I got an email reply 20h ago saying that a topic created by me was no longer accessible:

Funnily enough, I could not open that very same topic I got the email message from (it is still accessible via Google Cache: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dRy5lu-ExW8J:https://meta.discourse.org/t/kitematic-a-potentially-super-easy-way-to-test-run-discourse-on-mac/26430+&cd=1&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de). Replying to that email gave me an "Your reply was sent from a different email address than the one we expected" error (first time correctly, second time I used the correct address).

I also noticed that I was granted an „out of love“ badge also 20h ago although I wasn’t even on meta for a couple of days (around the same time @codinghorror and a couple of others got his) … don't know if this is in any way related. However, there seem to be one or more hickups recently.

Any idea what's going on here @mpalmer ?

How to fix a mistake after moving posts to a new topic

@cageycat wrote:

I have some editing rights (but I'm not in charge) on the Discourse Forum where I participate.

I marked some posts to move...skipped a few...and marked others below that. All the ones I needed were marked. I moved the lot. Then, noticed the 1st marked post and its replies did not move. I went back and moved those over, expecting they would list themselves in date-time order. They did not.

So how can I fix my mistake, so that Post 1 is back in 1st position?

And, is is wrong to skip posts when attempting to move a group of posts to a new topic?

Thank you.

Romanian pluralization rules are wrong

@iamntz wrote:

Hey guys.

I noticed (the hard way...) that translating numbers is a bit off. The expectation was „enforced” by transifex's one/few/other for cases that contain numbers to behave in a certain way. At least in romanian, we have this rules:

  • for one item is obvious;
  • for up to 20 items, it's also ok (e.g.: 19 items);
  • over 20 items it's an extra particle (e.g. 21 of items ).

Anyhow, I marched on the idea that this was implemented and updated quite a few strings to act accordingly. After the update? Surprise! Only „one” and „other” cases are used, leaving me with awkward translations :slight_smile:

This can be changed? Or can transifex be configured to not show the redundant one? (because you cannot save a translation that doesn't have all three translation)

Upgrading Discourse on Synology DSM 6.0 w/ Docker

Hi, how can i update the Discourse App on my Synology DSM 6.0?
The version that is installed by default is v1.2.1 from their package center.

The system does run docker for the package but when i try to navagate to the /admin/upgrade path it tells me that the page does not exist.

Also the SSH commands do not appear to work either.

I tried to follow the following article:
How Do you Update Discourse

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Brad.

Deploying Admin Settings From Staging to Production

@everaldo wrote:

Hi guys.

It's my first topic. Sorry if I'm posting on the wrong place.
Also, I've made some research, but I couldn't find a topic that fully answer my doubts. Here we go...

I work from a company that chose Discourse as a community platform.

They want to have two different environments: staging and production.

On staging, we devs make changes on CSS, Categories, Permissions etc.

On production, the client make posts, new users register etc.

Also, we are using Single Sign On.

We need to set a workflow to deploy settings from staging to production, without breaking the application or accidentally removing topics, users or category (losing content).

Can anyone, please, help me find information on how to export admin settings without breaking the other server (for instance, hostname will be different, SSO credentials too. This sort of thing).

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Everaldo Gomes

Hello,

I'm not sure if there is already a topic for this. I use the Hopscotch forums, powered by Discourse. This bug randomly occurs, and what happens is if you try to tap a topic on a mobile device, it won't open. I'd end up either refreshing the webpage or opening it in a new tab by pressing it, which is the Apple equivalent of right-clicking.

I am on an iPad Air generation 1, and it seems that this only happens on mobile devices from what we've discussed back at the Hopscotch forums.

Unofficial Changes 1.5beta13 to 1.5beta14

For those of us running beta, it can be difficult to keep up with all of the changes from one beta to the next. I read through the commits from beta13 to bete14 and pulled out what seemed to me some of the things you might want to know about. It's a wiki so people can add (or fix) things that I point out.

I couldn't quite figure what category this belonged in.

Unofficial Changes 1.5beta13 to 1.5beta14

  • Upgrade Rails to 4.2.6

  • radically simplify our mobile user agent detection (User agent includes "Mobile", except for iPads)

  • Lots of stuff around limits in emails and mailing list mode. Turns out mail is hard.

    • FEATURE: limit daily emails per user to 100 per day via site setting
    • FEATURE: warn about mailing list mode if it is checked
    • FEATURE: site setting for suppressing categories from digest email
  • Group posts and mentions RSS (e.g., https://HOST/groups/GROUPNAME/posts.rss)

  • add Let's Encrypt howto to install docs–next time your SSL cert needs renewing, you should check this out! (Let's Encrypt support was added in an earlier release.)

  • FEATURE: Warn a user when they have few likes remaining, (but not say to use them wisely)

  • Lots of UX tweaks

  • Lots more badge tweaks, e.g., UX: Show badges as cards on the badges index and show page

E-mail received messages marked as auto-generated

@bruno wrote:

Hello, I'm using a discourse installation in a small NGO, which was installed by a colleague, so I have admin access and have been configuring a few things but I'm not completely into the platform yet.

One issue that showed up recently is that there has been an increase in new messages marked as auto-generated. This happens in regular replies to open threads and new messages/threads. It doesn't happen all the time, but for example with my e-mail account it happens almost every time. How can I diagnose why the messages are classified as auto-generated even if the headers aren't present?

Thank you!

A user on our forums is getting the error "Website is invalid." when attempting to enter his website on his profile.

The url he is using is:

Perhaps the underscore in the sub-domain is triggering the error?

The version of Discourse that we are currently using is:

1.5.0.beta14

It seems this topic might be related:

Links aren't showing in the sidebar or topic summaries

For some reason, when I link to another topic in my Discourse installation, the links do not always show up in the sidebar or in the topic summary, as they seem to here on meta.

What is the intended behavior in this respect? Are all the links supposed to show up in the sidebar? Or only if it's a quote of another post (that particular scenario seems to work in my case)? Here on meta all the links seem to be in the sidebar...

Should I care about JavaScript errors in my logs?

I'm seeing many Javascript errors in the logs that are viewable via the admin panel in my installation. At that, the forum generally works well; it doesn't seem that anything in particular is broken.

All these errors are just from within a few hours; it's not that I've been collecting them for many days. :slight_smile:

Translations for v1.5

@neil wrote:

Version 1.5 is wrapping up!

We would appreciate it if our amazing community of translators could look at any pending translations in Transifex. I know some badge translations were recently moved around, so will need to be translated again.

Our plan for the stable branch:

  • pull the latest translations for the 1.5.0 release as usual
  • for about a week after the release, avoid making changes that affect translations
  • merge translations into stable again for the 1.5.1 release so any broken translations can be fixed

Thanks again to everyone who contributes to our translation efforts! :heart:
