Emoji auto-complete seems broken now - it just says "more..." and :) translates to :slightly_smiling: which doesn't turn into an actual emoji. I'm on v1.5.0.beta7 +38 (latest version at the time of writing this)...

It seems meta.discourse.org has the same problem? :slightly_smiling:

I have lightly experimented with discourse on some of my other web projects over the past year and am looking for an expert to help me perfectly install, manage, and brainstorm a large geo domain discourse development. I don't want to publicly list the domain here but think something similar to Montana.com , BritishColumbia.com etc...

Please PM me or leave your Skype in a comment if this is something you would like to work on.

Making topics more visible to search engines

@platinum wrote:

Hello,

I noticed there was some discussion here about how in a default configuration, much of the content on a discourse site will be set to "nofollow," i.e. invisible to search engines, except as it pertains to the most trustworthy users on that site.

Would it be possible to clarify some more exactly how this default "nofollow" configuration is set "out of the box," specifically what content is set to nofollow (is it all content in all topics, or just links?) and how we can adjust the sensitivity of the nofollow settings?

Really appreciate it. Thanks!!

As a manager of our forums, (and also feedback from our moderators), it would be so great to be able to search for "unsolved" questions.

Is there perhaps search criteria to eliminate topics that were already marked as solved?

Create Badges only visible to specific groups

@tobiaseigen wrote:

I want to create a badge to celebrate staff who participate in an end-of-year holiday celebration topic. These people are all in a group giving them access to internal, private categories. I don't want this badge to show up to the public or to anyone else.

Looking at the badge settings and examples, I can see how to assign a badge to people who participate in a topic, but I don't see any way to show it only to a specific group.

I can see this being a useful addition all around - e.g. for staff to monitor certain things about members and for encouraging participation on the group and category level.

Filter by subcategory and tag does not work properly

@jomaxro wrote:

Summary:

When attempting to filter Discourse by both a subcategory and a tag, topics that have the requested tag appear even if they are not in the subcategory specified.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a category with at least one subcategory.
  2. Create a tag, and use it on multiple threads, in different categories
  3. Filter the view by category, then subcategory, and finally by tag.

Expected Results:

Only topics that have the tag requested AND that appear in the subcategory are listed.

Actual Results:

Other topics with the tag are listed in the view.

Notes:

It appears that only topics within the same category show up. To explain, let's say you have category A, with subcategories (of A) B, C, and D. You also have category Z (not under A). If you filter by category B (and a tag) you will see results from B, as well as A, C, and D. It does not appear that topics with the tag from category Z will show up.

Attachments:

Filter used:

URL of filter: http://discourse.stonehearth.net/tags/c/support/bug-reports/building. If you scroll down, you will see topics from the Performance subcategory, and the support category listed, but not Suggestions or General Discussion (remove category filter to see these).

Versions and Mods:

Discourse 1.5.0.beta7 (discourse.stonehearth.net)

System Information:

Windows 10 Pro, Chrome Stable 47

Unable to create new topic when filtering by category and tag

@jomaxro wrote:

Summary:

Unable to create a new topic when the view is filtered by category and tag.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Filter the view by category, then subcategory, and finally by tag.
  2. Click New Topic

Expected Results:

Composer window opens.

Actual Results:

Dialog box appears with error message:

The page at discourse.stonehearth.net says:

composer was opened without a draft key

Notes:

This appears to happen regardless of whether the filter is set to a subcategory or a category, and does not care if a topic template is set.

Attachments:

Filter used:

Dialog that appears:

URL of filter: http://discourse.stonehearth.net/tags/c/support/bug-reports/building.

Versions and Mods:

Discourse 1.5.0.beta7 (discourse.stonehearth.net)

System Information:

Windows 10 Pro, Chrome Stable 47

Update: Upon further testing, if you switch to another category and remove the tag filter, you are able to create a new topic. However, if you attempt to filter by tag again, the composer will open, but will list the wrong category.
Below is a screenshot of the composer opened from the Bug Reports subcategory, with the Suggestions category selected in the composer.

Formatting problem when importing Github pages posts (embedded Discourse)

@oblio wrote:

Hi folks,

I'm having a problem with broken formatting when importing posts from my blog in the forum.

Example:

The huge images are related to: https://meta.discourse.org/t/emoji-are-huge-when-embedding/32634, which should be fixed.

However, look at the "Honorable mentions" section. It should be a Markdown table but it's all garbled up.

Also, after "If you want to read the rest of the articles, here is the full list:" there should be an unordered list of links. Which is gone from the import.

Does the import only take headers, paragraphs, links and images? Everything else seems to be gone :frowning:

For reference, this is how the article looked originally: http://hearthstone.oblio360.com/2015/11/19/hearthcraft-key-commons/

Steps to integrate Discourse to postgres running in AWS (for a non-dev)

@nontechie wrote:

I'm a non-techie trying to work on a small forum. Among all I liked Discourse the most due to it's next-gen style and features. Here are steps I took to install and run the app:

1) I'm running Discourse via Bitnami Cloud with host server on AWS.
2) I've a postgres server running on AWS as well

So far, my app is running well and I can configure it from admin panel. However, I'm unable to connect the app to my database. I tried updating app.rb and database.yml file but it didn't work.

I was wondering if there are some simple steps available to integrate it without needing help from a developer?

Thanks
