I'm new to discourse,
Is it possible validate the login process by customized database information?
I have an original service with login/logout mechanism,
now I want to create a forum by discourse, and login/logout from the original service's user database
or what's the keyword to search in discourse forum
Thanks

When I insert a picture, discourse will automaticly choose a width*height for the picture, like the code below.
<img src="xxx.png" width="580" height="408">
But, if the width, height is not very good, I can change the numbers, like
<img src="xxx.png" width="580" height="920">
The problem is, such change will take effect on the first moment(about 500ms), then it automaticly changes back!!!(The code is still height=920, but the webpage showing still like height=408!!!)
And also, I want to know if there is a way to force zoom the picture while keeping the same width height ratio? You see if I just change the two numbers, the picture often seems to be not realistic.
How can I just force the width and height my self ?

I'm actually just looking for some good ideas on this -
I'm about to launch a new community, and so I've recently put up a splash page and have used one of Digital Ocean's floating IPs to connect to the splash page. This means that my discourse install is only accessible through it's own server's IP. This is fine, except the path to all of the images and uploaded content is still referencing my full domain, so all of these are temporarily broken until I reconnect the path.
This isn't a problem until I try to work on imagery on the site while the splash page is up (in the future it'll be a maintenance splash page). I've found some great references on here for how to bulk-correct the image content, but in this case, I'm curious if there's a way to set these to a local path, or IP that will work in all scenarios? Is that naive?
Thanks!
Keith

To my surprise, there are already some discussions on threading and it's seems like a genius way. I understand that the default discourse put post in chronological order and each post can display its child posts.
But I want something different.
Just like stack overflow or piazza, I would like user can reply to certain posts or reply to the original questions or simply read other replies . Of course, nested comments are not what I want. One level threading seems the most reasonable way.
Is it possible in discourse?

Images can't be enlarged if they're less than a site's thumbnail settings. I have two images -- the first one is ~1000x500, and the second one is ~500x100. I've scaled each one down so their width is 200 below:
I'm able to hover over the first one to enlarge it, while the second image doesn't allow me to do that because it's smaller than the site setting. Enlarging should be enabled whenever an embedded image is larger than the size it is in the post, as opposed to having to be over a certain size.

It would be great if the Topic Template UI also allowed automagically making first posts wiki posts.
Use Case
We Discourse for discussions ongoing project, people we are looking to hire, partnerships we are working on etc.
To make it quick for people to get up to speed on a discussion we use the first post in a topic to summarise the current state of project. So the post will contain a brief description of a project, plus a running summary of notable changes, removing the need to read the entire discussion history.
To do this the first post always needs to be a wiki post, so team members can update the summary on a regular basis.
The Advantages
Currently we rely on the first poster remembering to make the post a wiki entry, but it would be great if this could be automatic. Thus removing the need to chase down team members who forget to make their posts wiki entries.

I'd like to add Message button to the user card and profile of logged out user. The UX choices are as follows:
1/ hidden from the user
2/ visible but disabled
3/ visible but prompt for login/signupWe currently do 1. I'd prefer to do 3.
Users might need to contact a user for support, request access to a group, ask about a private matter, etc. A user might forget they are logged out so it's just confusing to change the interface. For new visitors, it encourages them to set up an account. It hopefully avoids users adding an email address to their profile page.
I don't think this hurts the goal to encourage public topics and replies. If the content is something that belongs in a private message, that's not the kind of content you want posted publicly.
We currently do this with logged out users for the reply button and likes.

I always have to comment "exit 1

On my osx chrome browser, I am able to select text to quote reply, but it doesn't work if I select text by triple clicking a paragraph.
to replicate:
- while reading a post, double click on a word you want to quote reply. it works and the quote reply link pops up!
- now triple click on the word to select the whole paragraph. It doesn't work and the quote reply goes away.
- now select a paragraph by mousing over it. It works!
A minor issue, but one that I keep noticing.

To help drive engagement, we were thinking of curating some posts that could include embedded tweets. Any thoughts on allowing a twitter url for a tweet to be interpreted with the Twitter embed code? Or perhaps other ideas of how we could support the integration of content from Twitter?

Hi
I think this may have happened at an upgrade point but either way - i've just got a 502 Bat Gateway error. I've looked at similar posts and it looks like I might need a rebuild or to reinstall Docker? Or both?
I'm a complete newbie using the command lines / Putty (sorry) so any step by step help would be very much appreciated! It was all working fine prior to this. It's been installed with Digital Ocean.

I'm trying to understand the heuristics used to determine the "top" posts, mostly because I want to use them to auto-propagate into tiles at my header. However, as the community hasn't launched yet, I seem to be having a hard time getting something to appear in the "top" filter.
My initial instinct tells me that if there are no other topics being called "top" any of my latest should automatically get that description. However, I clearly don't understand what's being used to hit that state. Can anyone shed some light on it for me? Is there a way I can make it accept the last few topics if nothing else qualifies?
Thanks!
