What would you like done?
Incorporate Shopify intergration so that Discourse will use Shopify account.

Basically, I want users to only need one login everywhere.

Examples that did a very good job at this:

My previous post about this: https://meta.discourse.org/t/shopify-integration/54310

When do you need it done?
As soon as possible. We need this before releasing our blog

What is your budget, in $ USD that you can offer for this task?

Permissions buttons not working

@skoota wrote:

I'm running the latest build of Discourse (v1.7.0.beta10+71) and none of the buttons under the "Permissions" section for the user profile seem to be working.

For example, when I click the "Suspend" button for a user, enter the time period and reason (in the popup box) and click "Suspend" again to save and close, nothing happens apart from the box disappearing. This output appears in the Discourse error logs:

Uncaught TypeError: this.get(...).suspend is not a function

Line: 5
Column: 17555
Window Location: https://forum.example.com/admin/users/4/username-being-suspended-here

When I click a different button (e.g. Block, Grant Moderation, etc.) errors appear in the browser console:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'apply' of undefined

    at HTMLElement.dispatch (_ember_jquery-60dedd1….js:7)
    at HTMLElement.g.handle (_ember_jquery-60dedd1….js:7)

The only button which does work is the "Generate" button for an API key.

All the buttons in the other sections work fine, the only problems are within "Permissions". Any ideas what is going on here?

Strategy to increase real names and profile usage?

@Denis_Didkovsky wrote:

Strategy to increase real names usage and profile.

We have discourse forum for supporting face-to-face meetups and (70% of audience is remote anyhow).
Our estimation is that only 50% of our audience have Facebook account. We would like to have real names policy (and avatar pic, some fields in profile) for those who wants to post as it generates more trust and confidence. There are no topics that need anonymous discussions in our context, so this is generally fine for our community to have real names and avatars.
Some of the approach might be to keep standard (email and Facebook) registration and the same logic as standard and
1. Popup when person tries to post first post. Then popup then invites him to add real name and avatar. So this is somehow close to https://meta.discourse.org/t/signup-call-to-action-when-you-read-for-a-while/32228/ but for those who already registered to fill in additional fields.
2. Closed category with access for those who filled in profile
3. Downloads are possible for those who filled in profile.
What do you think? + question is if there is some plugin that somehow close to that. Thanks

  • Popup at first post with request to fill in profile
  • Closed category with requirement to fill in profile
  • Downloads possible only for completed profiles

Questions about GitHub bug fix commits and tests-passed

I hope this is the correct category for this question. I am new and trying to understand what you are doing.

Speaking about https://meta.discourse.org/t/permissions-buttons-not-working/54539/4

This fix (and others from today) goes into the master branch but not into tests-passed. So if you are like me on the latest beta, you won't get all the super fast bugfixes ? Or does it just take some time, for automated testing, till it shows up at tests-passed? if so, how long does it take - hours, days, weeks?

Thank you so much and keep up the great work!

Can't sign up with email domain that is automatically matched to group

@imrehg wrote:

Hi, I'm administering a Discourse install hosted by Discourse. Just migrated here from another hosting.

I have a group, which also has the automatic email domain matching (Users who register with an email domain that exactly matches one in this list will be automatically added to this group). The problem I face is that now if people are signing up from the domain I set there, they receive a Password is the same as your current password. error and the system won't let them sign up. Other domains are fine, and if I take out the domain from the group settings, the same email address can sign up perfectly fine.

Here's what I see when trying to sign up: showing that there's no such email nor username in use, but still get a password error. The password was a random string.

So the steps:

  • Create group
  • For that group set Users who register with an email domain that exactly matches one in this list will be automatically added to this group: to a specific domain
  • Try to sign up with an email address using that domain

What should happen:

  • Sign up fine

What happens:

  • Password is the same as your current password. error and back to create new account screen

Any idea what might be going wrong here?

Banned users re-signing up through proxy IPs

@scottfsmith wrote:

We have been playing whack-a mole with a few banned users recently. Once their IP blocks were banned they switched to using proxy IPs. Now what I am having to do is manually look at the registrations and if its a server farm like Digital Ocean etc the user gets put on our internal watch list and usually ends up getting banned. I don't see a better way of doing this, I guess I could start blocking the proxy IPs but there are zillions of proxy servers out there including many that don't look like server farms. Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Stop bringing new pages to foreground

$

@jesus2099 wrote:

Hello,

It seems that there is some code that calls some kind of focus() after a discourse page successfully loads — witnessed it in meta, in try and in MB.

This code has no effect in Firefox, Chromium, Windows Mobile Edge and probably many other modern browsers, so this code may be simply forgotten behind.

You may actually only be able to witness that focus() thing if you use Opera presto and open link in background tab (my case and it’s bothering that tabs opened in the background, suddenly steal the focus and are brought to the foreground).

The fact that this code does not work in most common browsers makes it quite like dead code.
Could it be removed, sooner or later?

With kind regards.

Custom Onebox engine

@skoota wrote:

I am interested in developing a Onebox engine to neatly display/embed content from one of my own websites in a custom format - similar to the GitHub custom engines.

Assuming that I fork the Onebox repo on GitHub, and push all my custom code and changes, how would I then go about telling my Discourse instance to use my modified version of Onebox, rather than the official version?

The engine I am looking at developing is fairly custom, so I doubt that I will file a PR to include it back into the main codebase.

Excessive white space + vertical scroll slider + fonts

$

@needhelp wrote:

Hi All, we migrated to Discourse about 2 months ago, so far the 3 biggest "complaints" are:

1) White space - Users say there are excessive white space especially on the right hand side where the vertical slider is. So has anyone tried a different layout that reduces the amount of white space throughout the forum and especially the right hand column area? Would greatly appreciate to see if others have attempted to tackle the white space issue.

2) Vertical slider - the vertical scroll slider is not precise enough. Very often when you try to slide all the way to the very bottom, the slider will bounces up to one or 2 posts above the bottom. Would be nice if there is a way to improve the precision and feel of vertical slider. I think Flarum has an excellent slider, wonder if a similar version can be installed for discourse.

3) Fonts are too small and not enough contrast against the white background, I suppose these are easy cosmetic changes that can be handled with some CSS customizations?

All in all, the "complaints" about the new forum are mostly cosmetics in nature, so I guess the users are adapting to the new platform reasonably well in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks
