Receive email for all posts and replies

Apparently they can't be bothered to actually use the forum :angry: :skull_crossbones:
Is there such a feature?
Closest I have seen would be to set all categories to 'watching'... would that do it?

Creating basic tests\exams with markdown?

@Denis_Didkovsky wrote:

We run small community in Russia for expert discussion on state property regulation based on Discourse.

there is a need to create online test\exams section on it(very much close to paper-based one). Instead of considering something like edx, we think on using some DS+plugin functionality just for that. Before hiring someone for developing that it would be good to have some insights on feasibility of such appproach.

We think about the following flow
1. Markdown implementation, allowing single choice and multiple choice is engabled by potential plugin, syntax might be close what edx is using (single option:

multiple options:

  1. then the test author creates the test template (with right answers), not visible to audience
  2. then the test is sent as identical wiki PMs to audience (manually, just by coping it)
  3. people take test by going through checking checkboxes.
  4. After deadline, author is checking the answers PMs one by one (potentially by using diff with template, so - its very much manual)

We wouldn't use something like poll plugin as it doesnt match to correct answers, basic additional markdown syntax sounds ok for such task. Any thoughts for such approach are very much appreciated.

Besides the markdown implementation there is also open question how to "lock" answers from authors after deadline.

We appreciate any feedback for that, many thanks.

Multisite scheduled backup is only running for one site

@brahn wrote:

I have 3 sites in a standalone multisite setup and recently noticed that only one of them is actually performing the scheduled backup.
There does not appear to be anything in the logs about the other sites failing to backup. The unicorn.stdout.log shows only the one site being backed up. A manual backup of all sites works fine.
It seems to have stopped working around the time I updated from 1.4 to 1.5 (on 1.6 now but no change).

Any ideas on how to diagnose this?

I'm getting a crazy high number of User Profile Views lately - and I'm wondering what it means. It used to be down in the low hundreds - but the past few weeks its been up around 10,000 per day. It seems like someone is hitting them way too hard - is there any easy way to see who it is, or block them?

Keyboard shortcuts for tracking topics not working

@BlackSheep wrote:

The keyboard shortcuts to manage the level of atention to a topic are not working for me, neither in firefox nor chrome.
The way I work with my discourse installation is: I enter a topic and if I am not interested I hit m+r, and move to another topic, but these days that I have been reading a lot here in meta, it is not working for me. And it is a pity because it is really comfortable to work with the keyboard shortcuts.

Other shortcuts that are not working for me are:

m+t to track the topic
m+r to watch the topic
m+wto normalize the level of atention
m+m to mute the topic

EDIT: Somehow the keyboard shortcuts are working for me in this topic, but not in the rest of topics :open_mouth:
EDIT2: I think keyboard shortcuts for tracking topics stop working the moment the vertical timeline appears, because in topics with 1 repply they do work for me.

  • the Replies column has 2 titles: on the cell and on the span;
  • the Views column has a title on the span element;
  • the Activity column has a title on the cell.

Maybe the distinction between a cell with a link and one without is wanted, but not two overlapping titles I guess. :slight_smile:

Thank you! :wink:

P.S.: these are details, but details matter.

How to easily unsubscribe a user from all emails?

0

@tkrunning wrote:

Hi guys! We have a Discourse installation using SSO, where users from our main site is automatically signed up to Discourse as well.

In the past we have mostly emailed our users from Mailchimp, so if someone reaches out and asks us to unsubscribe them from all emails we've just unsubscribed them there. Now, with emails going out from Discourse as well I've been looking for an easy way for me to manually unsubscribing a user from emails (not deleting their account).

I haven't been able to find a quick and easy method for this—am I missing something?

I've gone to https://teleport.org/community/users/USERNAME/preferences and unchecked all relevant boxes there, but there seems to be no option to absolutely never receive any emails again. I.e. we have digests/summary emails turned off globally. If I uncheck all options on someone's account (there's no option for digests now while disabled), and we later enable digests, will that user then start receiving digests?

Basically I'm looking for a similar option to the "Never receive emails from [Discourse name]" option that users have when clicking unsubscribe in an email from Discourse, but that can be enabled by me, the admin.

Thanks!

we are looking for an option / plugin / feature to get the same result as on https://www.elektronauts.com/news

Is there something that is available from discourse to realize that? How can we create such a page? The Styling is our part. We have the layouts.

Thanks in advance,

How my members see the site

I think it would be nice to add to the 'Impersonate' feature of the site.

I'm imagining a switch in the hamburger menu titled something like 'Turn off Admin view' that allows you to instantly see the site how a non-admin user sees it, without logging you out, and obviously without making that switch disappear.

Is this easily doable or would it be a lot of work?

EMail Verification with SSO

@Grex315 wrote:

Recently i have noticed that new users that register for my site are not able to verify their email address to create their account on the forums.

I am using Wordpress with the Latest version of the WP-Discourse plugin from the WP directory.

Steps taken:

User registers for site through wordpress and the account is created. They then go to the forums to login and are presented with the email verfiy screen when they click on the login in button.

The email they are getting has a very long unformated link to verfy their email with my wordpress site. The copy and paste the email into the broweser. A wp-login screen is presented saying login into to verify. This all works but when they go back to the forums it sill gives them the need to verify screen.

I made a test account to test for myself. Here is the email that is sent for email verify.

Username: Gtest To verify your email address, visit the following address: https://grimreapergamers.com/wp-login.php?action=login&mail_key=1470881304_XUwkZXYgHGvYjhIV8Jsk&error=emailnotverified&redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fgrimreapergamers.com%2F&login=Gtest https://grimreapergamers.com/wp-login.php

I dont see any link back to my forums at forums.grimreapergamers.com.

I also do not see this email in the log for sent emails from Discourse.

Hi.

I noticed that on my forum a user with user.has_trust_level?(TrustLevel[3]) == true has rel=nofollow on their links. For example:

When I call rebake! on the post, it does not have the "nofollow" but when I save it and reload it from the database, it does.

Honestly speaking, i cant think a use for this is any place other than a role play site, or perhaps an inter-business site in which one might be able to use these tabs to separate out topic relevant conversation on a project or something, but i would certainly appreciate if there was a way to do it.

Malformed URLs - missing trailing slash with root .community TLD

@rimian wrote:

I'm seeing a few URLs missing the trailing slash but I'm unable to identity where this is occurring.

This is one way that I can reproduce the error (hard to test!)

  1. Click on "unsubscribe" in the digest email.
  2. Click on the unsubscribe button

I expect to see a page with something on it but instead I see:

"This site can’t be reached"

and there is a missing forward slash between the URL and the path "email/unsubscribed"

If I click on other links in the email, it works fine. I'm using sendgrid which does a redirect but I'm unsure if the problem is a sendgrid setting or something in discourse.

I have heard reports of users seeing other similar errors but I'm not able to get any reliable info yet.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Much appreciated.
