How can I know a user is using default avatar in discourse? because I don't want to warn users that already have gravatars or their custom avatars set.

Group Join/Leave button not working

@scombs wrote:

Continuing the discussion from Joining a group doesn't take effect unless the browser is hard-refreshed:

This issue is back again for me. Not sure it related to the linked "topic list" refresh issue so starting a new topic.

Also, when selecting Join Group for certain groups I get an error message: 'user' is already a member of this group (but the Groups page doesn't reflect that fact). I tried clearing cache.

I am an owner of some of these groups but still seeing the issues for groups where I am non-owner.

A user should not really be allowed to "leave" the group if they are owner right?. As I type this, I am realizing maybe that's why the button isn't changing for some groups? Maybe this should trigger an error message or disable the button for owners so they can't leave a group. User are allowed to "not have an owner" so I suppose this could be addressed later.

Another issue to consider for troubleshooting, I did change my groups names recently (so they could be sorted in order by slug name).

If this looks like something specific to my instance, feel free to move it to private support.

I want to hide a specific Subcategory from the Hamburger Menu. Not all Subcategories from this Main-Category, only one. With this CSS I can select the link, but not the "li" element.

.hamburger-panel li.category-link a.badge-wrapper.box[[href="/c/mycategory/mysubcategory"] {
	display: none;
}

I need to get the li.category-link, but no idea how. Any ideas?

Email notifications of replies to staged users

@Wil wrote:

Hola

I've been trying for some time to setup a sort of "foot in the door" approach with emails and staged users.
The idea is to use an external form on a 3rd party site to feed Discourse through email replies
The reason: leverage existing traffic + removing signup step
Here is the flow so far:

1) Alice fills an external form with her question

2) A bot managed by Zapier sends an email to the @help group, ccing alice@email.com
Alice gets an email reply by robot@zapiermail.com.
Body is something like " [Alice] asked a new question through external form, [question]
An admin will answer soon"

3) A PM to @help group is created. OP is the robot. Included in the PM are @help , an alice@email.com staged user

4) Bob, included in the @help group, replies

Problem: Alice doesn't get Bob's reply by email.

Another thing I've tried is emailing to a category, but then Alice can't be included in the thread since OP is Robot

I guess a solution would be to emulate an email-in from Alice, is it possible or is there a better way to do that?

Discourse Integration with other Ruby Application

Hi,

I am starting work on a Ruby app that will be deployed at domain.com. Discourse will be deployed at subdomain.domain.com.

I'm just wondering what the best convention is, in regards to domain.com having access to our users.

I'm also developing locally. Would this mean I'd have to run two VM's, one discourse and one my custom Rails app?

Keen to hear how others have configured, I'm sure there are many ways!

Suggest Modification to "Updated Topic" Count Notification

$

@mblatz wrote:

Hello. I am a Discourse user on another private forum. I noticed that even though I may have muted some topics, if those topics are updated they are still then reflected in the count displayed in the notification at top of forum that tells a user "[count] new or updated topics. Click to show". This leads to the situation where clicking may (and often does for me and others) show nothing different that what was previously listed. Sometimes a bit confusing...

If this feature is working as intended, please disregard. If it makes sense that this count should only reflect new and un-muted topics, but not muted ones, please consider an appropriate modification.

@rimian wrote:

Hi!

I want to create a custom notification when something happens in my plugin. I can see there is a custom notification type but I'm unsure about how to use it.

Something like:

data = {title: 'some custom event happened'}
Notification.create!(user_id: 1, notification_type: 14, data: data.to_json)

I can create them but they show 'undefined':

Can someone please point me in the right direction? Any help much appreciated...

I am attempting to test the feature that sends emails when you are replied to or when your name is mentioned with @ before their name. I made sure that:

The user has not been online in the last 10 minutes.

and that the following:

Send me an email when someone quotes me, replies to my post, mentions my @username, or invites me to a topic

is checked

but emails are not showing up for replies nor for mentions...

how can i go about troubleshooting this...

Sidekiq queue keeps growing

@svg wrote:

Hi,

I recently set up a discourse, and migrated content from a phpbb3 forum.
We actually migrated jost some topics/subfora, which means that after a full import, we deleted lots of categories again, to only keep the subfora that got split out. Deleting those postings and categories happened immediately after the import.

Now, after that import, sideqik showed around 100k jobs that needed to be processed. After a couple of days we are now at 500k processed jobs and around 165k still to process.

Screenshot:

So they get processed, but it seems every X hours, another batch of around 100k jobs get created. It does not seem like this will get purged eventually.

Is this normal behaviour? Can the deletion of messages be part of a problem here?

Thanks,

One of our users (Pixelfreaks-dev-27139) can't change his email. He gets the error change_email.error, saying a user with this email already exists. However, this is not the case.

He already hat issues with changing the email address in the first place, he got the same error there. As I tried the same thing by taking over his account with my admin account, it worked. Spooky, somehow.

Discourse mobile app search engine

@liberaltech wrote:

An easier way to search and find new Discourse made forums.

Has there been talk about adding a search feature to the mobile app?

I wanted to know if there was a search engine being developed for the mobile app version of discourse so that it would make it easier to find new forums or explore categories. Similar to what Gitter has on it's app.

Possible Features:
- Searcheable forums
- Categories
- Most visited (with permission from forum if private)
- Number of people

I mainly would like to be able to search for new Discourse forums.
