How to hold/queue anonymous incoming email posts?

Is there any easy way to send all incoming emails that don't match an existing account to the "Needs Approval" moderator queue?

Scenario: Restricted-view feedback category that is associated with a general feedback@example.org address to allow "anonymous" feedback. As one can imagine, it gets quite a bit of spam, but admins would like to ensure they don't miss something valuable.

Right now those posts come in as the system user, so not sure that we could set it up as a simple "new user" restriction.

Moderation Tools

Hi,

For user interface i really love discourse.

There are a few situations where I would appreciate a more robust set of modding tools.

When a user flags a post it would be handy as a mod to have a reply option to the flagger that would reference the flag so they know what I am talking about. As an example I sent this message out this am. It would be handy to have been able to generate a response to the flag straight from the flag notification page. I would also love to see a bcc option so that when I am generating a pm to a user and want my team to be in on the communication I could bcc it or generate a post in the moderation area that would keep the team appraised of activity. Other wise I am cutting and pasting to get the info spread around.

Hi,

Thank you for flagging this post. We count on members helping us stay on top of forum activity!

In this case we were aware of the hard sell post he left.

Forum policy is that so long as a commercial post such as this
relates directly and legitimately to the thread topic, it may stand.
After all anyone who doesn't like his stands can also post about it and
that sort of conversation is valuable to those considering stand
purchases.

Overuse or abuse will be dealt with differently in the case of any
commercial account, so your instinct to make sure we knew about this was
a good one. We don't want the forums to be spammed by commercial
vultures!

Regards,

Sara

UserName changes - History

We get quite a few users who want to change their names - over time. It would be nice if the system automatically kept track of these name changes so that we can remember who that person was before. It might even be something that is shown on the user's profile so that everyone can see it - though not by default (and not revealed to google / search engine bots).

The name changes are typically because people make a mistake, or realize later that they'd like something different (e.g. from their other screen names that they might use around the web - we're a medical site, so people realize after that its probably a good idea to have a different screen name that isn't trackable back to other sites.

I am using a dark theme for discourse the lovely forum platform which we all love :wink:

Using the code below to change the mentioned color.

a.mention,a.mention-group {
	padding:2px 4px;
	color:#000;
	background:#C0C0C0;
	border-radius:5px;
	font-weight:bold;
	font-size:.93em;
}

Is the correct way to change the mention color?

Hi -

I was editing some s3 settings in the discourse UI when our site went totally down. Here's the console output:

I checked the error log at /opt/bitnami/apache2/logs but it doesn't seem to help. Is there anywhere else I can look for info on this?

Thanks,

Disk space running low

I'm a newbie and so every other day or so I check the backups are working. I've got images and backups being stored on amazon s3.

I've noticed over the last couple of weeks (via the dashboard) my free space has dropped by 4GB (used to read 22GB free) and now reads as the following:

uploads 123 MB (18.2 GB free) backups 594 MB (18.2 GB free)

Where could all this space be disappearing to?

I do rebuild discourse every so often when adding or removing plugins but this has relatively calmed but surely it cant be taking up 4GB?...

sudo du -sh /var/discourse/
729M /var/discourse/

Switching Your Discourse from Mandrill to Mailgun

Discourse requires email to function, so we’ve always had a symbiotic relationship with third party email providers. In the past we’ve recommended Mandrill, we use it ourselves for some of our sites, and we’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Mandrill … until now. Mandrill announced on February 24th that they are essentially closing the Mandrill service…

How to pass a variable from a plugin's initializer to an .hbs file?

Continuing the discussion from Logging out dismisses notification count:

Once again we had a complaint that someone can't log out without dismissing notification count. This really stinks.

This is also a problem when impersonating a user, because you can't stop the impersonation session without dismissing their notifications without their permission.

Question: How can we add a log out link in a place that won't be so disruptive? :frowning:

I have a custom field for users when they register. The user enters an ID, in this case the ID represents their job. Is there anyway to write a plugin that displays that custom field alongside the users screen name? Can we hack discourse to that extent? I don't need a step by step just some light shines on a starting point. The end result would be a simple GET request to an API that returns the title associated with that ID...but for now I just want to get it displayed.

How can I delete or undelete topics?

@alehandrof wrote:

I used the embedded feature to tie together a blog with my forum. While testing I deleted all those posts. Now that I'm trying to re-create the integration I realised that deleting posts just don't actually delete them, it just hides them. So, now the integration is broken because users don't have access to them.

How can I:

  • Really delete the topics so that the embedding can re-create them?
  • OR find a list of all the "deleted" posts so that I can undelete them?

The problem is when I am trying to upload large image, there is no information regarding the file size limit of uploaded image. Please take a look at following screenshot

In my country the internet connection is very bad, the upload speed is very slow, so if I'm trying to upload 10MB image, it could take 2-3 minutes to complete, then Discourse give me the error alert when the uploading is finished :frowning:

I've checked the code that Discourse optimize the uploaded image until reach SiteSetting.max_image_size_kb value, otherwise it can't save the image

Any idea how this could be solved?
Actually I would like to send pull request to add more message on each instructions, but I'm not convince that it will be accepted

@DoMiN8ToR wrote:

I'm trying to customize the template where the avatar is shown. I'm able to overwrite many other templates, but for some reason post/poster-avatar.raw doesn't work for me.

I tried e.g. the following code and tried to add it in "before /head" and in "header" and it simply doesn't appear.

<script type='text/x-handlebars' data-template-name='post/poster-avatar.raw'>
  <h1>LOL</h1>
</script>

Any ideas?

I would also like to add some text to the template where the username, full name and usergroup is displayed but can't find the correct template, could someone point me into the right direction?
