These kind of links worked not very long ago:

Producing oneboxes like this:

But not any longer - I tried inputting them on:

But I couldn't see what was wrong.... Especially when I compared the output to Discourse's own output...

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Grammarly for Chrome doesn't work on Discourse

There is this great Chrome extension "Grammarly for Chrome" that helps you to improve the text you write. It highlights grammar problems and makes suggestions on how to fix them or improve our text in other ways:

Unfortunately, this doesn't work in Discourse input fields. The extension gets added to the input field and also highlights the problems, but you can't click the highlights to get the suggestions. From my usage Discourse is the only location where this doesn't work, so I assume Discourse is doing something that breaks this functionality.

Any way to fix it?

How to introduce people to get familar to Discourse?

@xiasummer wrote:

You see, if we want to let people come to use Discourse, we have to achieve a few goals:

  1. Make people familar with Discourse structure. Different useage of different buttons.

  2. Make people familar with Markdown or the edit bar:

  3. This is a phone era. How to make people easily login to Discourse to read and chat? There is an app called "Discourse" now. So I think it quite important to let people know the app.

    • And, that is an app container which can contain many forums based on Discourse. So should we make different lists of forums for people to sellect?

SQL query in Data Explorer to pull latest topics?

Hey there,

I'm looking to display something like this on my Wordpress homepage:

I'm using @meglio's Twig Anything to do this, which can pull data from any JSON feed. I've tried just using https://meta.discourse.org/latest.json, but the issue is that it's difficult to pull the user avatars, as the users array does not use User ID as a key.

@meglio recommended that I create a special SQL request in the Discourse Data Explorer plugin, and extract all fields needed in resulting rows.

Unfortunately I have no experience in writing SQL queries. Would anyone be able to help with this? (been told it should be a piece of cake).

Thanks!

Is there an API for posting a thread that is private between a user and a staff group

I want to use Discourse to allow our app to create a thread for discussion between restricted groups such as staff and highly trusted forum members.

Would this be possible via the API, if yes would there be some examples or mentions somewhere in your response that could help me make this possible?

I can't seem to see anything that would work for this but I feel like it would make sense for this to be possible.

Capping number of replies in topics, whats the experience in your community?

Curious to hear other admin perspectives on reply caps in your communities? i have found that entering a long topic for the first time can be overwhelming, at the same time I dont want to interfere with the discussion that may be taking place. But I would like to encourage users to break into new topics where relevant.

Any thoughts or experiences to share? What do you have your max reply count set to?

I find the current text ambiguous: does it mean that these tags cannot be used in other categories, or that these are the only tags that can be used in the category? It's the latter, and I think the text could better convey this.

With the recent Discourse version.
I'm using this config: https://mozilla.github.io/server-side-tls/ssl-config-generator/?server=nginx-1.11.6&openssl=1.0.2g&hsts=yes&profile=intermediate

nano templates/web.ssl.template.yml

Modify the ssl config to:

       listen 443 ssl http2 reuseport;
       ssl_protocols TLSv1 TLSv1.1 TLSv1.2;
       ssl_ciphers 'ECDHE-ECDSA-CHACHA20-POLY1305:ECDHE-RSA-CHACHA20-POLY1305:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384:ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384:DHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-SHA256:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA256:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-SHA:ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA384:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-SHA384:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-SHA:ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA:DHE-RSA-AES128-SHA256:DHE-RSA-AES128-SHA:DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA256:DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA:ECDHE-ECDSA-DES-CBC3-SHA:ECDHE-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA:EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA:AES128-GCM-SHA256:AES256-GCM-SHA384:AES128-SHA256:AES256-SHA256:AES128-SHA:AES256-SHA:DES-CBC3-SHA:!DSS';
       ssl_prefer_server_ciphers on;
       ssl_ecdh_curve secp384r1;

       ssl_certificate /shared/ssl/ssl.crt;
       ssl_certificate_key /shared/ssl/ssl.key;

       ssl_session_tickets off;
       ssl_session_timeout 1d;
       ssl_session_cache shared:SSL:50m;

       gzip on;

       add_header Strict-Transport-Security 'max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains; preload';

nano templates/web.letsencrypt.ssl.template.yml

Modify the very bottom config to:

add_header Strict-Transport-Security 'max-age=63072000; includeSubDomains; preload';

Then:

./launcher rebuild app

I hope I posted on the right category.

Hello everybody, I have an issue.
My server autoupdate kernel and now it doesn't boot because the virtual environment doesn't support the new kernel.
I can install a new OS, how can I move Discourse to the new instance?

I have a backup but it's not recent... can I move the docker container to the other server and everything is fine?

Is it my imagination or is there an epidemic of "running out of space" problems lately?

I can't remember for certain, but I think the 30 minute install used to mention minimum disk space 8 G.

What is the absolute minimum for an instance with OS, Docker etc, the running docker images, 1 backup, retention 1 backup, and enough left over to do ./launcher cleanup, then rebuild app ?

Probably worth mentioning in the 30 min install.

Previous post not stripped from reply by email

@tophee wrote:

Continuing the discussion from Email reply parsing:

I have had two cases where a post created through a reply by email included the original post/email that the user was replying to, i.e. discourse failed to strip those parts from the incoming message.

Assuming that the challenge for the algorithm is to identify the break point where the actual message ends and the irrelevant part of the email starts, I'm posting here the part of the messages where that break should obviously have been (indicated by the red line).

The first one looks like it should be easy to recognize, since it's just discourses own header that marks the break point:

The other one is a bit more tricky because it also includes the standard email header in a different language (Swedish) (though it did not strip anything, even after the Swedish email header):

Does app.yml persist between docker upgrades?

@jlippiner wrote:

Im working on a plugin and the instructions I received was to update the app.yml discourse file (the plugin overrides the email template).

The problem with this, I believe, is that while plugins persist between upgrades I don't know / believe that the app.yml file does. Does anyone know if the app.yml file persists when you perform a version update? If it doesn't, are we suppose to put the template override location in the plugin.rb file?
