I’ve seen this a couple of times but can’t figure out where to set this up. I looked at category settings and then under featured box but it doesn’t do anything. Or is this only possible with custom css?
Here and on try most buttons (e.g. Sign up/Log in, Create Topic etc.) have black text on the usual blue background. It is hard enough to read that I assume it to be an oversight of some recent change.
I’m keen to continue this discussion but I don’t want to hijack Trash’s interview.
I have passively hidden my gender online for years. I generally use my surname and an anonymous picture (of a Hawk). I don’t plan to change that any time soon and I don’t think I should have to. It should’t matter because it doesn’t change my ideas or how I express them.
@angus raises an interesting point though. If there are people that don’t join communities because of a misperception of gender imbalance then we need to change that perception so that we’re more inclusive.
How can we do that without expecting people to state their gender?
On my forum, there are some topics built around various links. For some users, this thing is obvious, just paste the link to the topic title box, and the result works great, e.g.:
However, the problem is when users doens’t know/care about this feature, and paste the url into the composer, not into the title.
And hence is my question: me, as a moderator/admin, how can i switch a regular topic to an url topic?
Side quest: there is a way to automatically add a tag to topic-links or at least search only on these topics?
Thanks!
(i have no idea how this feature is called though)
Hi, I think it would be nice if the interface language selector had more than the two letter shorthand. But, in each language, the name of each language. “Español”, “Le français”, etc.

I recently created a new category and moving existing topics to that category will bump them to the first page (since they have the last activity changed). The problem is that there are discussion started (and concluded) few years ago, and bumping them doesn’t provide any value.
I know that i can change the date, but I have around 100 topics and editing every single one is a tedious job…
Besides that, changing category isn’t a really an „activity” that is interesting for an user, no?
With the new composer rolled into tests-passed I was just looking at colour schemes and found that selecting the light theme exhibits some strange behaviour:
Customize > Themes > New
By default the scheme appears as:
If I select the dark theme it appears as:
And if I select the light scheme again:
Prior to rebuilding I was seeing a similar problem with Customize > Colors, where I could create new schemes based on dark, but if I tried to clone the light scheme the +New button was active, but did nothing.
When posting a large amount of text, the composer preview scroll stops syncing with the editor. Once the preview is filled to the point of needing a scrollbar, the text being typed ends up below off the screen.
My main website is connected to my discourse application with SSO activated. Evrything work fine but the avatar syncing between website discourse.
I read all the thread about this and didn’t find any solution. I have configured “sso overrides avatar” and set avatar_force_update to true.
Here is the weired thing. First of all both my website and discourse are public with public ip / DNS etc not on localhost dev.
When the avatar url is hosted on any other website then mine then the avatar is uploaded / synced without any problem. So my integration code (SSO) is working.
When the avatar url is sent from my own website even if it is the same image that worked just before on another host then the sync just don’t work and the avatar don’t change.
So i think there is something special with my host (Nginx). Maybe the nginx gzip http reponse or something else ? I spend already 4 days trying to find an explanation without success and without any error message in avatar logs with sso logs activated that’s why i am here now.
I use a fork of the material stock theme with my custom styling edit going into the forked version and then using the Github remote URL for pulling and using the theme.
I’ve not been successful in adding the embedding code to the theme source control. So I ended up adding it to admin/customize/themes/ -> Edit CSS/HTML->Embedded CSS
I have an attachment that has been moved to tombstone, but rake uploads:recover_from_tombstone isn’t moving it back (it seems that inline images got moved back as expected). Stranger still, if I move or copy it by hand, I still get a 404 from Rails.
On my server, I use a proxy server on IIS 10 (IP: 10.1.1.51). “Url rewrite” was used to proxy traffic. I have directed to the virtual machine with Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS with the installed Discourse which is located on the address 10.1.1.62.The problem is that Discourse does not work correctly when IIS is proxied traffic. Sometimes the http protocol does not work, sometimes https (500 error in Discourse)
Preview does not work. When you create a new topic, it will not be displayed. Works only with local IP. In the console, this error occurs. web.config (4 KB)
