How do I unsubscribe from a topic using email?

@sjmscott wrote:

In my community I have a category called, HelpDesk. I've created 20 or so tutorials to help users transition. Here is one if you want to use it in your community. BTW, the Richard Simmons topic doesn't really exist.

Here is the short tutorial:

The power of Discourse is that you can fine tune exactly what notifications you want to receive. If you don't want to go to the website to unsubscribe from a topic, category, or person, you can stop getting emails on a topic that you don't care about.

1. At the bottom of the email message look for "To unsubscribe from these emails, click here

2. Make sure the thread the don't want to receive is highlighted. In this case you would no longer receive notifications on the thread, "My favorite Richard Simmons workout"

Global Email Template

I just installed Discourse and I have it up and running. It's pretty awesome but I am a amazed that there is no way to create a common email template. You have dozens of different types of emails, but if I want to create a simple, common template for my emails (i.e. common header, footer, style) there doesn't appear to be a way to do this.

Am I missing something?

Test emails send without a problem and if I restart the server I can in fact resend the sign up email manually via the admin interface however the automatic one on initial sign up doesn't send and stays stuck

I am not sure why, I checked my settings and did well on the spam test (8/10) using http://www.mail-tester.com as the sample email suggests.

For some unknown reason one of my blog posts will not accept comments, all the rest do, new or old ones can be edited to work.

And I cannot see the start discussion link when there are no comments, yet if I add a comment into discourse blog will show this up.

Also the link back to show full post doesnt load.

Very frustrating

Per page classes so we can customize experience better?

@jlippiner wrote:

Hi -

I'm new to Discourse so maybe this is an open I am not seeing. I want to be able to customize certain pages, such as the homepage, so it looks different. Maybe it has a header image or a search bar - not sure.

Anyway, a SIMPLE way to accomplish this would be to add appropriate classes to each page in the header or body. So the homepage might have something like homepage as a body class and a category page might have something like category category-slug as the classes for that page. Etc etc.

Then we can use the theme CSS customization (and JS customization if that's possible) to easily customize each page.

Where is the user content stored in the database?

Hi guys,

I'm currently exploring the postgres discourse database for a migration to discourse.

Now I know that postgres holds the content of a discourse board, right? But I can't find it.

If I create a new topic and call it "loremipsumlorem", than I can't find that string back in the postgres database. Where is it? Where are the categories stored? And the users?

Hello,

sorry if it's duplicate, is there a way to automatically protect email addresses written in posts to be scanned by bots?

(I mean out of doing it manually, like replacing @ by [at] by hand)

Hello!

We just installed Discourse on our server. There was an issue that prevented us from accessing SSH since we changed the plan on our VPS hosting. All the issue have been fixed with that now, but we can't get to the Discourse Forum. The support person there said to come here for answers.

Thanks!

Sort Categories by name

I need to sort all of the subcategories in a category by name.

Something like

cats = Category.find_by_sql("select * from categories where name like '%whatever%')
x=0
cats.sort_by_name.each do |c|
   x += 1
   c.position = x
end

is there some Discourse way or should I just be asking at StackOverFlow?

AWS / Sparkpost e-mail

@Timothy_Vail wrote:

Hello, I recently installed Discourse on an AWS instance. The forum is working fine except e-mails don't work. I SSHed in and edited the config file to

 #DISCOURSE_SMTP_ADDRESS: smtp.sparkpostmail.org
  #DISCOURSE_SMTP_PORT: 587
  #DISCOURSE_SMTP_USER_NAME: SMTP_Injection
  #DISCOURSE_SMTP_PASSWORD: "0c48(my actual code)"

rebuilt the app via SSH, but it still doesn't work. When I do a test e-mail, it always says sent. I tried checking the Sparkpost settings and everything seems fine. I have no idea what I should do to fix this.

I have the forum set up as a subdomain of my domain. It all works fine but that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also a little new to server management etc, last week I never heard of Discourse or AWS to be honest hehe.

Thank you!
Tim

Clicking the "Remove bookmark" button does nothing when the bookmark no longer exists

@barryvan wrote:

This is a super small issue.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Head over to your bookmarks page.
  2. Open a bookmark in a new tab, then remove the bookmark from there.
  3. Return to the bookmarks tab, and click the "remove bookmark" button.

Expected outcome:
The bookmark item is removed from the screen.

Actual outcome:
The bookmark item remains on-screen and visible.

As I mentioned at the top, this is a really minor issue -- what I call a "papercut" bug.

I had a sub category that would work much better as a parent due to the amount of posts on different subjects it contained. Upon removing the sub-category's parent, the "latest" posts from the old sub-category are still listed under the old parent.

How do I fix this? Is there any way to refresh the latest posts?

In the last few days I've been unable to use the Discourse iOS app. The forum list shows, but clicking on a forum leads to a blank white screen. Force-quitting and restarting the app takes me back to the forum list, but again I get a blank screen when clicking on a forum. Happens for any forum, including meta.

Is discourse's database structure , optimized?

@Alavi1412 wrote:

When we create a user_custom field, a row at user_fields will be created. and each time we add info to this user custom field, a row at user_custom_fields will be created.
Now, When you want to select or modify these custom fields, you should select the id of the user_custom_field at user_fieldsand then, from that id, you should select the property from user_custom_fields table. and this isn't good.
I think it could be better like this:
each time we create a user_custom_fields, a column at userstable should be created with name of that user_custom_field we want. in this way, calling this property will be so much faster.
what is the reason of the present database structure?

Improving Discourse Native App Push Notifications

$

@jomaxro wrote:

I've been using the Discourse Native app (on Android) to get push notifications since the app was in beta. There have been two small things that have bugged me, and I finally remembered to make a feature request.

Request #1: Push Notifications do not mention which site the notification is from. I have multiple sites in the app. There are times when I cannot immediately open the app to check on a notification. Being able to know which site the notification is from (as I can't always associate the username) would be helpful.

Request #2: Optional vibrate (and sound) for notifications. I'd love to see the option for (default off) vibrate and sound when a notification is received. At the moment, I have to check my phone to see if I received a notification, which defeats a big part of getting a notification. In many cases, I see the notification because my phone vibrated 10 minutes later with the email. This could be implemented globally for the app (either you get vibrate or you don't), and if there comes a time where there are site level settings, then this could be expanded to allow for vibrate on one site but not another.
