the early days of the now highly-advanced Discourse plugin system, working very closely with the amazing Discourse team to figure out new ways to extend the app using the plugin infrastructure. I've even developed plugins of my own, which you can find references to on this site.

As your PM, I will make sure you've got crystal clear specs for all the work you'll be doing. Since I've worked with Discourse in the past, I can even provide suggestions or brainstorm with you on optimal ways to develop features. Furthermore, I'll do all your code reviews and acceptance testing, like a real PM smile My goal is to make your life as easy as peazy!

If this is something you're interested in, shoot me a private message on this forum. I'll get back to you promptly with more details on what we're looking for, time commitments, and rates. Looking forward to working with you!

Unusable site after changing "tags sort alphabetically"

@downey wrote:

I changed the site setting for "tag style" (UPDATE: oops, no, it was actually "tags sort alphabetically") which seemed fairly innocent. However after doing so, the front page of my site is blank for everyone, with or without an active session. (Even after changing the site setting back.) This is also true for pages like /latest, /categories, etc., but not a problem for individual topic pages or other non-topic-listing pages on the site.

Resetting tags sort alphabetically to default (off) restored the pages.

Force reinstall of Discourse through Admin

Is there a way to force re-update Discourse from the Admin app? I see that Sam has fixed code for the Safari / hamburger menu issue that came up earlier today. Can I somehow trigger a new pull from Github directly from Admin without going to Digital Ocean through SSH and manually updating the css files that were updated on GitHub?

Sorry for lame question. New to this.

Change language after install

@Henkis wrote:

Hi, I've installed discourse 1.3.4, the installation was done with a US locale so the default language was set to english. I´ve changed it to sv in settings and everything is now in swedish part from the default forum entries and the welcome email that is sen out when a new user is registered. My concern is primary getting mail sent out to user localised for sv, is there a way to change that after installation?

Also, what parts is changed when switching locale and what parts are still in the locale that was used for installation?

Thanks

I have a common question regarding GPL license of discourse..
since i am using discourse library in my project now, does this makes whole bundle abide by GPL license now?
if so, then using sso login would be a very bad option..

Backups not rotating

I've just looked at our backup history and can see backups from the following date:

8/25 *
8/14 *
8/13 *
8/12
8/11
8/19
8/9

That seems like an odd spread, from what I recalled we previously had the last seven days.

We have recently changed the site name as part of our shift from using discourse in the title. The original change was on August 12, although it was tweaked again on the 13th. Starred backups above all bear the same name.

As the backup name includes the site name, is there any chance the rename is responsible for this odd distribution of dates? It's a little odd to have six consecutive days dating back more than a week and only one backup from the past seven.

@steve_pd wrote:

Can we please get the default in the sample yml switched over to beta? @sam?

Many of the issues we've experienced recently are a result of the sample yml defaulting to tests-passed, and from the other user reports which seem to coincide we're not alone on that front.

This is our app.yml at the moment

  ## Which Git revision should this container use? (default: tests-passed)
  #version: tests-passed

What are Badges?

$

@erlend_sh wrote:

Badges in Discourse reinforce positive user behaviour and facilitates "learning by doing". It is a central part of Discourse's gamification features.

Receiving Badges

There are two ways to receive a badge:

  1. Manually granted by an administrative user
  2. Automatically granted by the system

Furthermore, all badges have some optional properties.

  • Allow badge to be used as a title
  • Can be granted multiple times
  • Show badge on the public badges page
  • Show post granting badge on badge page

Creating Badges

Manual and automatic badges are created the same way, via the admin panel. What sets them apart is how they're triggered.

Manual Badges

A badge can only be granted by an administrative user. See how to manually grant a badge.

Automatic Badges

Automatic badges are granted by special triggers. Discourse comes with a lot of default badges out of the box, but administrative users can also create custom ones. At their most basic, automatic badges are simple "kudos!" for users who are just starting out.

For example:

  • Added a link
  • Received a like.

Certain badges also coincide with new trust levels. When you've attained a new trust level, you'll receive a corresponding badge to notify you of the bump-up.

  • Trust Level 1 --> Basic
  • Trust Level 2 --> Member
  • Trust Level 3 --> Regular
  • Trust Level 4 --> Leader

Want to create your own automatic badge? Go read how to trigger custom badge queries.

Badge Types - WIP

Bronze/Silver/Gold *What do they actually mean? Is it strictly a categorisation, or are there points attached to them?

Is Markdown easily replaceable in a fork?

How deeply embedded into the assumptions of Discourse is it that the input language is Markdown? If an installation wanted to use AsciiDoc, for instance, would anything more be required than to maintain a fork where the Markdown translator was replaced with an AsciiDoc one?
