Locking Posts (preventing users from undoing staff edits)

@eviltrout wrote:

As of this commit Discourse staff members now have the ability to lock posts.

Locking a post prevents its author from editing it. Why would you want to do this? Sometimes a user posts something bad, so a staff member will go in and change it. Before this commit, there was no way to prevent a user from maliciously changing it back.

To lock a post, click the wrench under it and select “Lock Post”

image

When locked, a lock icon will be displayed on top of the post and the poster will not be able to edit it until it is unlocked.

Other Notes:

  • There is a new site setting staff edit locks post - if enabled then any time a staff member edits a non-staff user’s post it will lock it. This is meant for large forums where having each staff member lock every post after editing it would be tedious.

  • The lock icon is only visible to staff members and the creator of the post.

  • Staff members can always edit posts, even if they are locked.

Give it a whirl and let me know what you think!

I was hoping somebody can point me to where I can set my endpoint to retrieve via API callout users email addresses associate with my organizations specific community.

I can hit the end point of active users, new users and others; however, the associated email does not return for any other user other than my account.

Thank you.

[PAID] Plugin developer (long term, pay: $$$$)

@DiscourseMetrics.com wrote:

What would you like done?

I’m looking for semi-experienced or experienced Discourse developers to extend the functionality of a profitable Discourse forum.

This is an opportunity for ongoing work building and expanding Discourse plugins for my growing community.

I’m already using some great devs but want to expand the team to get things done even faster.

When do you need it done?

Ongoing, but flexible on deadlines/milestones

What is your budget, in $ USD that you can offer for this task?

Per project pricing, fair pay for good work

What to expect?
I’m a UX designer, and working with me would involve first discussing my mockups and well written functionality specifications, and then implementing them as plugins. After releasing first versions of functionality, we would work together to build and release improvements driven by community input.

I think I’m pretty easy and flexible to work with and for :wink:

Cheers!

Feature request: add ability to filter admin user list by any group

Continuing the discussion from Admin users list view:

when I came across this I was hopeful that I could use e.g. [site]/admin/users/list/ANYGROUPNAME to filter the list to see only users in the group. In actual fact it appears to only work for automatic groups like trust level, moderators, etc. It would be nice to be able to also filter by custom groups.

One way to add this to the UI may be to simply make it possible to also type the group name into the filter box and have it filter by group - both on the admin and on the frontend user list pages.

I know it’s possible to just look at the groups page but that doesn’t include all the handy info about read time, likes and such which I’m looking for on the groups level.

Minimum participation requirement as a prerequisite to join a forum- feasible?

@ckshen wrote:

I run a dining forum, which is split by major metropolitan areas in the US. I am entertaining the idea of turning my local board from a public forum into a closed forum where participants can join only if they commit to a minimum participation requirement.

Current dynamics:
In our local forum, there are a handful off active posters who post about their eating out experience, with me being the most active. There are many more lurkers, and semi-lurkers. As a result, it makes for a relatively quiet forum where we get a few reports of restaurants a week, half of them is mine.

There are two other very similar forums. One of them is quieter. The other is about the same. The quieter one and our forum are spinoffs from the one with similar level of activities as us due to members’ UX dissatisfaction.

Arguably we aren’t at critical mass. We have been around for 2 years, and I think we are shrinking rather than growing. We’ve tried many tricks to grow the community already. But by nature the community of knowledgeable diners are small.

Question:
What do people think of the idea turning my local forum from a public forum into a closed forum where participants can join only if they commit to a minimum participation requirement is enforced (with some latitude of course- people get busy), and perhaps require a token low membership fee like $5 / year so people have to invest something into the forum.

I personally am not getting much out of the forum since i did a lot of the original content, and I don’t see my interest level in writing these content to hold for much longer if there is not enough interest to reciprocate. The logic for my idea is that even if we have 10 people committed to posting for each other, its better than 3 committed people posting for 100. Writing a personal blog (which I won’t do) seems to be more appealing than even the current scenario. If we let the forum to slowly die off or shut the forum down, the other two forums won’t make critical mass either.

Thoughts? Feedback?

When wikis are edited, they should be bumped

I believe when wikis get a non-trivial edit (X # of characters?), they should be bumped. Otherwise, the change is not evident to other participants. If it is a working document, it keeps drifting down the list of topics.

As always, I welcome the candid feedback.

Most input boxes have different heights and widths. It is not very nice to see.

In the image below it is not clear how the voices were divided. “Only return topics/posts” seems to be part of the list instead of being the title of a new section.
It is difficult to understand why three items are with a check box and others are in a dropdown menu.
Not all the items in that menu are mutually exclusive.
E.g., I cannot automatically search a topic that I read, I liked, is a wiki and include images. The only thing that I can do is a search adding the options manually.

An account could not be registered with the email address . Please contact the site’s administrator.

On google I found that I must disable email verification on wordpress (How to turn off Discourse email verification?).

So I modified discourse-sso.php in my wordpress site as
$require_activation = apply_filters( ‘discourse_email_verification’, $require_activation, $user_id );
to
$require_activation = apply_filters( ‘discourse_email_verification’, false, $user_id );

but with no luck
Can anyone tell me how can I overcome this problem

When I imported from phpBB, some quotes were not being handled correctly, as discussed here.

How can I fix them after the fact?

They currently look like this:

[quote]some text
[/quote]

and like this:

[quote=“John Doe”]some text
John[/quote]

The quote tags need to be on a new line.

I looked at this, but couldn’t figure out if it could be applied:

Anonymize user - blank response from API on attempt?

@Frank_Bailey wrote:

Hi folks, I’m trying to hit the endpoint to anonymize a user in Discourse; I’ve got single sign-on between WordPress and Discourse set up, and when the user deletes their account on WordPress I want to anonymize them in Discourse. The endpoint is

/admin/users/{id}/anonymize:
put:
  description: |
    Anonymize a user
  tags:
    - Admin
  parameters:
    - name: id
      in: path
      required: true
      type: integer
  responses:
    '200':
      description: succesfully anonymized user
      schema:
        type: object
        properties:
          success:
            type: string
          username:
type: "string"

When I hit that endpoint with a PUT and a valid user ID, API key and username etc., I get no response. Blank page. I’m guessing I should definitely get some kind of response, so has this endpoint perhaps been removed or renamed in some way?

Activating admin account from console

@gpritiranjan wrote:

I am trying to setup Discourse with one-click installer using droplet over Digital Ocean. I followed all the instructions and have correctly configured the SMTP details. But when I register for the admin account using the front-end installer, I am not able to receive the email.

I read a tutorial where it is mentioned that if the email doesn’t land in the mailbox, I can still activate the account and set the user as admin using the following commands using the console:

cd /var/discourse
sudo ./launcher enter app
rails c
user = User.find_by_email("<admin_email>")
user.admin = true
user.approved = true
user.save
EmailToken.confirm(user.email_tokens.first.token)

I am able to run the commands up to the fourth line. After running the fourth command, it finds and displays the user details. But I am not able to enter the next command. There’s this colon “:” and when I reach the end of the displayed details, “(END)” is written. I can’t type and run the further commands to activate the user.

After rails c, there’s this [1] pry (main) > thing. I am not so much acquainted with the command line. Please help me out.

Suggestion : Topic History Modal

@RobMeade wrote:

Hi,

Sometimes I need to Hide Revision on lengthy topics, as such, I have to scroll to the bottom of the post within the History modal in order to click the button, if a slight tweak was made to this modal, I wouldn’t need to.

Instead of doing this;

Could we have this?

You’ll note that the footer of the modal which contains the buttons is separate from the scroll bar, as per the header of the modal which contains the Close button and the heading;

This would still allow for reviewing of the entire topic where necessary but also provide the ability for quick action by having the buttons visible without scrolling.

Thanks in advance :slight_smile:
