Greetings. Love Discourse, the team working on this is exceptional. We are new to styling a Discourse installation. Have spent time customizing the themes, but can’t seem to change the background color of the digest email? It remains blue #2F70AC , and seem unaffected by any them color changes. Can anyone give advice?
Many thanks,

Here, there is no space between the emoji code and the Russian word preceeding it.
Compare to English:

Looks like it’s not recognized after latin words either.
Is thins a bug or by design?

Is there a way to set the “From” name of email notifications for private messages to just remain something like “donotreply”?
I don’t have reply by emails functioning correctly, so I’ve disabled it for the time being. However, the fact that email notifications of PM’s come in with the “From” name of the person who sent it, rather than the system email’s assigned name, is confusing a large number of my users. They see the name, and believe they can still simply reply to the email.
Here’s a screenshot from google inbox - you can see that the email is listed as from “Keith” which is my username on the forum, rather than “donotreply” which is the actual name of the admin@ email address.
This appears to only be an issue on PM notifications.

GDPR that will be effective in EU by 28/5/2018 requires more careful handling of personal data. As I’ve analyzed needed changes in our software I’ve found following:
We need explicit consent by user to gather personal data (username, ip addresses) - I think that registration in forum can be taken as explicit consent
We need to handle them any personal data per request, so is there any convenient way to export the data we are collecting about the user? I mean are there any data not currently visible to the user in his profile? I can only think of IP addresses.
We need to delete the data per request - this could be easilly done be removing all post, removing user or anonymizing user.
Are you EU providers preparing for this new policy somehow?

After I reply to someone’s post, I’m not seeing the “reply-to-tab” that appears in the upper right corner of everyone else’s replies. Shouldn’t this be displayed to the author of the reply?
Here’s the most recent time I have noticed this phenomenon…

Is there a way to change the color of display names based on the selection within a custom user field? The field I would like to base that on is a dropdown, so the options would be standardized (e.g. option 1 = brown display name, option 2 = yellow display name etc).
I’ve already done it based off of a group - e.g. moderators are green.
I’m sure that this can be done in CSS, but I’m a bit stuck figuring out which class/span to adjust for the color based on a user field.

We are using the tips from Email notification footer with links for Reply Privately, Sender Profile, and User Profile on our installation to encourage users to reply by PM instead of publicly if only the sender is concerned.
However, sometimes the To: field of the PM is pre-filled with the wrong username, even though the one in the URL is correct.
It seems like composing PMs by URL reuses a previously unfinished PM instead of starting a clean new one. The
title
andbody
URL properties (silently) override the unfinished message’s values, butusername
doesn’t. (Which should be intended behaviour in my opinion).Steps to reproduce:
click on a link to compose a new PM by URL:
https://discourse.example.com/new-message?username=user1&title=Title1&body=Body1close the compose popup without sending the PM
click on another link to compose a PM to a different user:
https://discourse.example.com/new-message?username=user2&title=Title2&body=Body2Actual behaviour:
The compose popup opens, recipient still set to
user1
, but title and body updated to the “Title2” and “Body2” values from the URL.(Also, if on the second link one of the parameters
title
orbody
is not set, the old values from the previous message appear instead of the intended empty string.)Expected behaviour:
- The compose popup opens with
user2
as recipient. (Maybe also showing a warning that the previously unfinished message was discarded.)- If
title
orbody
are not set in the URL, those fields in the PM should be empty, too.

Hi,
I found the email template “confirm old email” which says that "Before we can change your email address, we need you to…"
How can I change any user email address? I cannot see any option in the profile, only the “show” option.

I recently encountered a problematic combination of features:
- Discourse sends e-mail notifications, and allows people to reply the thread by replying to the notification e-mail.
- Discourse allows people to edit postings right after posting them.
- Discourse does not re-send updated notifications when there’s an edit.
Unfortunately these features can cause a problematic interaction like this:
- User A posts something, immediately sees they forgot something and edits to add the missing thing.
- User B gets notification containing the original post, and replies by e-mail some hours later, condescendingly pointing out the missing thing.
- User A sees user B as having complained about something that was actually posted, and concludes that user B didn’t bother to read before replying.
Result: Thread derails in acrimony, civilized discussion ends.
I think if you’re going to allow people to reply by e-mail, you need to make a best effort at ensuring that the thread they see in their e-mail resembles the thread on the web as closely as possible in content — even if that means sending more than one notification message.
Either that, or web edit should be disabled when e-mail reply to notifications is enabled.

Hi,
is there a way to get the badges shown on the user popup sorted in a special way?
I noticed that the first shown badge in the popup is always the user trust level badge.
In our installation we do have a badge for a special group of users.
As the admin I would like to have for the members of this group the badge always shown as the second badge in the user popup when someone klicks on the user name in a thread.
Currently it is for some users visible as the second or third badge in the popup but quite often it is only visible by clicking on the More button.
First we had for this group a word in the user title but that is always visible next to the name in the thread and that created quite a discussion about different ranking of users …
The badge would be a good solution when it is possible to display it always in the user popup so that these users can be identified with just one click by other users especially by the admin/mod team.
Inside a thread it would no longer directly be visible that users do belong to different groups so all users would look identical in the thread. But we would still have the possibility to identify a users group very fast if needed.best regards
Guido

Is there something I’m missing?

That would help me a lot.

I read a guide on how to change servers, but is there an easier way to simply move the files LOCALLY? As in, just a different hard drive on the same server? Or even just the bigger, bloatier storage (like storing images and backups, etc)?

New Discourse user here just trying to get a basic site skeleton up. So far, almost everything has been smooth except for getting the comment-embedding/post-generating functionality to work.
I have my Discourse instance running on a Digital Ocean droplet, as per the setup instructions.
My discourse url is:
http://discuss.singlebagtravel.com
My static site is located at:http://singlebagtravel.com
I have added:
DISCOURSE_ENABLE_CORS: true
to theapp.yml
file and re-launched.I have set Settings > Security > cors origins to:
http://singlebagtravel.com
The console on my static site where I embed the comments shows this:
Failed to execute ‘postMessage’ on ‘DOMWindow’: The target origin provided (‘http://discuss.singlebagtravel.com’) does not match the recipient window’s origin (‘http://singlebagtravel.com’)
There are a number of similar posts that I found in the forums that have helped me get this far, but none of the solutions suggested in any of them have worked for me. I feel like I may be missing something obvious here, because it seems like it should work.
Thanks!
