Feature idea: auto-bump a topic if its title contains today's date

@ChrisBeach wrote:

On my forum, people post local events weeks or months in advance of the date.

Unfortunately, on the day of the event, the associated post is often long-buried.

It would be handy if Discourse could:

  • Identify dates automatically in post titles (as Apple apps do).
  • Automatically bump posts on their identified date
  • Show dates neatly and consistently on the topic list:

I'd like to hire someone on contract to help us get our new discourse community looking sexy before we launch. We like the way this community is styled and would want something similar: https://nomadforum.io/

When do you need it done?
Need to have everything looking great by June 1st, 2017

What is your budget, in $ USD that you can offer for this task?
Can pay $40-$80/hr depending on how awesome and fast you are :slight_smile:

Inconsistent margin for solved user summary

@jomaxro wrote:

The "X solutions" stat added to the user summary page is not a <li> like the other status, but a <span> with a <li> inside. Because of this, the likes received button is :last-of-type and has a CSS property of margin: 0. With the default theme, this isn't noticeable, but when customizing the stats with box shadow the margin difference is quite clear.

Add external change password link

@thecellmc wrote:

Hello,
I am using Discourse with a WordPress website where WordPress is the SSO provider.
As WordPress is the SSO provider, you can't change your password within the Discourse user settings.
Would it be possible to add a button, in the Account settings, which links to my main website to that the user can change his password?
Here is a mockup of what I would like to have:

So any ideas about how this would be possible?

Better help text for adding categories to top menu

@tophee wrote:

It's really great that it's possible to include specific categories in the to menu (like "Bugs" and "Features" here on Meta). However, it took me a while to figure out how to do it. I played around with the top menu settings but neither the examples in the help text nor the provided suggestions when typing hinted at the correct format (category/<category_name>). How about adding this to the help text?

Current version:

Determine which items appear in the homepage navigation, and in what order. Example latest|new|unread|categories|top|read|posted|bookmarks

New version:
Determine which items appear in the homepage navigation, and in what order. Example latest|new|unread|categories|top|read|posted|bookmarks|category/site feedback

When a restricted category is added to the top menu (like "Bugs" and "Features" here on Meta), these will be displayed for users who cannot actually access them. It would be great if these were only displayed for users who at least have read access...

What exactly does "Automatically set as primary group" do?

0

@tophee wrote:

I understand that when I check the "Automatically set as primary group" option in a group's settings, the idea is that when a user joins this group, this group will become the user's primary group, right?

Furthermore, the effects of setting a primary group in general have been well explained.

But here are some questions:

  1. Does this work retrospectively, i.e. if I check this option for a group that already has members, will this set the group as their primary group?
  2. Am I right in assuming that it is always the last group that the user joins (and which has this setting activated) that becomes the primary group?
  3. Where it gets more complicated is when you also automatically set a title based on the primary group. You'd think that the title changes when the primary group changes but this does not seem to be the case. And some (not me) might argue the user title should only change if the new primary group actually has a user title assigned to it. So the question is twofold: what is the current behaviour and what should be the behaviour?

Discourse Softaculous Integration?

@The_Sink wrote:

Softaculous is a tool that some hosting services and cPanel systems use to ease the process of installing big site services (such as phpBB, another forum service). I was wondering if it would be possible for Discourse to integrate their system into Softaculous. It would make it possible to add Discourse to cPanel-enabled services. Just wondering because it could have permission problems/security concerns.
If you need info on Softaculous, you can find some sources and info on what is it with a simple google search.

(As an example i'm running a free .ml site through Byeghost with active domain stuff, and was trying to get discourse on it but without having a paid VPS or SSH access that's practically impossible right now)

I run a Discourse instance using one host, which needs to be rebooted from time to time in order for system updates to complete. How can I tell when the best time to reboot is, i.e. when there are fewest users with active sessions?

Also, if I reboot while a user is writing a post, what will happen to that post?

Why it takes too long to load these requests? What are they for?

@Yassine_Yousfi wrote:

I was doing tons of efforts to optimize my website, and while checking the performance reports, for tons of pages (including the home page). I could find that it gives these two "poll" requests that are taking too long to load, Is it a Poll plugin being loaded :confused: though non of those pages have the poll plugin in them being used :confused: and the user loading is anonymous.

Any insights would be appreciated, Thanks

If you do enhance those two pages, then you might also give distinguishing prefixes to titles. Respectively (with en dashes):

So I installed Discourse on an old computer I had laying around. I would like to use it to test stuff before rolling it out on the production site which is going to be on Digital Ocean. My old computer also has the same specs as the Droplet. Is there a way to have them "share" data so that they both remain updated with the latest posts, etc although they are 2 different networks, servers?

Polls Markdown not generating data in the posts_custom_fields on rebake. I am trying to import data in this table directly creating manually.
The data generated by plugin look like this.

{"1234":{"options":[{"id":"effcb6be017a521329814839ecc1028e","html":"here","votes":0},{"id":"e6faee8cf7ebd9a622bf57d59193cb04","html":"there","votes":0},{"id":"24482e8fdd7a0103b0937ee60d7b8c15","html":"nowhere","votes":0}],"voters":0,"status":"open","name":"1234","type":"regular"}}

Here is how manually i achived it
Insert this ijn Posts.Row

<div class="poll" data-poll-status="open" data-poll-name="12345" data-poll-type="regular">
<div>
<div class="poll-container"><ul>
<li data-poll-option-id="1001">here</li>
<li data-poll-option-id="1002">there</li>
<li data-poll-option-id="1003">nowhere</li>
</ul></div>
<div class="poll-info"><p><span class="info-number">0</span><span class="info-text">voters</span></p></div>
</div>
<div class="poll-buttons"><a title="Display the poll results">Show results</a></div>
</div>

Inserted This in posts_custom_fields table with correct post id and content name "polls" .
{"12345 ":{"options":[{"id":"1001","html":"here","votes":0},{"id":"1002","html":"there","votes":0},{"id":"1003","html":"nowhere","votes":0}],"voters":0,"status":"open","name":"1234","type":"regular"}}

Inserted This in posts_custom_fields table with correct post id and content name "polls-votes" .
{"1":{"12345":["1001"]}}

I updated and rebaked 0.3 million posts, Polls are working now, but for more naturality i want to know how these ids are generated in polls plugin.

Embedding a book from Google Books

@tophee wrote:

What's the best practice for embedding an book preview from Google Books?

Google books provides both a plain link and an iframe, but neither of them work out of the box:

By "don't work" I mean they don't give me a onebox when pasted into discourse.

The only solution I see at the moment is to whitelist google.books.com using @Simon_Cossar's whitelist-iframe plugin. Is this the best/only way forward?

I am installing my second forum using the discourse, and the same error always happens, when entering the command ./discourse-setup, the installation for as in the image, I leave for 40 min there, and nothing else happens, disconnects from the server and nothing, I used the tmux command to get back from where the installation stopped, and it does not leave those lines.

In another installation @Falco helped me, could anyone verify? I inform the SSH access data, I believe it should be my machine.

Adding HTML classes in posts doesn't appear to work

@boisy wrote:

I am trying to add an adaptive grid to our discourse site. In my custom CSS I have:

.grid {
  display: flex;
  flex-direction: row;
  flex-wrap: wrap;
  max-width: 1000px;
  margin-left: -5px;
  margin-right: -5px;
}

.grid-item {
  max-width: 160px;
  margin-bottom: 20px;
  margin-left: 5px;
  margin-right: 5px;
}

.grid-item img {
  width: 100%;
}

I have a post on our forum here: http://discuss.affectiva.com/t/face-metrics-in-the-emotion-sdk/51 that has the following:

<div class="grid">
  <div class="grid-item">
    <img src="/uploads/affectiva/original/1X/3532685ede3eaf46d50d77d6f545211c56192cc0.jpg" alt="" />
    <p class="thicker">Anger</p>
  </div>

However, the CSS doesn't seem to take effect. In fact, when I look at the source to the page when I load it, I see that the class="grid" and class="grid-item" attributes are gone.

Is discourse stripping the class attributes? If so, can I prevent this from happening?
