I'm trying to setup Mailgun (to get rid of that pesky warning about using gmail) and I'm having more trouble than I probably should. I'm trying to follow this guide.
I've got Mailgun setup, and I've set the DNS records at Namecheap. They've propagated and the "Check DNS Records Now" button on my Mailgun dashboard has verified that everything is correct. I left out the DNS Records for Receiving, because I have catch-all forwarding setup at Namecheap.
However, now my email forwarding is broken. I contacted Namecheap support, and they said I couldn't use their email forwarding with Mailgun. That doesn't sound right, but okay, I'm fine with doing the forwarding from Mailgun. So I setup a catch-all forward in the Routes section of Mailgun. But I'm still not getting any email forwards.
I gather this is because I originally left out the DNS Records for Receiving on Mailgun (which means that forwarding from Namecheap should still work...). Now that I'm looking at that setting, it's telling me to setup MX
records for forum.MyDomain.com
. But I want to send and receive emails from MyDomain.com
without the forum.
subdomain.
But oh well, I set the DNS records for forum.MyDomain.com
on Namecheap, and Mailgun says they're set correctly. But I'm still not getting email forwards if I send a test email to kevin@MyDomain.com
or kevin@forum.MyDomain.com
.
(The email address I'm using to send the test emails is on a completely separate domain, so it's not the issue of sending emails from the address being forwarded to.)
I'm just generally confused. I want to be able to forward emails sent to whatever@MyDomain.com
to my personal account, and I'd like to use Mailgun to send emails from the forum. I'd like those emails to be sent from an @MyDomain.com
account, not an @forum.MyDomain.com
account. But even so, shouldn't my current settings be forwarding stuff sent to kevin@forum.MyDomain.com
correctly?
I'm sure at least one of my assumptions is incorrect. I figure that somebody out there has the setup I'm looking for, and I appreciate any pointers on what I'm doing wrong.
Edit: Okay, emails to @forum.MyDomain.com
work correctly (it just took a while to forward). But I'd still like to maintain forwards through @MyDomain.com
. Is this possible? What am I missing?
