Absolute Numbers in Polls

Heyah,

I remember there was a great topic once explaining the usage of the poll-plugin, but even after searching the forum for 15min I can find it (found a reference to it, that leads to a 404 though). So in case that is already implemented, please let me know how to activate it and move this out of this section wink .

Love the polls. We are using it internally to gauge interest and make participation easier. It also acts as a replacement for doodle. One thing we are using it for is to easily pre-organise events, for e.g. asking who's gonna come and what food they want (and having emoji in it, makes it awesome):

However, the "relative" counts are really irrelevant in this case for us. So when looking at the results, to figure out how much pizza/sushi to order, I have to make the reverse calculation. It'd be great, if I could configure the poll to use absolute instead of relative numbers on a case-to-case-basis.

Hi all,

If a member level 2 has past the flag requirements to promote to regular, level 3 for example.. Are the flags blocking the promotion fixed or do they "expire" after a certain time so the member is eligible for promotion later on??

What are Flags and how do they work?

$

@erlend_sh wrote:

Flagging is an in-built moderation measure in Discourse, intended to dissuade bad behavior and spam, as well as to promote civilised discourse. If you want to raise an issue about a post without derailing the topic at hand, the best course of action is usually to flag it.

By default, clicking the flag button will present a user with the following options:

  • It's Off-Topic
    This post is not relevant to the current discussion as defined by the title and first post, and should probably be moved elsewhere.

  • It's Inappropriate
    This post contains content that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or a violation of our community guidelines.

  • It's Spam
    This post is an advertisement. It is not useful or relevant to the current topic, but promotional in nature.

  • Message @codinghorror
    This post contains something I want to talk to this person directly and privately about. Does not cast a flag.

  • Something Else
    This post requires moderator attention for another reason not listed above.

Marking a post as Off-Topic, Inappropriate or Spam will trigger a moderator notification so moderators may review the issue in their flag queue (doc pending). Furthermore, this also "casts a flag" on the post, which has other consequences:

  • A user with 5 "agreed" flags can not reach TL 3.
  • A post with 3 flags will be automatically hidden.
  • A new (TL0) user whose post is flagged as spam 3 times from 3 different users will have all their posts hidden as a result. (TODO: Should probably include inappropriate too)
  • If after 48 hours a flag is still in the flag queue without any action taken, an automatic mail will go out to contact_email.
  • A topic with 12 unresolved flags from at least 5 different users will be automatically closed until the moderators can intervene.

Hi All,

Youtube embedding has stopped working for me, when you paste the youtube link, it shows in the preview, then when you click post it instantly disappears. What do I need to do to help analyse the issue? I can get you logs or whatever, I just don't know where to look.

Using the new profile menu on mobile, I notice that clicking any of these buttons

shows basically the same result - the top of the user profile page, which only has a navigation menu. You have to scroll down a lot to actually see what you came for.

Instead of that, why not show a short list of what you clicked on, right in the menu?

What are Mentions?

@erlend_sh wrote:

If you want to get a specific user's attention, the best way to do that is usually with a "mention", a concept popularised by social media sites like Twitter.

To mention a user in Discourse, you start by typing the @ character immediately followed by the first letters of that someone's username. If you're posting in an existing topic, Discourse will intelligently push active topic participants to the top of the auto-completion list.

Difference between Archived and Closed

@RabidFX wrote:

I hope this question is not as stupid as I fear it may be, but I found no post here about the difference between "Archived" and "Closed".

From what I can see, both moderation options add a lock to the title, and makes it impossible to reply to a topic.

What is the difference, both technically and in terms of perception by the user?

Modify "system" file

Hello guys

I manged to modify the file discourse/app/controllers/directory_items_controller.rb
So now people who have more that 5 posts read are shown in the directory.

To manage this I entered the container and modified the file there.
This is not a good solution since changes are lost after updates.

is it possible to do this with a plugin, I could not find any info regarding this.

All I need is to replace that file or apply a patch.

Any input is welcome.

Keep up the great work team. I hope revenue is coming your way - and I hope to be contributing soon to help reward your efforts!

"show filter by tag" shows private tags, doesn't filter tags available by category

@tobiaseigen wrote:

I was pleased to come across the "show filter by tag" admin setting today and tried it out.

Unfortunately it displays private tags, or tags that are only being used for private categories whether or not the user has access to the private categories. This is only going to sadden and frustrate users who might click on them and find no topics.

It also (counter-intuitively, I think) doesn't filter the tags available by the category you are in. This is related to an older discussion from Filter topic with specific tag inside single category.

When a subcategory is moved to a different parent category, the previous URL should redirect to the new one

I am wanting to create a new top-level category and move some of the subcategories in another that is overburdened to that new top-level category. But if I change the parent category of any of those sub-categories, all my links are broken and I have to go back everywhere and change them.

I saw that a nginx solution was suggested. Should I use that? If so can someone point me to the best way to do that? Is the default docker droplet on digitalocean an nginx server? I'm a little confused on what's actually serving the discourse install.

Thanks

Not sure if I'm missing something. I tried pinning a topic globally, but I don't see it appear at the top of any other categories.

Does the topic need to live in a particular category for it to appear as pinned globally?

Looking forward to seeing how it works. Does it take you to the topic within the category in which it was posted?
