Looking for Discourse Hosting + Custom Config + Admin Support

What would you like done?
We're looking to have a discourse server hosted (including backups), highly customized, have someone with expertise who can answer our questions, implement change requests on an ongoing basis. Our customizations will not require code changes but will require CMS (like a header with buttons & links) as well as plugins and using some of the more advanced features like: single sign-on, anonymous plugin for post & reply, showing thumbnail images (e.g. like https://github.com/angusmcleod/discourse-topic-previews) and polls.

We got a prototype setup internally so we know its doable but need it rebuilt from scratch on a hosted server with someone who can do additional customization requests.

When do you need it done?

Within the next few weeks.

What is your budget, in $ USD that you can offer for this task?
discourse.org Enterprise is too expensive

I could not find a "Requests" category, hoping this one is the right one, or that this will get moved accordingly.

After browsing for a while a forum without being logged in, one could get the gentle push to do it (I love it!). Upon picking to be reminded tomorrow, this message shows:

I think it should simply read "OK, I'll ask you tomorrow." and a timer to dismiss, or just an "X" mark to dismiss, nothing else. Is this configurable? Thanks!

Group specific Banner Topics?

@joebuhlig wrote:

I have a situation where I want to display different Banner Topics dependent on the users group membership. Namely, I'd like to show one banner if a user isn't logged in and a different one if they are but aren't a part of a specific group.

I could likely set up categories to target the two sectors but is it possible to target users with specific Banner Topics? I'd rather not build a customization to do it but I'm also not tossing that idea.

I saw how to hide a banner from anonymous users, but not how to show two different banners.

I'm working on a couple plugins where I'd like to add a menu item on the user level. To me it makes sense to have a way to add to this here:

Any time we have something that is tied to the user, we could create a menu item on the user level. I'm specifically trying to find a way to show a user their license keys and subscriptions on the site.

And to make things easier :wink:

Categories/Latest view live update

@David_Taylor wrote:

As noted here, the split categories/latest view doesn't "live update" to show new topics. It is also missing the "last visited" line, which makes it inferior to the full "latest" page. It would be great if these features can be added to the split view.

At the bottom of the pages of my forum (latest Discourse version) I get:

Invalid Format: Uncaught SyntaxError: Expected "=", "}" or [a-zA-Z$_] but "%u043F" found. at undefined:1376:10

It looks like you've used an ISO-8859-1 regex which doesn't account for non-latin symbols. But I can't tell where, as this is printed on the page, with bold.

P.S. could you tell me where can I "patch" it manually, because I'm using a non-finished translation (not part of the github repo), and upgrading to the next version doesn't work smoothly.

Reliable link to "Congratulations!" create new account page

@pfaffman wrote:

When someone visits a new site they get the Congratulations! page. After that, though, it's not quite so easy.

I'd like to include a link to the setup Wizard for my install customers, but I can't quite figure it out. If you're not logged in as an admin /wizard/ is a 404. There's a /finish-installation url, but it too seems ethereal.

Is there some link I can provide that will allow to return to the wizard start point?

I have no idea how to fix it. Could this be a problem with discourse-setup or is it more likely that my docker installation is broken (Ubuntu 16.10 with Docker 1.12.3)? Any ideas?

Request: Synchronize green indicator for unread private messages when the topic is open

@Lutz wrote:

It is somewhat complicated to explain.

Let's say you have a private conversation with a member and the appropriate topic /t/[topic-name]/[numbers] is open. Now the member will send you a new message in this topic. The green indicator for new private messages (on the Avatar) goes to (1). You directly see the message in the topic, since it is already open. Now you switch to another topic and the green (1) is still there.

It would be nice if this was synchronized.

I've set up one of our organisation's systems to provide a onebox using this HTML tag

As an example: on the page https://domain.here/2345, I have this tag:

<link rel="alternate" type="application/json+oembed" href="https://domain.here/2345/oembed_json/" title="Onebox Embed">

https://domain.here/2345/oembed_json/ then provides

This used to work great, but has stopped working in the last few weeks (not sure exactly when). Currently on the latest version of Discourse, and I can reproduce the issue on meta. Oembed shows up fine on http://iframely.com/debug

I'd rather not make the URL to the actual system public, but can PM it to someone if that would help.

Hey Guys,
as i'm just working on a new blog, i'd like to try out discourse instead of bbpress or woltlab inside it. So i set it up and tried it out a little bit and yes, i like it. So for simplicity i'd like to totaly integrate discourse inside my wordpress page. I have a standard theme with a header, and a sidemenu and now i'd like to replace the content section with my discourse board. I don't want the users to "leave" my site when they enter and discuss inside a board.

Is this possible with discourse? And if yes, how could i get this working?

Thanks in advance :slight_smile:

Any Community Managers (or Discourse Devs) in the San Francisco area?

Hey all!

As the title says, I'm looking for fellow Community peeps in the SF area. I help run the Unbounce Community and I'll be in the bay area next week for some work related stuff.

I would love to connect with other Community managers/coordinators in the area to chat about a few things, such as:

  • What kind of challenges you face
  • Engaging new users // prompting lurkers
  • community advocates/experts (aka your top 5% engaged)
  • communicating value from the Community to your organization (ie. ROI)

Sorry for offtopic question.

@DiscourseMetrics.com I have checked your website and I would love to join your private beta. But m unable to see any privacy policy on your website.

Before opting, I would like to know what information you collect when I add my site to DM.

You grab the stat numbers only after addition of site or all users, profiles, emails. Can you pls provide more info on this? It will be great if you tell what data you collect.
