Hello friends,

I'm using this feature currently very often for learning guides. It would be much easier for me to have some shortcut for wrapping the answers.

Any idea for a good workaround?

Thanks!

Permissions for custom groups

Please corect me if I am just not seeing the option.

So let's say I want some users to approve newcommers, just approve accounts, or I want someone to manage users and add badges. I just cannot do that without giving them power to delete whole forum content, they could just click delete all and its gone.

So my usecase is to create platform for our gaming clan, new recruits would create account, recruitment officer will approve it and allow acces to some forums (recruit badge or sth). After proving himself the recruit will recieve member badge and can acces some other parts of forum create new events for example. I just cannot do this with discourse. It looks like such a powerfull tool but it has so simple permission system (can do everything, and can do anything except change global forum settings) Is this even a planned feature ? Am I off here or its just meant that staff should all have the same permission and can do anything ?

Discourse + VestaCP

@hnaseri wrote:

I have found two topics, first and second, about installing discourse alongside VestaCP control panel; but in both of them, the issue seems to have not been solved, or at least it's not posted.

I have followed these steps:

1- installed discourse on a fresh Ubuntu 14 according to the 30 minutes installation guide.

2- Did
cd /var/discourse
./launcher stop app

according to this guide.

3- Installed VestaCP.

4- Changed the container definition and created discourse.conf file according to the mentioned guide.

5- restart nginx and rebuilt the app.

However It sounds like something is wrong and I can't access my discourse forum at talk.zabanshenas.com .

I really like VestaCP and I had a great experience with it. So any help to solve this problem would be so much appreciated.

Installing Discourse on Apache/Centos 7

New to this. I currently have a vps on a 4core running apache/centos thru cpanel.

I have multiple sites thru there and one site has my vbulletin forum. On the same site I have wordpress. Traffic is at 600k a month to site but activity is low.

What i would like to do is create it on a subforum until I can get it where I like it, import the vbulletin and switch at a later date. Is this possible or what would be the best recommended way? I dont want my main site going down and trying to find the easiest way to do this.

I do need a native app and currently tapatalk for my users so that will remain a reason not to fully switch unless thats supported.

Ace Editor Not Saving

Good Day!
We're having a relatively regular reoccuring issue with the Ace Editor when attempting to save CSS changes.

It looks very similar to: https://meta.discourse.org/t/code-in-customize-section-not-saving/28750/6

Any ideas on resolutions? Our Mac using folks (the designers) are not able to update the CSS at all. :frowning:

There was talk about upgrading to Monaco (https://meta.discourse.org/t/switch-to-monaco-editor-from-ace-editor/46099) but I doubt that's a trivial change.

Thanks in advance.

Allow registrations of components as plugin outlets

@sam wrote:

I am hitting an issue extending outlets in solved.

At the moment in core we have:

<ul>
    <li>{{#link-to 'userActivity.likesGiven'}}Likes Given{{/link-to}}</li>
   ...
   {{plugin-outlet "user-activity-bottom"}}
</ul>

Which we can easily change to:

<ul>
    <li>{{#link-to 'userActivity.likesGiven'}}Likes Given{{/link-to}}</li>
   ...
   {{plugin-outlet "user-activity-bottom" tagName='li'}}
</ul>

This helps somewhat as the outlets will be injected as LI elements but has a big flaw.

For my case I only want to show the "solved" link IF the user has more than 1 solution. However our current design allows no control over the "wrapping" element, nor no way to conditionally render.

@eviltrout perhaps we should allow components for plugin-outlets as well, eg:

export default Em.Component({
   pluginOutlet: 'user-activity-bottom'
})

Then when we sweep through outlets we can either render a templates or explicitly defined components?

User Canot Reset Password in Forum

How do I extend a built-in nested route in Ember?

$

@sam wrote:

Mainly a question for @eviltrout

I am trying to extend some of the internal routes for the solved plugin.

I tried adding assets/javascripts/discourse/solved-route-map.js with:

export default function() {
  this.route('user', { resetNamespace: true, path: '/users/:username'} , function() {
    this.route('userActivity', { resetNamespace: true, path: 'user-activity' } , function() {
      this.route('solved');
    });
  });
};

Trouble is that it blows away the existing routes and pretty much breaks everything, I also tries with resource using the other mechanism but it does not play nice with nested routes.

Any idea how I would go about doing this?

Using Digital Ocean one click app. I setup mail and tested SPF Text Record and DKIM Record are fine using Sparkpost.com. Showed everything fine.

Initially I tried mailgun- showed my domain disabled from the start even when verified.
I tried mailjet- locked my account for verification says 2 days.
Sendgrid has no free version to try. Not wanting to pay for it and it locks account or doesnt work.

I followed thru everything on putty just fine.

Get this: Thanks! Discourse has now been configured. Create an account via the web interface for the email address xxxx@xxxx.io to continue.
root@discourse#

Looks good when i go to the site. Attempt to create account with that email under user admin and it doesnt allow it. Create account with different username instead.

`

You're almost done! We sent an activation mail to xxxxx@xxxx.io. Please follow the instructions in the email to activate your account.

If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, or try to log in again to send another activation mail.
`

and nothing. i try to sign in again and resend the acitivation email and still nothing. Under sparkpost summary i get targeted to that .io domain 2 times which is what it should be but see nothing whatsoever. How can I check this?

Anonymous posting/private messaging

@cbella wrote:

Hi guys

I'm the digital PM for a cancer support charity that works with 0-24 year olds and we have an obligation to safeguard our service users, particularly those under 21. I've been reading up on threads about anon posting and I tested it out myself on our staging platform of Discourse which we are setting up to support young people with cancer (16-25) and a separate one for significant others of those young people.

Although I think it's great you have this feature I feel that there are significant flaws when it comes to safeguarding and usability.

We already have a forum up and running for 16-25 year olds but we wanted to move to your system should it provide what we already have in the way of features. Overall I think that Discourse can do the majority of what we wish a forum to do but with a few exceptions described below:

  1. Posting anonymously - when a user posts anon on Discourse we as admins are unable to see who that user was. If a user is posting about having suicidal thoughts or abuse then we need to contact their social worker immediately, we are unable to do that currently on your platform.

  2. We want our service users to open up and talk to one another on the forum. In a recent survey we ran, 46% of our current members said that the anonymous feature we provide on our bespoke platform was important to them, without it they wouldn't open up to their peers and our forum would not be as active. However to enable users to post anon on your site requires a bit of thought by navigating to the anon icon in the profile avatar to switch this feature on or off. I can imagine many of our users simply won't think to go to that part of the site to post their message anonymously and will simply presume it's not a feature that's available and therefore not post what's on their mind. Additionally I can imagine if they do figure out how to turn the feature on they might also forget to turn it off.

Would it be better in terms of UX to simply have a tick box at the create message stage so the user can post anonymously?

  1. In a similar vein to the above, our members in the same survey said they would love a space to message each other privately. However, again due to safeguarding, as admins we would need access to these messages if abuse, suicidal thoughts and even grooming etc were flagged, but I can't see a way to view these messages in the admin area of Discourse.

  2. Finally, we run regular Ask the Expert sessions which require messages which include the topic hashtag e.g. #moodexpert to automatically be hidden until the expert answers the message (can be up to 24 hours), do you have this feature, or something similar, already?

I realise this is lengthy and I thank you in advance for your help.

Ember Inspector Can't See View Tree / Ember Inspector Version Issues

$

@jamesmarkcook wrote:

I noticed this morning that I could no longer see the full View Tree in my Ember inspector. Instead I just saw this:

Obviously the first thing I did was check whether it was my dev environment or my browsers. I installed the latest Ember Inspector in both Chrome and Firefox and used it on a fresh instance of Discourse. The problem persisted.

I then tracked it down to this commit updating Ember that was causing the issues for me.

I still suspect though that it's an issue with my Ember Inspector not updating correctly. Chrome tells me I have version 2.0.4 installed:

However, when I click Info on my Ember Inspector I see version 1.10.0 which may explain the issues.

Firefox also reports version 1.10.0 even though I installed the latest version on Firefox for the first time today.

Stupid question, but these are definitely talking about the same Ember Inspector aren't they?

Has anyone else run into this issue?

Hi there,

I use the "unanswered" button on my forum (), and it has stopped working. I noticed the glitch on November 18, which is when I switched the forum's "home" view to "categories with featured topics". "Latest" and "top" buttons still function as expected.

Advice on how to fix it?

Thanks,
