Continuing the discussion from Auto-hide persistent fixed header on scroll:

I couldn't find another topic for this issue, and its currently one things that is making me hesitate to update our discourse instance to latest. Reading on mobile is currently a bit of a PITA compared to how it worked a few weeks ago or so (we are on 807bfbd at the moment where things still look 'normal')

Proposal: clicking on @user in a post content should open info box

currently when you click on a user in a post it redirect to the user profile page.

for example if you click on @lid (it will take you to the user page) but if you click on a user name or avatar in the post header you will get a nice info box which you can decide to go to that user profile.

the good:
- Allow you to see who is the user without breaking the reading flow. you are not getting redirected to another page.
- it is nice

the bad:
-didn't think of one yet

here is how I think it should be:

Changing ownership of posts

Dan Porter wrote:

I've only discovered this feature today, and there are a few small bugs that arise from it's use.

  • When selecting multiple posts in a topic, and changing ownership, only the last one changes visually. A page refresh is required to see the changes apply to other posts.
  • Posts that have changed from userA to userB still appear on userA's profile page under the 'posts' section. Topics that have changed ownership do not exhibit this behaviour.

New user question about behaviour of back after reading a topic

I just joined up to read more about discourse. I have run into something that puzzles me. When I am showing the Latest topics and I click on one to read, when I click on the back button Discourse takes me to Top instead of back to Latest. When I read a form such as this my normal way of working is to default to showing the latest posts and then read the ones I want always going back to the latest list between each topic. I checked the preferences and do not see a way to control that. I view Top as interesting and I might explore it at some point but really I want to keep up on what is new.

Am I missing something obvious about how to control this or how going to Top is a good thing?

Other than the related "suggested topics" shortened stats on the bottom, seems like we can see nice stats on some topics, but not all of them. What happens there? Why some topics show no stats?

I'd guess it's related to the number of posts in there, but I'd still like to see the view count and activity even if there is no extra posts. Right now, here's another example (other than this very topic):

And here's one with the stats:

I have several users on my forum that are getting this error when trying to create a new topic "Sorry, you don't have access to that topic!"

I've checked the security setting in every category to be sure that they are all set right. I've impersonated a user getting this error and get it half the time. What's the solution!!

"Green" Error message when creating category

Austin Hamilton wrote:

Two things to this bug!

1) I tried to create a category today and set it to accept emails from non-users. When I tried to enter the custom email address, I got a green error message. I think this error message probably wants to be red, not green?

2) I used the same email when setting it up as a previously defined category. It's probably this that caused the actual bug. I don't know if that's intended functionality, or if we want to allow an admin to have two email topics with the same email in address to post to both simultaneously, but that's of course up to you Discourse Developers!

Thanks again! If you need more information, let me know. Docker Install, version 0.9.9.11

I think it would be helpful if maybe the trophy and magic wand glyphs linked to the group pages for moderators and admins. Sometimes new users want to know "who's in charge" and it would be nice if they could see a list of the higher-ups.

Alternatively, the moderators and admins groups could be listed along with your created, non-standard groups.

Clarifying the flag requirement for trust level 3

Jeff Atwood wrote:

(Hoping this is the right place...)

Since Level 3 auto-promotion has been rolled out...

I have three questions regarding this specifically.

From  The Official "Likes" Thread over on TDWTF (since we already have one auto-leader and are about to get a whole load more over the next week or so.) The meat of this is my understanding of what does/will happen with respect to level 2&3 pro/demotion and flags:

  • I hope it's correct - can anyone confirm? (My main clarification revolves around requiring 5 unique users for the 5 posts, do different posts require different users, requiring at least 25 distinct users flagging the 5 posts, not the 5 in the scenario above.)
  • Can someone help with this next bit?
  • Finally, does 2 confirmed spam flags and 3 objectionable flags on the same post (by 5 unique users) count as the 5 requisite flags?

Twitter sign-in broken after switch to subdomain

Eddie Cameron wrote:

I just moved a discourse install from domain.com to forum.domain.com, and all seems fine except for twitter login. I've changed the twitter url to forum.domain.com, and the callback to forum.domain.com/auth/twitter/callback, but when trying to log in, I get a "Sorry, there was an error authorizing your Twitter account. Perhaps you did not approve authorization?"

Here's what I did to switch to the subdomain, from here

  • changed DISCOURSE_HOSTNAME to forum.domain.com
  • changed exposed port from 80:80 to 8080:80
  • use nginx to forward all requests to forum.domain.com to domain.com:8080
  • use nginx to forward all requests to domain.com/t & domain.com/uploads to forum.domain.com....
  • use docker launcher w/ 'rebuild app'

My first guess is that the oauth is failing when the callback url is different from the url it's actually called on (domain.com:8080), but when I change the callback url to domain.com:8080 it still throws the error.
Any clues, or more info I can provide?

Cheers

Category selection drop-down out of order

Michael Downey wrote:

When creating a new topic (or editing a topic title) shouldn't the order of categories drop-down field match the order in /categories? And shouldn't sub-categories be listed under their parent?

If so, this isn't working. The categories in the drop-down next to title seem to appear in some type of random order. Subcategories are also in "random" order as well, so it's not clear that they're related to a parent.

Discourse single-sign-on integration with SharePoint

Ali Alidina wrote:

Discourse was presented to us yesterday as a discussion forum solution for our web redevelopment project. Our website is to be built on MS SharePoint 2013. One of our biggest concerns is being able to setup single-sign-on for our users to be able to access both the website and discourse with the same user name and password. Before I get a developer to implement, I was hoping to a) determine if the API would allow us integrate the single-sign-on with SharePoint 2013; and b) if it has already done by someone else,I would like to connect with them to see how they did it and their experience.

Thank you.

htop shows that these processes all spawn from an instance of /sbin/runit which itself is parented to init, not to /usr/bin/docker like I'd figure.

htop describes the madness thusly:

If I scroll a few more lines down, then htop segfaults, which is terrifying.

Please, what is happening to my server? This is on a normal docker install with a fresh container rebuild to latest.

@zogstrip
I believe that this commit is already deployed on meta
I have tested it on android/chrome, and it is impossible to select a category.

the original bug report topic is locked so I could not update it there.

replication instruction:
click create topic button
new topic form will show
topic title will be in focus ( no keyboard yet)
click the category drop-down

The keyboard will open and the topic subject will have the focus. Dropdown will close immediately.
you can try tap the category dropdown again it will not stay open,

If I do not enable cookies for a Discourse site, I get nearly blank white pages. No content, no error messages, no clues that I need to enable cookies. Just the site logo.

I only want anonymous access, no authentication required. Requiring cookies is a barrier to reading.

I scroll with the space bar because I don't want RSI, it's faster, more convenient, etc. If I am currently reading near the bottom of the currently loaded chunk of content, I don't get a full page scroll. The space bar page down action stops at the bottom of the current content, then the next chunk is loaded.

After scrolling I have to guess how far down the screen I need to look to see the next page of content.
