Hi, everyone! One of my admins had a question that I think might be a feature request:
Something that's been annoying me since forever, is the fact that discourse doesn't reset a thread's activity time after deleting a post. Like right now there's that 7 year old thread at the top of the forums because some spammer posted something in it, which itself was deleted. So really as far as the public can tell, the last activity was 7 years ago, not a couple of hours ago. So it shouldn't be visible in the forums list.
What do you all think? If this is indeed a new feature request, do you all run into this as well?
I still have a problem with another plugin/gem. My main website is based on wordpress - but a long time ago I set up the posts to have the URL format like this:
Unicode 9 added a  emoji which I'd love to use right about now. http://emojipedia.org/shrug/ indicates that it's available in all five of the standard sets available from Discourse (Apple, Google, Twitter, Emojione, Microsoft/Win10).
I'd love to see Discourse adopt all of the new stuff in Unicode 9.
For now, I'll just have to copy and paste that katakana thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
P.S. Note that you can't paste in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ directly except in code blocks; you have to escape the backslash with ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm trying to login a user after forwarding from sso using a silent GET request, which seems to be failing.
Does the login require it be referred DIRECTLY from the specified SSO login? I believe it does from my testing (or I am missing something crucial). If so, is there a way to change this or work around it?
@Falco and all, this is something that I would like to be able to do on the forum that I help run.
We have one category for "Members Only" - that is restricted to only our paid/active members - that I am able to import a list of users who currently have active accounts in our Active Directory through the Web Interface; however, there is no easy way to do a bulk remove of members who are no longer active from the group using the Web Interface.
I do have access to the server side and one of our admins already has a script to export the active accounts to a CSV file that includes the e-mail addresses of all currently active members; however, I do not know how to create a script that would remove all members from the restricted group on our forum, then add only the currently active members back to it (which sounds like basically what you are doing...). This is something that I would like to have done daily, as mentioned in the post quoted above.
I am getting an error on my Discourse forum that I can't figure out. When trying to post a topic with the letter k in the title, I get the following error:
There is no "k" in my censored words list.
Removing the letter k causes the error to go away, and I'll be able to post.
PLEASE do not link to advice that tells people to set their DNS servers to digital ocean's. That is seriously toxic. (and why is DO telling people to do this? Awful.)
Rather, all they need to do is go to their existing DNS registrar -- the same place they purchased the domain name from, usually -- and add an A record pointing to the IP.
I have attempted this on godaddy by changing the default A record to:
A -> Host: forum Points To: IP address of discourse forum
I have seen in another topic where someone was told to check their app.yml file to make sure the subdomain is correct but I do not know how to do that starting from root@disocourse (discourse being the name of my Digital Ocean droplet)
This is a more permanent post for a plugin that @vinothkannans created and I forked recently. Many thanks to @vinothkannans for doing the hard work of wiring up the main logic, @ljpp for stirring the original conversation, and @DiscourseMetrics.com for providing the impetus behind a customized modal.
You can see it in action on my site after a few hits to a topic:
As with all plugins, this is how you add it: - git clone https://github.com/jgujgu/discourse-guest-gate.git
You have two main gate options in the plugin:
Generic gate
Custom gate
And tertiary options:
Number of topic views until gate displays. After the gate first appears, it appears randomly between 1 and this number.
I am using a custom SSO login through a node endpoint. It all works well and logs the user into discourse through '/auth/ssologin' and then '/session/sso_login' page. Can I pass a parameter directly to '/session/sso_login' to go to the previous url/topic? If so what is the parameter?
It looks like maybe I can verify everything through SparkPost just using the DKIM DNS record, but I'd like to also verify I can receive mail to both abuse@mydomain and postmaster@mydomain. Only problem I have is, I currently have no way to actually do so.
I thought about paying $5 at my registrar to have mail for my domain forwarded to my Gmail, but that seems like it's probably a waste of money. Anybody have any good tips for setting my MX records, etc., so I can forward my mail from my server to my Gmail for free and verify that I really do own my domain? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Cheers!
(I think I'd like to eventually allow replies to posts via e-mail, so maybe I need to read Setup incoming emails, but I think my immediate question is slightly different.)
I'd like to limit read/write access to my discourse site to a limited set of possible users. John Q Public shall neither have read nor write access to any of our discussions. Is there a way to realize this?
I may be able to get a list of the allowed users' email addresses. Alternatively, I could send out the website information to the allowed users, trusting them not to share this with others. Perhaps there are other ways to limit accessibility?
I write code for embedded computing, but am a beginner on the systems admin side, fwiw.
Hi, I wonder if someone here can help. I have a new clean install of Discourse ( the docker install ) everything is working fine, but every day I check back, the vm has crashed. I get a 502 Bad Gateway Nginx error. I have checked the error log in discourse and nothing listed in there. I don't even get SSH access so I have to restart or reset the vm, Im in testing phase at the moment and running the vm on virtualbox on my development server. I will move it over when in production to another server. I doubt its ubuntu, because I have 3 other ubuntu 16.04 vm's on the same server and they are running perfectly. I have done a rebuild of the app, but I had gotten this crash every day so far before the rebuild. I only have one extra plugin installed, and only installed this plugin yesterday, and gotten this crash before the plugin install. I can do a new vm and discourse install, but I have done a lot of configuration, so would prefer not to. Would you maybe suggest a different vm OS other than ubuntu 16.04. v1.8.0.beta4 +12, I was on the previous build and updated to this one. I had the crash before the update. The vm has got 2GB ram, 20GB hdd, 1 nic in bridged mode, 2 cpu's, PAE/NX enabled, and "KVM acceleration" with hardware virtualisation VT-x/AMD-V and nested paging enabled.
As always, loving the poll feature. A minor observation, though - I just closed a poll and note that it's showing the options page rather than the results page:
Hey guys, I have this weird issue, where my user is automatically upgraded to admin.
In logs i can see the action of revoking admin, but not the other way around.
Does the email format is important? I'm using foo@gmail.com for my account and foo+admin@gmail.com for the admin account (which I changed a couple of months ago, but I first noticed this issue a week or so ago).
I was wondering if there's a way by which we can prevent Google bots from indexing the topics under specific category. Also preventing users under a certain trust level from downloading a link.
I'm new to Discourse and trying to get my head around the email templates.
The issue we're facing is that when user B replies to a user A's thread, user A then receives an email, which details user B's full reply. Rather than user A logging back into the community to respond to user B, they are clicking reply to the email and responding in there, and therefore missing out on posting in the community. Nice long conversations get lost that way.
I am trying to find the template I need to edit, in order to remove the full reply in the email, and maybe just include a teaser so that user A has to log back in in order to read the full response. I thought it would be the 'User Replied' template but that doesn't look to be the same as the emails I am seeing between users.
