Alias username and group mentioning

@Konstantin_Ladutenko wrote:

Hi!

Thank you for Discourse, it is really nice to use.

Is it possible to create an alias username? So that @ mentioning of two (or more) names will notify only one real user? So I can use different names for official posting and private comments without messing up with multiple accounts.

Another nice feature can be a collective (group) name, e.g. @help or @support. It should notify a group of users, with an access to the conversation history and, probably, if some user from the group answered to the post with @help mentioning simply mark this notification to be read (or delete it) for other group users.

Best regards,
Kostya

What are Topic Templates?

0
0

@erlend_sh wrote:

Topic templates are a useful tool to reinforce forum conventions or to guide new users.

Category-specific topic template

Some categories might follow a strict pattern. One such example would be a Movies category, wherein you'd like users to start new topics according to a certain template:

I saw: insert movie title

I think it was worth: how many stars out of 4 stars

Review here:

To apply this template to all new topics posted in this category, go to a category, click "Edit" and find "Topic Template" in the top menu.

You can see a live example of this if you register on our Try sandbox forum and post a new topic to the Movies category.

Pre-fill topic by URL

It's also possible to create URL that, when clicked, will open a pre-filled topic. To compose a new pre-filled topic, modify URL params like this:

http://discourse.example.com/new-topic?title=topic%20title&body=topic%20body&category=category/subcategory

This will open composer window pre filled with topic title, body and desired category.

This can also be tested live on try.discourse.org:

https://try.discourse.org/new-topic?title=topic%20title&body=topic%20body&category=discourse

Also, instead of providing category/subcategory name, you can also specify category_id, like:

https://try.discourse.org/new-topic?title=topic%20title&body=topic%20body&category_id=11

Note that if both category_id and category is passed as param then priority is given to category_id.

Hamburger button broken on Firefox for Android (Mobile web browser)

@JBert wrote:

I happened to be surfing to meta.discourse on my mobile phone which runs Firefox for Android.

The hamburger menu button is present but pressing it appears to do nothing (I had it open the menu once when playing with the "Request Desktop Site" option).

Browsing using the "classic" version of Firefox on my PC does not appear to have any problems.

EDIT: Hang on, it seems like it might work when I'm not logged in, I found this out when trying to reproduce it on the Atom forums where my cookie must have expired. I'm going to do some extra investigations. EDIT 2: See below.

Onebox and topic titles

@rockylhotka wrote:

Is there a way to have a single link post (a post with just one link) that is Oneboxed set the title of the topic automatically?

I do a lot of link posting in our current yammer forum, and all I need to do is paste the link, let it create the preview, and then I'm done.

At least right now it appears that Discourse will sometimes create the preview (much more limited than yammer?) and then I need to manually copy-paste the title from the link target into the Discourse topic title?

There is a summarize feature in the topics starter post, however, it is rather unclear how it works. Probably a button "Show most liked post first" can a good companion to it. At the moment, it looks rather hard to find out fast the essence the long topic.

Customising Discourse to my liking

@arrancscott wrote:

Hi,

I've read on a few topics that it's strongly advised against editing the core code.

I'm running into an issue straight away and I want to do things the correct way rather than just hacking my way through it.

A couple of examples:

I want to add another button under the 'Message' button when viewing a users profile - do I create a new plugin that just adds the button? Do I create a connector and inject it through an already existing plugin outlet?

I also want to remove the collapsible profile top bar, so for that I know I can just remove the 'collapsed-info' class but that feels dirty.

What are my options?

Cheers

Archiving post should remove item from all notifications

@carlokok wrote:

It would be really cool if archiving a post would remove it from the notification list others have. As far as I know archiving pretty much makes it done. But other users still have a notification for it.

Usecase: group message used for support; Archiving pretty much makes it "dealt with" and so there's no point for other people from the group to look at it.

Emojis in titles?

@charleswalter wrote:

Our members like to use emoji, and I've noticed that sometimes on the lists I see large amounts of whitespace. Turns out the list view does not render the emojis that the user entered in the subject.

Anyone know if these are supported characters? Thought it was interesting that they can render in post view, but not on the subject, even though the input allows it.

Server Error with Google OAuth2 login

@gyuwon wrote:

Hi, I'm also having the problem with Google OAuth2.

The result of Google login is 'Server Error' as below.

I have checked the settings of Google's side.

  1. Client ID and Secret

  2. Authorized JavaScript origins: https://deeplearningkorea.com

  3. Authorized redirect URIs: https://deeplearningkorea.com/auth/google_oauth2/callback

  4. Email and Product name on OAuth consent screen

  5. Domain verification

  6. Google+ API and Contacts API enabled

And there is an error message in /shared/log/production.log file,

Completed 200 OK in 1ms (Views: 0.3ms | ActiveRecord: 0.0ms)
Started GET "/auth/google_oauth2" for _MYIP_ at 2016-01-22 10:50:52 +0000

JWT::InvalidIatError (Invalid iat)
/var/www/discourse/vendor/bundle/ruby/2.0.0/gems/jwt-1.5.2/lib/jwt.rb:170:in `decode'

However both Facebook and Twitter login work fine.

I have tried it https://meta.discourse.org/t/invalid-redirect-uri-in-google-oauth2-api-call-http-instead-of-https/18105/3?u=gyuwon, but not working for me.

In addition, I revoked new token from Google and tested it several times.

What should I do for fixing it?
FYI, Discourse version is v1.5.0.beta8 +150, and Docker version is 1.9.1.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, we plan to launch a private discourse community for our clients

We need someone who can give us monthly support (like configuration, minor customizations, plugin installs...)

Note: when you google "wordpress support services" you can see lot of websites offering this service. But try "discourse support services" and there are no results! :disappointed:

We know there is support here in meta.discourse, but we need more personal and professional support...

If you know someone please tell us...Thanks!

SMTP usernames with backslash?

0
0

@Knud wrote:

Dear all,

I'm trying to set up Discourse on a virtual server. I can use the organisation's SMTP-server for mail, so that is fine and I got everything set-up, except for one proplem: no emails are being sent. I then created an admin account with

./launcher enter app
rake admin:create

which nicely worked, and then looked at the mail setting. There I found the likely reason that no emails are being sent: my SMTP username is of the form "foo\bar", where "foo" is a given prefix for a subgroup of users on that system, and "bar" is my account name. Then there is the backslash in between.

When I look at the /admin/email page in my Discourse installation, what I get shown as user_name is "foobar" without the backslash. I then tried escaping in app.yml, after looking up YAML syntax.

I tried:

DISCOURSE_SMTP_USER_NAME: foo\bar
DISCOURSE_SMTP_USER_NAME: 'foo\bar'
DISCOURSE_SMTP_USER_NAME: "foo\\bar"
DISCOURSE_SMTP_USER_NAME: foo\\bar

All give the same result (after rebuilding Discourse every time): user_name: foobar

I don't know where the backslash might get stripped. I saw no warning on special characters but the escaping I tried did not result in a change at Discourse installation level. I tried sending an email every time after rebuild (from the /admin/email page) but I always receive an error when sending.

Can someone help, please?
