Changing timestamp of thread replies - Easier way?

@Brentnauer wrote:

I see that there's now a way to change the thread's timestamp through the UI and that it does a relative timestamp update for all following posts. That's awesome!

However, I'm looking for a way to specify a timestamp for replies WITHIN a topic. I'm wanting to do an archival/restoration project for an old forum that's since been deleted and will be manually pulling post text from Archive.org. Having to muck around in the CLI is going to make using Discourse unfeasible.

Is there any way to extend that functionality to subsequent replies within a thread, or at least a way to make mucking around in the CLI not such a tedious project? Hoping there's something easier than the last time I checked: https://meta.discourse.org/t/editing-post-date/19506

Admin Plugin page is blank - Error: There is no route named adminPlugins.index

Hello!

I just upgraded via shell on a DigitalOcean installation with 8GB a Discourse forum. All is working fine, with the exception of the plugin area in the Administration panel, which is entirely blank.

If I go to admin/upgrade, the list loads fine, instead.

I see this error in Firebug coming from a js file:

Error: There is no route named adminPlugins.index
http://mydomainhere/assets/ember_jquery-37ec8949e7219a8c2b3cdebef9d43bc64a66860ec196f3e10bea842d0296256f.js

Tried to search in the forums for the same issue but I could not find anything.

I attempted multiple rebuilds and disabled plugins, without luck.

Thanks!

Force https for login URL

I am testing out embedded comments in a grav blog (see https://meta.discourse.org/t/embedding-discourse-comments-via-javascript/31963).
However, I am having a problem with the embed URL redirecting to the discourse login url over http instead of https.

I am running the latest discourse (docker install) on port 20090 and reverse proxying with apache2 to get the site as https.
This works well but discourse is serving internal links that map to http instead of https.
This causes a problem with embedding in an https page because browsers recognise it as insecure content.

Is there a way to force all discourse URLs to be https? I have seen the use_https setting but I'm not sure where I would put this in the config.

Also, is it possible to turn a private forum (configured in the setup) back into a public forum that doesn't require login to see forums?

National flags indicating home country of each user?

One thing we had on our old (home made) forum was little flags showing where each user is from. We have members from all over the world, so that is now our #1 most requested feature on Discourse.

Would this be hard to implement? Best place for it would probably be the user card.

Thanks,

Split e-mail rate limit between notification and mailing-list mode

@vchuravy wrote:

I just got a report from a user who is using discourse primarily via the "mailing list" mode, that he had hit the 100 e-mails per day limit.

From my understanding the setting max emails per day per user applies to all e-mails that discourse sends out. Would it be possible to split that setting into max notification emails per day per user and max mailing list emails per day per user? For the latter category I would like to make it unlimited (to be as close as possible to the mailing list use-case), and for users who primarily use the web frontend a limit of 100 e-mails seems sensible.

in our forum the "must approve user" is active. is it the reason for invisibility of invite button?

Moderator question

@JagWaugh wrote:

Is there a simple way, via the GUI interface, to search for all users who are using digest mode?

As a mod, it would be nice to be able to search for users who are using digest mode, narrow that down to a category, then sort the resulting list based on most active account?

To be concrete, I am a mod on a large forum which very recently migrated to Discourse. The users are getting used to it, but some are taking a while to find their feet.

One of the users asked for instructions on how to set up digest mode. What I would like to do is find users who are already using digest, with that category enabled (the way our forum has always been the chances are the users will already be familiar with each other if they hang around the same category), Once I can find a list of such users I can (gently) suggest that they help the person in question, preferably by public discussion.

SketchFab Embedding Issue

$

@RobMeade wrote:

Hi,

I wasn't entirely certain where to turn for this one, so I thought I would ask here to see if anyone else is experiencing any problems.

I am a moderator on a hosted Discourse forum (https://community.gamedev.tv) and SketchFab was enabled so that users could simply paste in the full URL from that website and their 3D models would be embedded within the Discourse posts. It had been working really well for ages, you could zoom in/out, spin the 3D model around without having to leave the forum - fab.

It just recently when I noticed that someone had posted and it wasn't working, instead adding a kind of thumbnail of the 3D model, some text and a link to the SketchFab site to view it. I knew that it was possible to not get the desired result if there wasn't a blank line above and below the pasted URL, and also knew that there mustn't be any other text on the line with the URL, so I went and checked, but this didn't resolve the issue.

What is more confusing is that previous posts where this was applied are working perfectly well, but if I take a URL from SketchFab and try it in a new post I seem to get mixed results.

I am not an Administrator on the forum in question so have limited access to settings, although have posted hoping someone may be able to check, I believe it isn't much more than a whitelist entry for the domain and maybe a plugin though?

I am also not a 3D modeller and do not use the SketchFab site personally, so equally I do not know if there is anything "special" you are supposed to do to enable your model to work in an embedded fashion. What I can confirm though is that if I take the URL from a post where the behaviour was as expected previously (and still is) and then post that into a new post, the behaviour changes - which seems a bit odd.

If anyone has any experience of this or can suggest anything that may be causing it, or, if you want to be awarded my virtual Gold Star actually solve it - that would be fairly awesome.

Thanks for reading :slight_smile:

Kind regards

Rob

Improvement suggestions for groups (helpdesk mode)

@carlokok wrote:

having used groups since before it was even officially released to do "support"/"sales" there are a few things we'd like to see in Discourse to vastly improve the experience:

  • Search by subject/body and email address (esp for archived posts), this lets us find old posts.

  • Moving/merging posts: Sometimes when someone replies they use the To: email address instead of the Reply To: email address. When this happens I usually forward the mail manually, but it would be great if I could easily "add" it to an existing post.

Of course as always, these are just suggestions to improve discourse.

Paid Gig: Backup & restore + HTTPS (letsencrypt) + diagnose crash

Install at http://radar.techccabal.com keeps going down with 502 error. Restarting the droplet seems to bring it back on for a little bit but it quickly goes back down.

We're not sure what's causing this.

There's a graph here showing a 30-day utilization spike.

And 7-day CPU utilization graph showing the same spike:

There wasn't a corresponding spike in traffic as far as we can tell. The only thing we noticed was that we saw ads injected on the site. Could that be the cause? Have no idea.

So we need to also get HTTPS from letsencrypt.

When do you need it done?

ASAP

What is your budget, in $ USD that you can offer for this task?

I did a ./launcher rebuild app and it's back up (Discourse 1.7.0.beta8), but docker manager reports that the site is currently upgrading.

I rebooted adn rebuilt again and it still says "currently upgrading."

For a not-logged-in user, if a topic is so short and your browser window so tall that you cannot scroll, you cannot get a:visited set for a topic on the topic list.
