I have some questions about multisite

I'm trying to understand the discourse multisite feature.

Does multisite run from one database, i.e. users signed up can post on any of the forums? Or is each forum completely separate as if it is a different installation entirely?

Wiki and avatar

Imagine a user posts a very small text and then converts it to wiki appealing everyone to contribute. Afterwards someone makes a very important and huge contribution! Though the "author" of the post is the first author, at least according the Discourse avatar.

It would be more fair and clear, according to me, that in case of wiki, another logo would appear.

Completely automatic updates

@dmills wrote:

Hi guys,

Just wanted to put this out there: I'd like for Discourse to automatically update itself when a new version is avaialble.

The current two-click upgrade is impressive, but I really just blindly click the buttons, tab away to something else, and close it later without inspecting the output. I would benefit more from a completely automated process that emails me to report success or failure of the upgrade.

Bonus points if updates can be scheduled to happen within certain windows (so I can pick a time with low traffic and when I'd be awake to fix a failure). Extra bonus points if it can attempt rollback on failure to prevent downtime. For my purposes, though, these would be gravy and not necessary.

Upgrade doesn't work when installed with subfolder

I've installed my copy of Discourse in a subfolder, per instructions here:

I went to upgrade today to version 1.4. When I click "admin" / "upgrade", I go to the wrong URL. When I manually go to /subfolder/admin/upgrade I see the menu but no list of upgrades. Looking under the hood there are two 404's

GET /session/csrf
GET /admin/docker/repos

Suggestions?

How to white list class names for Dialect

@crob611 wrote:

I'm working on a plugin and have a dialect that will translate

[my-plugin][/my-plugin]

to

<div class="my-plugin"></div>

but it appears the sanitizer is stripping out the class name.

Do I need to add a Discourse.Markdown.whiteListClass('my-plugin') to the initializer, or where is the proper spot to configure this?

Letter avatars out of alignment with ImageMagick update

@OnceWas wrote:

Here I go again with the avatars...

This is probably not a bug now that 1.4 has been released, but since I am not quite ready to upgrade our live site yet, I have restricted our site to Discourse 1.4b9. However, when I rebuilt Discourse to add a plugin this week, a Discourse base image update (samsaffron/discourse:1.0.13) has brought a new version of ImageMagick with it that has left all my letter avatars vertically misaligned.

The end result is that all my letter avatars now look like this:

Prior to September 22, the ImagMagick version was 6.9.1-3 Q16 x86_64 2015-05-29, and after September 22, the version is now 6.9.2-3 Q16 x86_64 2015-09-22.

Can I downgrade ImageMagick in my container and rebuild the letter avatars, at least until I'm ready to go to the official 1.4 release?

It looks like if there's a blank line before a
, the
will be rendered verbatim, unless the string before that blank line is another
?

What I expect is that the text below is rendered the same, whether blank line #3 exists or not:
Here's a claim...

Setting to suppress or redirect RejectionMailer replies

@fuerst wrote:

I'm using the email in feature to pull emails from mailboxes into Discourse. If the incoming email is rejected by Discourse the sender gets one of the Rejected email messages back. Because senders are not aware of Discourse as a backend on my site they just think their email was not delivered. That's true for the Discourse site but not for the mailbox the senders email got delivered to in the first place.

To avoid confusion on senders site it would be nice to have a setting for either suppress the Rejected messages or to redirect them to an admins mailbox. What do you think?

Use last outgoing link in closed topic as forwarder

@erlend_sh wrote:

Please bear with me as I don't know exactly what I'm suggesting yet, but I need help fleshing out this idea.

If I search "wordpress and discourse on same server", I get this result:

4 closed topics. All technically good matches as far as the search algorithm is concerned, and they will take me to the How-to I need in the end because they all link to it. However, 4 closed and near-identical topics are hardly ideal as top results.

What you really want is to send the searching user directly to the topic they all linked to before getting closed, the solution to each of these support posts, which is "Running other websites on the same machine as Discourse".

Therefore I'm suggesting:

If the last post in a closed topic contains a single link to a different forum post, or;
If the Solution (using Solved plugin) contains a single link to a different forum post, then:

The linked-to post (usually a topic) will take on the incoming link's topic title as one of many aliases. Locked topics will be down-prioritised slightly, so that the topic with the alias rises above them in search results.

So could this work or does it sound like I'm off my meds again?

If you want to insert a link to a file at a specific point in a post, Discourse will do that correctly. The only, and minor, problem is that the cursor will be placed at the end of the text, and the viewport may or may not be scrolled down.

Improved UX for external quotes

@erlend_sh wrote:

Currently when I'm quoting a post from a different topic, it looks nearly identical to quotes from within the same topic:

I think external quotes should be more similar to the embed you get from a single-line topic link, more like this:

I simply added an "in" after the post author and then include the topic title.

(slightly confusing example since the top-most quote is technically also an external one, but manually added. That was mere coincidence so please disregard it)

Regression: No longer able to Reply as linked topic via quote

@erlend_sh wrote:

I noticed that I'm no longer able to do the following in a closed topic:

 1. Highlight a sentence
 2. Click "Reply as linked topic
 3. Open a "New Topic" editor with my quote included.

Instead, this happens:

 1. Highlight a sentence
 2. Click "Reply as linked topic
 3. Page is refreshed.

I'm also unable to:

 1. Reply as new topic
 2. Highlight a sentence
 3. Click "quote reply" to include it in my editor

What happens instead:

 1. Reply as new topic
 2. Highlight a sentence
 3. Nothing happens when I click "quote reply".

(Mods please remember to test on an unprivileged account :stuck_out_tongue: )

p.s. I could not reproduce this on my own v1.4 stable forum. Can't test on Try yet because no closed topics there.

Adding two additional fields to user export

@alefattorini wrote:

I'm used to exporting users list for the statistic purpose, post_count and read_count are great but I miss two useful data:
Last seen date and last post date

With such info I can:

 • reach out members who aren't around for a while (where are you ending up?)
 • a good post count it's valuable for a member but if your last post is months ago, this data loses its significance.

What about?
